How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
As long existing garage structurally sounds OK, it is suitable for conversion. Plus, check with your local council if any planning permission required

Check if planning permission needed or not. If all ok, when move to building control stage.
The building control required structural design details to be provided with your application.
So, structure needs to be checked and new designed. The structural engineer can check and design for you.
Once design is approved by the building control the construction of the new loft can begin. The building control will check construction process at different stages, making sure that all things are in order and within building regulation standards.
