If you want something really out of the ordinary visit Dalhousie castle! Celebrating my 50th birthday me and my husband booked a weekend at the castle not knowing more than what the webb page showed and hoped for the best. And we had one of the best weekends ever. The magical settings, a perfect room, the generosity and freedom to use the whole castle and common areas, like the library, the spa, the orangeri - just amazing. Afternoon tea and dinner were outstanding! If you visit...do not miss out on the chance taking a long and adventurous walk in the surroundings following the river, the nature is breathtaking. An amazing venue with great staff. We had a short stay over the weekend to attend a wedding at a nearby castle. We certainly felt we had chosen the better castle to stay in. Staff were so friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us - looking for us to tell us our room was ready when we arrived early for check-in, and helping us make the best use of the spa facilities. On our departure day, we took the opportunity to relax in the library and were pleasantly surprised when a false bookcase opened up to reveal a treasure trove of fine Scotch whiskey together with a knowledgeable barman! We would love to return for a longer stay to explore the castle more. More...

What an amazing castle with fantastic staff let down by a couple, I wasn’t disappointed with our venue along with our 14 guest including me all there to celebrate my 60th birthday. ||First night we dined in the dungeon but unfortunately the menu was reduced as there was more than 10 of us not sure why but a great time had and a loverly meal although there wasn’t a starter on the restricted menu I liked so I went without.||Breakfast on the morning of my birthday.||The waitress who appeared to be in charge a Spanish sounding lady in the orangey was not accommodating, I wished to sit at a table for 4 to sit with my sister who I haven’t seen her for a while but because she wasn’t at breakfast yet we were ushered to a table for two, when my sister arrived she insisted sitting with us at breakfast to the annoyance of the said staff member. Others from our party arrived at breakfast with cards and presents, I opened the cards and approach the lady who appeared to be in charge and asked if there was a bin I could put the envelopes in, she looked at me with a rye smile then looked at her bin and replied “bin to small” and shrugged her shoulders, how accommodating I should have just left them on the table but I didn’t. ||That day we had a 16 seaters taxi provided and driven by Steven Pickering who took us into Edinburgh dropping us off at the castle and picking up at the station. Christmas market was on well worth a visit, a very good taxi service to use and at a fantastic price too, S&M Pickering.||That evening we dined in the orangey, again the menu was reduced and the main menu was still on display showing a larger menu than what we were offered, again I found that a bit bizarre.||Third day we drove to Rosslyn Chapel well worth it, The Da Vinci Code has ties with lots of interesting facts and about the place. ||That night we did go into Bonnyrigg to eat, local taxi there and back not to expensive, got back to the castle for a nightcap around 9 o’clock on the 29th November, 6 of us walked into the library and sat down, the waiter saw us and walked out I assumed he was serving someone else as two couples were in there too. He came and went another two times eventually I walked into the bar area not wanting to disturb him to much as there was a lot of cluttering only to discover he was loading the dish washer that obviously had more of a priority than us. ||Meanwhile another couple who came in after us left after 20 minutes without being served, we eventually had a drink in front of us 40 minutes in and he wasn’t serving anyone else at the time, very poor indeed. Everything was pleasing to the eye everywhere I looked. The beds were decent though they could use some mattress toppers. Shower water went wildly from hot to cold with the knobs doing next to nothing to control it . Lunch and dinner are spectacular, breakfast could use some improvement such as a potato option. Also if you are going to French press coffee you need a larger coffee ground, you cannot just press preground drip coffee or else you get all the sludge I saw in my cup. Falconry was amazing, staff were super attentive and always helpful. I would recommend this place for a nice weekend visit. More...

Myself and my husband were married here 17 years ago and it was truly an unreal experience. We’ve always wanted to come back and stay but we have a son now so it’s always been hard work trying to get. So last weekend we were off to Edinburgh xmas markets, we checked availability and the honeymoon suite was available (apparently there are 2 now though) So after requesting the dungeon one, got a lovely email saying we had been allocated that particular room. We arrived at 3:00pm to check in, very friendly staff and they welcomed us back after reading the emails attached to our reservation. Once in our room there was a knock on the door and we were handed a lovely hand written card and some hand made chocolates, such a thoughtful touch. We had a few drinks in the comfortable library bar, wasn’t particularly busy so it was relaxing. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The castle is a little dated in parts but that adds to the quirky character and the fact that it’s a 13th century building (I think) all in all we recommend to anyone. Thanks again! Hopefully we’ll return soon. Jo & Lee More...

This was an amazing experience. One that should be done at least once in a lifetime. The rooms and the whole venue are a part of living history. You can really put you self into any part of the castles history and still be amazed. The staff was very friendly and the whole experience is something I would very much like to do again. The Dungeon Restaurants was a bit pricey for the portion sizes. The food presentation was clever and artistic and very astatically pleasing. Some of the menu Item did seem a bit rich.
