We thought our stay at the Crown and Thistle was excellent. our room was clean and well supplied with anything we could wish for, the bed was very comfortable, and we were cool in the day and evening (AC) and comfortable temperature at night (AC switched off)
The pub was a great place to eat and drink - we were in a large group, and the bar stayed open late, and we really enjoyed sitting outside in the warm wether.
Good parking and well organised outside of the pub, including an old cannon and nice plants and flowers.
Breakfast was excellent, with a very wide choice - far more than in similar establishments - I had the full English, but wished I'd had the avocado - it looked very good. We had 10/10 service from Julia, who was patient and helpful with the children, and packed up food for us to take away. We would recommend the hotel just for her wonderful service - it's lovely to be able to take children away and the people helping go out of their way to help.
Very well situated - an easy walk down to the river. Other reviews online commented that there was noise form the road, but we were on the main road (room 16) and we didn't notice any noise at all.
A great place to stay if you like going to interesting places of historic interest - much of the building dates from 1605. Oh - and it's easy to park in the large car park.

Great pub! Was very impressed by wide variety of foods on the menu.. they really cater for everyone! Visited on Saturday the 9th for dinner and the waitress who was on that night was amazing, very friendly and attentive. Thanks for a lovely night

A friend and I had a very good one night stay while walking the Thames Path. The hotel is very convenient for the Path - lovely after a long day’s walk. The room was very comfortable, with plentiful tea/coffee supplies, complimentary mineral water, good bed linen and an excellent bathroom - with a greatly appreciated bath! We ate in the hotel restaurant. Excellent whitebait, slightly underwhelming pizza. Breakfast is one of the real stars of the show at this hotel, with a fabulous varied menu to choose from and a lovely waitress.. All in all, we were glad that we chose the Crown & Thistle. More...

The room was lovely and the restaurant was excellent.
The pub was not really in keeping with these, there was a big TV and noisy crowds, so we didn't have a relaxing drink after our meal as anticipated.
Disappointingly, despite booking a King Sized room we were given a standard room. There was no apology given for this.

Staff were friendly and the food was good. But no hot water in the room even after running for a several minutes. The shears over the window in the bathroom rather than proper curtains made going to the bath an adventure.

A wonderful breakfast with lovely staff.
If you enjoy the full English breakfast this is a must having said that the other breakfasts looked equally good and the people I was with certainly enjoyed them.
This goes to show what good ingredients (decent sausages, fresh eggs, fresh tomatoes etc) and careful preparation can do. Enhance that with good presentation and friendly service and you have a winner.

Had a lovely time at this hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and the atmosphere was really nice. The only quibbles I had were that we could not get the room warm enough and gave our friends said their room was lovely (room 1). We went to breakfast at 10.00 and had fabulous service but unfortunately the food was only lukewarm, having said that we had a fantastic meal the evening before. We will definitely look to book again particularly as we have relatives in Abingdon and the hotel is central. All in all a great hotel. More...

Lovely vaulted ceiling function room with adjoining bar. The main bar itself has nice comfy chairs and a fireplace. Outside there's loads of room so I expect to come back when it's warm outside.

Comfortable. Good food and service in the attached pub/bar. (We have a Spaniel.) Room service available at breakfast.
Friendly helpful service in the hotel.
Decor could be updated.

I'm sure lots of people say this. But you can not fault this hotel at all. The hotel, staff, food and room were excellent.
The manager and staff could do enough to make your stay the best ever.
