I hired COULLarchitecture to design a side return extension for my house which is a Victorian terrace in a conservation area. I am pleased with the outcome as we got planning permission. Charles was the only architect I interviewed who took the time to find out how we used the space in our home before going on to discuss the design. I asked Charles to make various revisions to the design along the way as I changed my mind about what I wanted and he was always happy to do this. He is a very hard working architect, very pleasant to deal with and very experienced. He is a good communicator and always answers his phone when you call him or calls you back the same day if he is busy. He is very client led; he never exerted pressure on me to do anything I was not keen on but was forthcoming with ideas when asked. He did a great design at a reasonable price and in a reasonable time frame. I would highly recommend him. More...

What do you love most about your job?
Each and every project brings different challenges and opportunities that need to be worked through in order to be successful. These define the potential of a project and the need to view each with fresh eyes provides energy and enthusiasm which is realised when seeing their completion.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Having wanted to be an architect from a young age, staring my own studio was part of the natural progression of my studies and working life. It has allowed me to found a company on the issues that I believe are important in architecture today; environment and sustainability, social responsibility, quality of design irrespective of budget and the focus of the business of architecture as a service to the client and local community.
