Have been training with the academy since 2017. Great coach who gives all students a lot of attention, explains everything and breaks it down really well, so it's easy to pick it up and progress. Plenty of classes, so more than enough options. All the students are very friendly so you feel part of the academy straight away...

Have to say thank you too the amazing Ivam and all the wonderful students at Ivammaciel academy for teaching my son Kieran. Started training in this academy 6 years ago through recommendation by a friend. Ivam taught me the fundamentals which have stuck with me until now at purple belt. Ivam is friendly but also rigorous and is able to get the best out of you. He was also able to direct me to competent academies in London when I had to move away. I have been training with Ivam Maciel since before 2010, we become team-mates at ZT Fight Skool. Ivam was instrumental in helping me with my grappling techniques for MMA, which led to me being undefeated 8-0 Professional MMA. I always wanted to try this sport so I have tried a few academies in the area but some where just too large to get good technique others simply had odd atmosphere and I didn't like their attitude towards newbies like myself. I'm glad I found Ivam's BJJ gym, this place is cozy, classes aren't too crowded which I like as I get special attention to details from the coach or from his assistant instructors on daily basis. I have been training with Ivam Maciel for over a year now and I'd like to share a story which demonstrates how this training has had a life-changing effect on my confidence and assertiveness. Recently, I saw a man harassing a woman in the streets, she was trying to get away from him and crying, but he was holding onto her and not letting her go. Normally, I would not have had the confidence to do anything, I may have asked someone for help but not have done anything myself. But with the knowledge and mindset Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has taught me it gave me the inner-confidence to step in. I went up to them, put myself in between the two and put my hands on the mans shoulder and told him to stop. The whole thing was resolved shortly after that. I didn't fight him, it didn't get that far. But Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Ivam Maciels training had inspired confidence and courage in me. Excellent gym. Incredible coach and fantastic team all training together.
I had tried bjj for a few weeks at another gym but never really got going as it all felt slow paced. I gave it another go at Ivam's gym and have just finished my first week. I am totally hooked. Great teaching in a clear broken down method with the full team helping you through the steps as you learn what feels like a new language. Learning a martial art for first time was important but so too was finding something fun that could help me lose weight. After my first week I already feel better and have dropped 2kg. Sparring is available from the get go and can be as competitive as you choose it to be with a wide range of men and women with varying abilities and experience. I've never done BJJ or any martial art for that matter, so I was pretty nervous before going to my first class. I didn't have to worry as the place is full of great guys/gals, all super friendly and a pleasure to roll with. More importantly though, Ivam is a great coach, giving his structured lessons in a clear and concise way. His ability to break things down for you to understand makes coming to class something to look forward to.
Prepare to get fit, meet new people and learn a skill that will give you confidence and teach you self defense. My only regret is not starting sooner! More...

I have been training with Ivam Maciel for a few years, he is an excellent coach, very technical and of good character.
Ivam has done a great job developing his students. I have personally seen people arrive at his academy as weak white belts, and been transformed into tough blue, purple and brown belts.
I am a 3rd degree black belt, and as often as I can I make the 2 hour journey from Bournemouth to Brighton. Every visit I learn something new from Ivam. Much respect! More...
