What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Capturing the essence of the subject- be it a furry friend or a artistic headshot, I want to capture the true likeness and character of the subject I am photographing.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What do you want to show in the photo? This is the biggest question to ask- I am led by the client and what they would like, and my interpretation of their vision is mandatory. If the client is unsure of what they want, we can discuss this and I can come up with suggestions that we can make happen.
With animal/pet photography, the main question to ask is what motivates their furry/woolly/feathered friend? Is it a rustling piece of cellophane or ham? These things allow me to gain the interest of the pet and get those interesting shots needed to show the character of the animal being photographed.
What do you love most about your job?
The variety of the jobs taken on- there is never a dull moment and two jobs are never the same!
What inspired you to start your own business?
A passion for photography and animals, after 24 years teaching I wanted to do something for myself. I had been doing some at the same time as teaching but thought now is the time to start really start building the business, rather than it being an add-on side hustle project.
