Do not use this Company ! We paid this company to come out and assess a damp/mould issue in January last year. George the owner came out and assessed the house and told us it was penetrating damp and guaranteed the works he proposed would fix the issue. We paid a great deal of money for what seemed to only be a couple hours work painting the side of the house with a damp treatment. George then gave us a written guarantee and said the damp would disappear within 3 months once the walls had time to fully dry out. Summer came along and eventually it seemed to had gone however as soon as October came and the weather turned the damp on the walls had returned even worse! We contacted George multiple times with no luck. His website had disappeared and there were multiple bad reviews. Eventually I found a number for him and we agreed a date and time for him to come out to assess it. The time comes and he doesn't show up after days of trying to get hold of him he arranged another date with me and again I took time off work unpaid to see him and again he doesn't show up. Days pass again and eventually he then says he'll come out again. He eventually turns up an hour late and gives me a million rubbish reasons. He says we are covered under his guarantee and that he will come back free of charge to carry out the repairs needed. He promised it would be done by Christmas as the damp is bad. He doesn't show up or contact me again! Eventually he texts to say he will come during the Christmas week and again he doesn't show up! He then texts to say he's not coming until the warmer weather comes so he can do some repointing and that it's a condensation issue and I need to speak to somebody else to sort that. So not only is this guy a complete liar and his company a scam but he has robbed us of thousands of pounds. He came to my house and did not correctly identify the issue he then sold me the completely wrong solution and cost me a huge amount of money and now doesn't care even after I've given him multiple chances to fix this. Hi Elliot, we have offered to come back and fix the small repointing issue that could cause future problems with penetrating damp. This is the problem you originally had which has been rectified. There are no damp patches on the external wall that was treated which falls under the guarentee. As explained, you have a condensation issue that is causing mould to stick to furniture. This is not something that falls under the guarentee of the penetrating damp treatment that was successfully installed and rectified the original issue. We also offered to reseal your windows to help you, which is not a service we provide and the windows are not covered by our guarentee as we never carried out work on them. We advised you to contact the window fitter as these have been incorrectly fitted and is causing excess condensation in the bedroom especially. We also advised you on lifestyle changes you could make to solve the condensation issue, I. E. Ensure clothes are fully dry before storing under ottoman bed, leave windows ajar when possible to allow for better air circulation. Following on from my review left on 14/09/23 - I had chased up CGS for a final time on 27/09/23 to try and resolve matters before escalation. George & Heather have now promised to rectify the works and will now work together to ensure the cellar is finished to a high standard.

George explained that he has been through issues relating to his personal life in these last few months which has unfortunately impacted the business but has promised that CGS will make all efforts to rectify all issues pertaining to my cellar.

Although I have been extremely frustrated these last few months I am now feeling slightly more confident after thorough discussions with George that the works will be rectified.

I am happy to give CGS another chance to make do their wrongs and appreciate it has been a tough time for them recently.

I will provide an update once works have been completed in the coming weeks.

Cellar Conversion: £10,000 paid in full

To begin with George and Heather were very professional and communicative in the early stages and was very descriptive in what they were going to carry out. Measures were taken pretty sharply and discussions were made promptly to get the ball rolling. Contract was signed and works to be carried out confirmed. Regular calls were made by George to ensure that works were to proceed even up to 10:30pm.

This all took a turn once George started working on the property. Numerous items from the spec was either missed out or changed on the day and as the property was vacant he done as he wished. I made frequent visits and was informed by George’s team the reasons for the change in spec and foolishly complied as they gave reasonings behind which you wouldn’t question as they were “the professionals”.

The work was due to take over 2 weeks to complete (1 week to allow slurry to dry and 1 week to install the boards and flooring etc). The work was actually complete within a week. The finish looked great so all payments were made and was promised receipts to confirm materials used, guarantees for work and certification within 3 days.

After 4 days the floor started to crack and peel so contacted George to advise him of the issues and was promised a quick repair. It took over a month for George to come after endless calls and messages to which he either ignored or promised dates and never arrived. During this time the walls were getting damp and George advised this was due to the floor. The walls were increasingly becoming more and more damp and mould also started to form. George yet again promised to repair this and is still yet to come (its now been 2 months since he first completed the cellar).

George is now failing to answer calls and has switched off his phone. I have sent emails and texts and have had no response. No response from Heather either.

Instead of tanking slurry standard DPM was used. Insulated plasterboard promised but standard plasterboard used. No DPM on floors which caused the cracks and flaking. Timber framed walls also promised but not used. All in all he changed the entire spec daily and now left with a shit show of a cellar.

I wouldn’t recommend this cowboy company to anyone. Constantly lying and no longer communicating because why would they now that they’ve been paid. I have been very patient throughout this process but CGS has quite frankly taken the piss. I made it clear this property is being let out so not only has this cost me £10,000 but also loss of rent and numerous hours contacting the company.

I am now looking at other avenues to recover this money. More...

Cannot recommend George + Heather + team enough. From start to finish the communication was clear and consistent with extremely competitive quotes.

Especially as a young woman living on my own I was worried that companies would try to take advantage and unfortunately some tried too. However, this was not the case with CGS. George explained which products he would be using and why, as well different products available on the market. He did this so I could compare all the quotes I received equally. There was no hard sell or pressure. You can really tell this is a family run company who care about customers/potential customers. Any questions I had were explained clearly with no issue.

I had a minor issue and CGS went over and above to fix the issue. This some of the best customer service I have ever had and really shows the values of the company. It's easy for a company to give good customer service when things go right but a fantastic company to give the level of customer service I received when there was an issue.

If you are looking for anything in regards to damp, damp proofing and mould these are the people contact. I only had half my house done and plan to rebook when the other rooms need doing. Again 10/10 quality company with 5* service. More...
