I sought out Barbara when I started experiencing pain in my lower back - she was extremely quick to respond, and the whole experience was nothing short of incredible. Before we started, she took time to get to know me, and suggested myofascial release and some "trigger work". I walked into Brighton Wellbeing hobbled over in pain and after 90 minutes practically floated out on a cloud. I'm also pleased to report that the pain has almost all gone (after a day and a half). I can't recommend Barbara enough - I can't wait for my next treatment! More...

You are in safe hands with Barbara; she is thorough; very professional, intuitive and incredibly strong! I told her my problem areas which are my neck muscles and bottom & leg due to sciatica, and she did one of the best massages I've ever had. She used deep tissue massage with hot stones and pressure points to relieve the inflamed areas. I felt things easing as she worked. I was in a beautiful relaxed calm state when she finished! It was wonderful! Two days later and the sciatica is so much better, & I can turn my head with greater ease. I will definitely go back to her for top ups and I can't recommend her enough! More...

For many years I have suffered from chronic pain in my upper back, shoulders and hips I was visiting Brighton for a month and sought treatment. I was extremely fortunate to come across Brighton Wellbeing and after an initial consultation with Barbara I went on to have reflexology and body massages. Barbara took time to understand the root of the issues and worked on the whole boast as well as focusing on the problem areas. Following each treatment I left the practice energized and was able to get the best sleep I have experienced in many years. Sadly I have to leave to head back home to the US this week, but I will definitely be back to see Barbara in my return and would highly recommend anyone looking for help to reach out and pay her a visit. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Barbara for taking the time to help, to listen, recommend and provide the best treatments, i truly appreciate it! Wendy More...

Deep tissue massage uses slower, more forceful strokes to target the deeper layers of the muscle and connective tissue to help with muscle damage from injuries. It is extremely helpful in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia.

Some discomfort or even some pain may occur as the massage therapist works on areas where there are adhesions (knots) or scar tissue. You should always tell your massage therapist if you feel pain during the massage. After the massage, you may feel some stiffness or soreness, but it should subside within a day or so.

Clinical massage / Medical massage incorporates myofascial release, acupressure, trigger points therapy and sport/deep tissue techniques with hot stones, stretches and structural integration. It is very effective in relieving pain in the body caused by injury, chronic postural problems or other chronic body aches and pain.

Hot stone massage is a style of massage therapy in which water-treated stones are placed at specific sites on the client’s body to promote relaxation and to help open up the meridians (energy pathways). Muscles are pre-heated with the hot stones to allow the therapist to more easily perform deep tissue manipulations. Cool stones are sometimes used alternately with hot stones. Cool stones can calm blood vessels and sooth the skin. Massage oils are usually incorporated into the massage treatment.

Myofascial Release is a gentle therapy, consisting of a mixture of light stretching and massage work. During a session, the therapist will apply hands-on massage strokes in order to release tension from the fibrous bands of the muscles, bones, nerves and joints, by unblocking any scar tissue or adhesions due to injury in the muscles and surrounding tissues.

Oncology massage is an adaptation or adjustment to the normal massage and serves to accommodate the delicate situation the cancer patients experience along the cancer journey, where a severely compromised immune system, and the side effects of chemo/radiotherapy may create a complex case history. The therapist has detailed knowledge and understanding of protocols for treatment for each stage of cancer, pre- and post-surgical protocols, chemotherapy and radiation protocols, lymphedema protocols and scar tissue protocols.

Pregnancy massage is specifically adapted to the needs of mums-to-be. Pregnancy is a magical time, and massage can enable you to enjoy this journey fully. Massage is a wonderful way of preparing a woman for childbirth both physically and emotionally.

Reflexology is a system of massage used to relieve tension and treat illness, based on the theory that there are reflex points on the feet, hands, and head linked to every part of the body. The reflex areas correspond to all the parts of the body and these areas are arranged in such a way as to form a map of the body. Thus, the method offers a means of treating the whole body and of treating the body as a whole. After all, The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts.

Reiki is a type of spiritual practise used to treat physical, mental and emotional illnesses. Reiki means “spiritually guided universal life force energy” in Japanese. It originates from Japan and it is administered by “laying on hands”. It is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.

Sports massage is a type of massage therapy which is geared toward people involved in sports activities to help prevent or treat injuries. The idea is to apply different massage techniques to achieve a specific goal when treating an athlete. Each treatment case is designed according to the specific needs of each individual client.

Swedish massage uses long strokes, kneading, circular movements, vibration and tapping to help relax and energize. This type of massage therapy is a good form to start with, if you haven’t had a massage before. It is the foundation for other types of massage treatments, including sports massage, deep tissue massage and aromatherapy massage. However, you should consult your therapist who will know after initial assessment which type of treatment is the most suitable for you.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint that connects the lower jaw (mandible) to the temporal bone of the skull. Temporomandibular joint disorder, known more commonly as TMD, occurs when there are problems with the muscles and jaws in the face, for example pain in the face, jaw or ear area.

Myofascial trigger point signifies a small area of stiffness in a muscle, creating a firm knot or tiny bump from the constricted muscle fibers causing chronic ache and muscular pain. These tiny knots develop when a muscle gets over-worked or injured. These are the main source of developing joint pains. They are prone to cause headaches, jaw and neck pains, lower back pains and wrist aches.

Trigger point therapy uses a mixture of stretching and physical pressure applied to those targeted trigger points to loosen up the tight muscles and alleviate pain.

Acupuncture is an antique healthcare system that focuses on the prevention and treatment of illness in the whole body as well as on its surface. Born from the principles of Classical Chinese Medicine and Daoist traditions, Acupuncture treatment influences the energy (qi) in the entire organism. It improves work of the nervous system and regulates blood circulation which results in the release of obstructed energy that causes illness on the physical as well as emotional level.

Through the insertion of fine needles into acupoints found along the specific sites on the body the treatment brings back the natural physiological balance and re-establishes functions of your organs. Being one of the oldest forms of medicine ever known, Acupuncture has been well researched over the decades and gained popularity as well as respect amongst the public health sectors all over the world.
