I have been attending a sewing class at Brewers for a few years and it's so enjoyable. I started off not knowing how to use a sewing machine and whilst I'm still learning I go for a break from everyday life to enjoy being amongst friends who share the same passion for sewing. Julie is extremely knowledgeable when I turn up with a new project and the people at the classes are always so friendly. Kath and Alan have everything you need in the shop and whilst busy, Kath pops up to make cups of tea and coffee. It's just a wonderful place. More...

I love this little shop it’s like an Aladdin’s cave for all your sewing needs. The owners Kath and Alan are very helpful and take the time to talk through whatever you need help with which it is unusual to find this type of service these days. They have a good range of accessories, sewing machines, embroidery machines and over lockers and are very knowledgeable about them all too. I’ve bought a machine from here, had a machine serviced here, and I regularly attend their sewing workshops too which is friendly and very informative and at a very reasonable price the tutor Julie has the patience of a saint when I’m having a blonde day. In the two years I’ve attended the classes there isn’t anything I’ve come across that she couldn’t help anyone with it’s a little “gem” of a place in my opinion More...

Excellent very friendly service and advice. Both owners have a real depth of knowledge of a variety of makes and models of sewing machines and Overlockers, sewing tools, sewing equipment and the clothing/ sewing sector as a whole. I have really enjoyed the honest and professional advice I have received when I have visited on a range of issues I have had with either sewing machine/ Overlocker or just for general advice. I also like their really good selection of sewing threads both for machine and Overlocker. Many shades available and always provide a brilliant matching thread advice if I take in my fabrics. On the rare one off occasion they could not match the thread colour I needed, I was promptly offered that they would source the correct thread for me in a reasonable time scale , which was most helpful.I now use this shop as my first point fo call for my sewing supplies and machine maintenance for my own business. I visited this store for the first time recently, in the market for an over locker and looking to upgrade to a better sewing machine. I knew nothing about over lockers, but as a keen dressmaker, I wanted to take my hobby to the next level. The lady who has the shop, Kathleen, could not have been more helpful. She discussed with me what I wanted to do and what would be the best over locker for me. She spent a lot of time with me, discussing the different brands of machine. When I then looked at a sewing machine, she went through what I would be getting for my money, so that I made a fully informed choice. The two Janome machines I bought are perfect for me, and I cannot thank Kathleen enough for her help and advice. I shall definitely be using this shop for all my other haberdashery needs in the future. More...

Large selection of sewing machines, over-lockers etc. as well as sewing machine accessories. I was able to 'try before you buy' in their sewing workshop upstairs so that I was sure I was getting the machine that would suit my needs. Having invested in my machine, I learned how to sew in the sewing workshop, very knowledgeable staff and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. More...

I started at brewers 3 months ago knowing absolutely NOTHING about sewing but desperately wanted to learn how to make a cot quilt for a forth coming great grandchild. I cannot praise Julie enough who is teaching me also the other lovely ladies I share my Wednesday mornings with. I am in my 70s so there is no excuse for any of you out there who want a laugh. Good company and most of all learn a new skill. It's never to late. Phone Kath and Alan the owners they are wonderful More...

I love this little family-run shop that specialises in sewing machines, spares and repairs... it's a real gem. I adore unique shops that are bursting with character and have a story to tell. .. and this shop certainly is all that, having been in Blakenhall for over 50 years. The owners told me that back in the day there were 14 sewing machine shops in Wolverhampton alone, now they're the only one for miles. The Brewers are lovely and so knowledgeable! I wanted a sewing machine as I've started customising my clothes (it's cheaper than making them from scratch!)... what they don't know about sewing machines isn't worth knowing!! I was under the illusion that sewing machines just stitch in a straight line, but apparently most of them nowadays are electronic and you can download graphics then just programme it to sew something arty! The shop's also packed with all sorts of useful bits 'n pieces, like thread, needles and scissors, so is perfect for art/textiles students and people who sew as a hobby. More...
