About

I run a home based Indian cookery school called ‘Breech Lane Curry House’ from the picturesque village of Walton on the Hill in Tadworth, Surrey. As part of my offerings I also undertake private chef events with a strong focus on offering my family recipes that have been passed down generations, using quality local and seasonal produce and freshly roasted spices.

We have done Jaya’s Indian cookery lessons three times already and we loved it so much! I bought a couple of vouchers for my husband’s birthday last year, and my children also did the kids’ class. The recipes she provided are still being cooked and I cannot fault Jaya for her teaching Indian food skills. She is a passionate person about food, and especially Indian food. I highly recommend her for either online or face to face sessions, be a family/business building team/ friends experience. Hubby is still cooking our favourite Friday night’s meal :) More...

Yesterday evening my 9 year old daughter Daisy took part in an online cookery class with the lovely Jaya from Breech Lane Curry House. She made lamb kebabs and paneer tikka kebabs which we then had for dinner. With a bonus recipe to make a fresh raita to go with it! Absolutely delicious, and she was so proud of what she produced. She thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, including getting everything ready earlier in the day, and learning about the spices we used in the food. It has helped to build up her confidence in the kitchen which is so important. I highly recommend Jayas sessions and will be looking out for the next one!! More...

What a wonderful experience! My husband and I treated ourselves to a 3 hour online cooking lesson with Jaya and everything was well planned, carefully considered and seemingly effortless (although we know how much preparation must goes into these events! ) Jaya was always there to answer our questions when sourcing ingredients, and the session itself was paced very well and the time flew by. It felt as comfortable and relaxed to make conversation and laugh with Jaya as it did to be in silence while concentrating on the cooking, and she paced the session perfectly. By the end, we had 3 absolutely fantastic dishes that all tasted authentic, vibrant and full of flavour. The tips and tricks we learnt were great too, and we received information that we can apply to our regular cooking techniques. We learnt a lot about the spices we were using, and Jaya was ready to adapt at every turn to our set up and what we were using. Whether you're serious about your cooking and want to expand your repertoire / develop techniques, or just want something a bit different to try, we highly recommend Jaya. We can't wait to have another lesson and, meanwhile, will practise what we've been shown. More...

Q&As

From a cookery school perspective, it is the experience that we are able to offer participants from our cosy home cookery studio! What is most rewarding is when we receive images of our dishes being recreated by the participants at their home; it gives us the reassurance that this experience is having a positive impact!

From a private chef perspective, it is the opportunity to put on the table dishes that are so close to our heart, having been in our family for generations - each dish invokes a special food memory - it’s the kind of food you would only come across in an Indian home, not in restaurants. And the feedback from the customers says it all!

Traditional home cooked Indian food has always been an important part of my life. Born and raised in Delhi, in Northern India I got married to a South Indian! This cultural mix of North and South helped build my repertoire of Indian dishes – which have been in our families for generations. Cooking and eating simple and healthy Indian food is something we enjoy and after a lot of thought I decided to take the opportunity to start my own home based Indian cookery school and also offer private chef experiences.

The focus is on healthy yet delicious Indian food using our age old family recipes, freshly roasted spices and local quality produce - the quality of the offering is high end, the service is seamless and the overall customer experience has been brilliant as reflected in each and every review received this far!

Yes - I run a number of online Indian cookery classes that I started in April 2020. The response has been so overwhelming that I will continue to run these even after my face to face classes resume in May 2021.

I am an NCASS trained chef with a 5 star food hygiene rating. I have also undertaken the COVID compliance training. The service takes into account all the COVID rules. I wear a face mask throughout the offering. The surfaces are cleaned regularly, hands are washed regularly. I maintain social distancing throughout.

Services

In my private chef events, I offer guests an Indian dining experience of authentic and traditional Indian dishes that they would not come across on restaurant menus. Each dish represents a family connection and invokes special foodie memories of growing up eating it!
There is a real focus on honest, homely, healthy family recipes using quality local produce and home roasted spices.

How it works:

I would contact you to finds out more about your requirements and then draw up a set of bespoke menu options for you to consider. On the day, I will arrive well in advance to set up and prep. I will, depending on the size of the event, have a waitress to help with service. I will offer a seamless dining experience, leaving your kitchen in a clean and orderly fashion.

Hi everyone, my name is Jaya and I run a home based Indian cookery school called ‘Breech Lane Curry House’ from the picturesque village of Walton on the Hill in Tadworth, Surrey. During the last one year, I took my venture online, offering a range of online cookery classes via zoom.

Excited to share that I have recently invested in a bespoke home cookery studio from where I am restarting my face to face classes in May 2021. I will also continue to run my online offerings that have been so well received.

I offer a range of Indian cookery courses - from small group sessions, to private 1-2-1s to couples only sessions. I also run children's cookery workshops and small private supper clubs to celebrate special occasions from birthdays to anniversaries.

I hope that those of you with a love for authentic Indian food will give my hands on cozy classes or supper clubs a go. Gift vouchers to treat loved ones are also available. You will find all the details on my website. To read the lovely participant feedback that I have received since I launched this venture in 2017 please visit my facebook, google and trip advisor pages.

From my brand new cookery studio, I offer private dining events for small groups of up to 6 individuals. I also offer curry evenings with a twist where you can learn to prepare a starter from scratch, before enjoying it. The rest of the courses are prepared and served by me. This is a great way to celebrate a special occasion or to just come together with a group of friends to try some authentic, traditional and delicious Indian food. Each dish is prepared from scratch, using my village produce, freshly roasted spices, with a lot of love and personal attention.
