Ben Sheppard Carpets

Ben Sheppard arrived at my front door, 2nd January, early; just after I'd messaged him, in panic, because my floor preparations were behind schedule. .. I had the carpet and underlay, already, from an online supplier; however my floors weren't clear enough or clean enough... yet... That's when Ben absolutely shone: What a relief and what a nice guy. From then on in, I knew this was going to go well... and it went so well, Ben Sheppard deserves five golden stars.

Ben basically worked around me, to begin with, as I finished my preparation. He asked what I was planning to do with the old carpet and agreed to cut it into manageable pieces and take it away, for a reasonable charge: Another huge relief as I have no vehicle. He set to work and was just brilliant. I learned all kinds of handy info as he worked. He very gently pointed out that my plan to take the doors off their hinges, before the fitting - and plane them shorter, when he'd gone - might be a bit flawed (and, anyway my Stanley screwdriver set was missing after a period in storage 🤨😆); especially when he saw the Stanley Surform tool I had acquired (😂) to do the planing. It would take a long time... Ben is generous and offered to shorten one door - still on its hinges - with a circular saw... for free!!! Now, I knew - already - that carpet fitters charge extra for that (as they should) but I was "blown away" and not by the windy weather.

Ben carried on with his work. He is skilled, all right, and the carpet (that was) had not been professionally laid. His bars in doorways were excellent and they had to cover different levels of flooring between rooms (eg. kitchen laminate to underlay/medium thick carpet). I was really pleased with the results.

My new carpet - darker than beige but lighter than milk chocolate - is beautiful. I am a tenant; renewing the carpet for the landlord, at my own suggestion; after my dog spent the last week of his life on it; unable to walk; and, sadly, that had created a very deep and permanent carpet problem that chemicals did not eradicate. Ben was so tactful and sweet about the whole thing. He evidently loves animals.

Before Ben left my home, he cut quite large pieces of door matting (leftovers) for me to use: I was delighted because I was now becoming a carpet fetishist (🤣)... Only joking but Ben Sheppard is a serious and very professional carpet fitter - and supplier - with many years of experience behind him and a very, very generous spirit. He makes you feel at home which may seem like the wrong way around but it's not. You want to relax when big and important changes are happening to your home and Ben's manner; helpfulness; technical ability; knowledge and warm heart are just like a tonic.
