I was extremley happy with the service that John Dougal provided on our recent renovation project, he was at all times helpful and informative. Indeed, john discovered that our house was covered by permitted rights which could have been a huge problem as one of the building firms had stated they could start immediately!John handled all the planning permission details, provided all the drawings and was always on hand to advise. I live in Askham Bryan, a village with heritage protection and where seeking planning permission is regarded on a not dissimilar scale to starting an anthrax laboratory. I wanted a car-port and hired Mr Dougal to design and manage the application. It took time but we got the plan approved. Exit Dougal J with a small cheque and enter a builder with excellent skills but who regarded the approved plan as a matter of casual guidance.Exit the builder with a much larger cheque but enter the Planning Officer making groaning noises and, watched by the Parish Council enforcement team expressed demolition sentiments. Re-enter Architect JD who re-drew, re-submitted and smoothed feathers, winning me a most reluctant blessing from York City Council; the natives are still revolting but they’ll have to live with it.Any well-trained chap might make a good Architect---not every architect can be a shrewd and consummate diplomat.
