I have been a member of many martial arts clubs over the years and this is the friendliest one I have been a part of. The students are very welcoming and the head instructor, Narita Sensai, is knowledgeable, patient and very approachable. When I joined the club I took advantage of the free first lesson and was made to feel at home by all the students and instructors, I have now been part of the club for 3years (and counting). More...

After recently moving to Nottingham, I wanted to join a dojo where I could continue to practice Aikido in a friendly and supportive environment and at the same time be confident that the style of tuition I received would be both authentic in nature and taught in a manner that would help guide me along the path to developing my understanding and practice of this beautiful martial art. I feel so fortunate and privileged to have found Sensei Tadashi and can honestly say that the tuition given is really well structured, thoughtful and delivered in a way that will help students of any level to learn at a pace they feel comfortable with. Sensei Tadashi and his instructors are really patient and the encouragement they give is always positive and insightful. I am honoured to be a student of Aikido Shoshinkan and would highly recommend the school for all of the above reasons. More...

Great Dojo! Tad-Sensei and his team are an amazing bunch teaching not only Aikido techniques but also Japanese etiquette and culture. One of the few authentic dojos I've encountered in the UK. Would definitely recommend. More...

Having been a student of martial arts for some years, I knew it was something I wanted my children to get into when they were old enough. The major dilemma was which one?! Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Taekwondo, the list is endless. What I really love about Aikido is that it marries the traditional Japanese martial code and ethos with solid, practical techniques. It might not possess quite the heritage of say, Iaido or have quite the utility of say, Jiu Jitsu but it's a wonderful combination of the two. It instils the fundamentals of respect, keeps the body well conditioned, keeps the mind focused and builds confidence.
My youngest daughter joined Aikido Shoshinkan, Nottingham, when she turned 5. Now 6, she always looks forward to her class on Friday evenings, despite a long week at school and she absolutely loves it.
Sensei Tadashi Narita is much loved and respected by all the students and, as a parent, I know my daughter is in good hands.

Couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to Aikido. Before getting to the classes I found the team were more than willing to answer my (long list of) questions. We asked to watch a class before trying it and they were really accommodating. When we arrived, as I had not done anything like this, I was expecting an uphill struggle. Instead of failure I found everyone in the room wants to help get you there. Sensei and the class are both supportive and serious with you. New or not, you never feel like you are being held by the hand: more like your walking side by side. More...

With both of my boys currently attending Sensei Tad's Junior Aikido class and thoroughly enjoying it, I can absolutely recommend others to give it a go. They have both enjoyed being part of a close knit, fun loving club which promotes self improvement and discipline in a positive way. Sensei Tad's support and commitment to the children is second to none and the club plays a very important role in their happiness and education. Everyone should get involved and be part of this great class. More...

My son enjoys the class and learn respectful to others. Also, think it is important for him to learn a self defence skill to protect himself. Also, it develops self-control as he knew how powerful of his technique he is learning. He needs to think and careful on his act. More...

Aikido Shoshinkan is absolutely fantastic! I have previously trained in other martial arts and I can honestly say that this is one of the most fascinating and insightful styles. Aikido Shoshinkan as a club is very friendly and welcoming and there is a real sense of community and integration between beginners, graded students and instructors alike. All the students are always ready and willing to help each other improve and to learn from one another and to test new ideas. Sensei Tad has a brilliant teaching style and is very knowledgeable, friendly, approachable and patient which is exactly what you need when starting out at a new club. The fact there are several training sessions a week is great, as this provides even more opportunities to learn and improve. There are also regular training seminars from various training instructors from around the world which are not only helpful but are also very inspiring! I think the five star rating says it all!!! I have been with Shoshinkan for about 9 months and I love it. We all make mistakes here and everyone helps each other. tad is a great teacher with patience and an ability to help me push myself, at my own pace. All the people I have trained with during the week and on saturday are friendly and have accepted be and other beginners into the club with a warm welcome. The martial art is very good. Like all martial arts you need to get to grips with the basics, but once you get an idea then the practicality works, in a self defence environment. Tad works very hard to make sure people regardless of age or ability are comfortable and enjoy the training, learning from one of the best teachers I have ever studied under. Come join the fun and learn something worthwhile in a way that suits you! More...

After having a trial class without any compromise I just thought I had at least to enroll at the beginners course although without too big expectations on keeping with the classes after the course due to the fact that I have a very busy after-work activities. But after the course I just had to re-prioritize my activities, as Aikido Shoshinkan had to be a regular one! I feel really happy on keeping with the training in such a High Standard but friendly environment.Everyone should give it a try with no compromise and feel it's good vibe atmosphere. More...
