Q&As

Enjoyment is the secret to taking a great photograph!

In my opinion, you can't take a great photograph unless you love your subject. That is why I specialise in certain areas, rather than trying to do everything.

The reason I photograph weddings is because I love people, I love their stories, their quirks. People are so complex, yet mostly we all share the same hopes and worries on some level or another. Photography allows me to connect with those people, people I walk past on the street, people from completely different cultures. It forms my wider vision of the world. I feel incredibly privileged to have that opportunity.

The reason I photograph interiors is because I love colour and light. It's like a treat to the eyes. When i'm working on an interior shoot, I imagine i'm building with light and colour. Furthermore I enjoy styling the room and its objects to make it feel inviting, or not - if that is what the style calls for. My biggest compliment is hearing that I've photographed it how my client imagines it.

For weddings, I ask my clients how they met, how they got engaged. If they like tea and weather they can manage a large slice of cake. It's important at a wedding that the couple are being photographed by a friend and not by a stranger. That's why I include a pre wedding shoot for every couple I photograph.

For interiors, I ask who they are marketing at, where the images are going, what their favourite room/nook is. I look at their website/brief and I make sure they stay inline with the brand.

I love my job (I really, really do) because it reflects my personality. If the project doesn't appeal to me, then I won't take it on. My specialisms satisfy my creative and human side.

What inspired me to start my own business? Well, its not a romantic story. I was about 23 and working for an events agency. They decided to take me off the PAYE and make me go self employed. It was a small agency, therefore I knew it was an encouraging push. It's the best thing they could of done for me.

I'm friendly and a great communicator. I will ask lots of questions in order to understand the project as clearly as possible before we get started on taking photos.

Let's start with a chat, and maybe a cup of tea!
