I strenuously recommend Is and Ren Studios for any kind of architectural work.
I stumbled across this company by happy accident and the service and commitment they provided to our domestic project was second-to-none.
On first meeting the directors, we immediately felt at ease as though we were in the company of professionals who knew what they were talking about!
The turnaround from us discussing the vision for our home to having the first draft of the plans was less than 48hours! Isil was on hand to make any changes we needed often within a day.
The final plans were so detailed and so true to what we wanted and we were very happy with them. All contact with building control was also taken on by Is and Ren so that was another headache we managed to avoid.
We really wanted Is and Ren to complete the work on our home, but our construction budget couldn't stretch to their quotation. In any case, once the work on our house is complete we will know who to thank for the magic!

We used Is and Ren Studios Ltd for a loft conversion, kitchen extension and garden re-modelling.
They were highly responsive at all times throughout the project, and listened carefully to our ideas to incorporate them, where feasible.
They are an extremely professional organisation that worked to budget, and the finished product was highly impressive. Their experience has shone through in the output, and they have delivered a high quality product, while at the same time, paying close attention to keeping it consistent with the many existing features of the Edwardian house.

ABOUT US
We are a family with two young children and were looking to extend into our loft space to create an extra bedroom/bathroom, knock down a wall between the kitchen and back living room to create an open L shape kitchen/dining area (also a refresh of the kitchen) as well as general decorating around the house.
PLANNING STAGE
The directors of Is and Ren Studios Ltd, Isil and Renato came to see us. They listened to our needs and managed expectations. They worked with our budget to provide us a quote which was very reasonable. They were on hand to offer design and decorating advice throughout the project.
The Works
The rate at which work was completed was astounding. Various professionals would come and go after completing their jobs with minimal destruction. The builders worked through heavy rain and tough structural issues to ensure our vision was met.
These guys are meticulous in everything they do and strive for perfection. We had a site visit almost every day by the site manager who would talk to us about the day and what was happening over the next few days. Our concerns (very few) were treated in a friendly manner, any issues were quickly resolved.
The Workers
Through the project the children got to know the builders, plasterers, plumbers, electrician. What a friendly bunch!! They would say hello to the children but always kept a respectful distance when we were also in the home. They were always on time and worked long hours to meet deadlines. We trusted them so much we gave them a house key.
OUTCOME
Aside from the works we especially LOVE:
- the layout of the loft bedroom/ bathroom
- bespoke handmade TV unit and book shelf
- the curves plastered under the new staircase to create a beautiful flow through the old and new area of the house
We are so so happy with all the work Is and Ren Studios Ltd have carried out in our home. They've gone above and beyond what we imagined - they really do make dreams come true and we cannot recommend this company enough. How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
A garage conversion is a great way to add value and space to your home. In most cases garage conversions are permitted development which means that planning permission will not be required if you don’t plan to enlarge the building or make alterations to the outside of the building.
Things to consider when converting your garage:
- What kind of garage do you own and is it suitable for conversion?
- Is it structural sound and what is it made from?
- What will the use of the conversion be for?
- Is the property listed or in a conservation area?
The garage attached to the property :
These conversions are usually the most simple to convert. Most of the time these do not require planning permission , however they do require building regulations. If you are turning a garage into a habitable space e.g. living room/bedroom then you will need to make sure that they are properly insulated to current regulations. You need to make sure there is :
- natural light
- damp/moisture proofing
- ventilation
- insulation
- fireproofing
- escape routes
- structural soundness.
- certified electrician undertaking the works
- certified plumbing undertaking the works if plumbing is involved.
The property is listed/ in a conservation area?
If you live in a Listed building or a property in a Conservation Area, planning permission may be required for even minor modifications.
Is the property a new build?
If the house is a new build then you will need to check to see if a condition is in place, requiring the garage to remain as parking, so an application to remove it becomes necessary.
Is the garage detached?
Standalone garages are more likely to require ‘change of use’ planning permission when converted to habitable rooms but this is not always the case. If you are looking to convert your garage into a flat then planning permission is always required.
