Wonder Dog Ranch: dog day care & boarding

This is a long overdue 5-star review. It comes on the heels of nothing particular other than I have finally found a few minutes to write and express a public thanks and a shout out to Brenda and Kevin for always taking such superb care of my pups. Example (one of many over the last several years): Last week at the last minute I needed to fly out of town on a family emergency. I bought a flight that was leaving in 6 hours. I frantically called Brenda and of course she was cool, calm and collected (and empathetic to my personal situation as well) as she assured me there was room for the dogs. Their professionalism is unsurpassed. Whether it is a planned get-away for me or a last minute family emergency, I am always extremely confident that the dogs are in excellent hands. I don't feel like I am leaving them in the hands of someone who just "really likes puppies!" but rather someone takes pride in the skill, business and reputation they have worked so hard to build, and YET at the same time, of course loves dogs.The dogs are able to socialize or snooze at their leisure in the "living room" group space. (Brenda and Kevin will even Tweet/ Instagram little photos if you ask them to while you are away so you can see how the pups are enjoying their stay). The dogs even have a TV and a couch and rugs and... :)The really comforting thing is that before the first time you leave your dogs with them, Brenda or Kevin will walk you through everything that they and the dog(s) will do while you are gone. They even demonstrated how they will hold a leash if you are so inclined to authorize a brief outside walk! Or if indoor "breaks" are preferred, there is indeed an indoor potty area as well.If special accommodations are required or requested (ie: private kennel at night, administering medications,) they have never let me down here either.And as an additional side note, from a pragmatic standpoint, their prices are quite reasonable.If I could give them 10 stars, 5 each for Brenda and Kevin, I would. We love Wonder Dog Ranch! Our pups have done very well staying here. Their tails are always wagging when we go in for a stay. I had an emergency on time & was able to squeeze in my pups. It's best to plan ahead but I was really thankful that I was able to leave my pups on such short notice. My dog Maggie and I love Wonder Dog Ranch! When I know I'll have an especially long day at work or whenever I go out of town, this is Maggie's happy place. There is plenty of room for the dogs to run and play, and they also have a lounge area for the dogs with couches and a TV, just like home. Drop off and pick up is quick and easy since they're so close to the freeway and train station. Maggie always comes home tired and happy.The staff is excellent. The dogs get constant attention under their care and I feel like they treat every dog there as if it were their own. Additionally, they generously open their doors to everyone and keep area dogs every time there is a local evacuation, and they do a lot of work in support of our local pet food bank too. Good people. The owners, Kevin and Brenda, are so kind and knowledgable. I know my dog is in caring hands when he is there. He needs some extra care with medicine + food and they are totally willing to take care of this. The owners are so caring...taking time to talk to you about how your dog did during his stay. Love that they send you texts with updates on your dog and a picture - my dog always looks so happy....he probably gets better walks with them than at home. Have to go on a trip soon and am not stressing about it because I know they will be attentive to him and his special needs. Going above and beyond to give you extra advice/resources on our dog's health when he has been sick (taking time to look things up and print them out for you before you return from your trip!) and the vet's solution isn't working. They are not trying to be doctors - just offering some ideas on where to look for natural solutions to inflammation problems and probiotics for stomach issues that I didn't think about. More...

I wish I still lived in Southern California because this is the absolute best doggie daycare/boarding. It may not be the fanciest facility but let's be real, who cares? Your dog certainly doesn't. I've been trying to find a similar daycare/boarding solution in several other states since moving away from CA, and nothing compares to Wonder Dog Ranch.Kevin and Brenda treat each dog that comes through their doors with love, kindness, attention and gentle discipline. They are true animal people. They also provide training, which is a huge plus because although my dog never needed it, I felt comfortable knowing I was leaving my precious pet with folks who have an in-depth understanding of how to handle dogs. They separate the dogs based on temperament and set them up for the day in a "living room" which simulates your pet's environment in his/her own home. If you need overnight boarding there is always an attendant on-site 24/7.I was concerned about there being no outdoors area in which the dogs can do their business, but Kevin assured me the dogs know there's a specific area where they are allowed to go, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that my dog did not smell like he'd been running around in urine or anything gross when I picked him up each day after work. He just smelled like a dog who'd been happily playing or resting with other dogs all day. He also did not revert to an un-housebroken state - he definitely did not start peeing/pooping in my own house or anyone else's as a result of using the indoor potty area at the Ranch.Another plus - reasonable prices, especially important when you need doggie daycare full-time five days a week or if you take long trips out of town.I've paid top dollar to house my dog at high-end facilities and ended up with serious problems like my dog escaping and running away, staff abusing the dogs and actually ending up arrested and in the news, dogs caged all day in small plastic kennels, dog fights due to not being adequately screened or separated, etc the list goes on. If all you care about is image, go ahead and try your luck and blow your cash on Hollywood-style doggie daycare. If you want your pet to be loved and happy and treated well, give Wonder Dog Ranch a try! More...

Kevin and Brenda are so good to us and our dog Champ. Ours is a super high energy mini pitbull, he's a smaller dog but most places won't take him due to breed restrictions. A recent move and search for new boarding spot sparked this long-overdue review of Wonder Dog Ranch.  For several years, I boarded my anxious little guy here and never had a negative to say about the staff or the facility.  One of the toughest parts about moving out of the area was leaving this place behind.  The staff is friendly and communicative.  I love that someone is present 24/7.  They were always available and gave me updates on my little guy whenever I called.  They seem very active in the community, promoting pet-friendly activities and donating to pet-related charities.  It's a good feeling, being able to leave your dog with people that you trust.  I'm missing that feeling right now! My dog loves Wonder Dog Ranch!  As her pet mommy,  I am very particular with who watches my baby.  Kevin,  Brenda, and staff love all of their four legged clients as if they were their own.  The setup for the dogs is phenomenal,  they have so much fun!  They are safe and protected,  enjoying every moment. Wonder Dog Ranch is an inside facility so temperature controled,  not hot in the summer or cold in the winter. PERFECT. I just have to tell my dog "want to go play?" and excitement ensues,  she looks like a wind up toy bouncing off walls.  I am truly grateful for the care given to my baby! They are wonderful! I bring my dog here for daycare on days that I may have to work late and can't get him much exercise and he is always wiped out when I pick him up. The owners are the nicest people ever and are very accommodating to your schedule. There is a free temperament session when you first go to make sure that your dog is sociable. We moved to Monrovia, and one of our biggest concerns was finding a daycare for our dog. My wife and I work long days and this makes it difficult to find a flexible dog daycare. Kevin and Brenda are obvious dog lovers and we are so glad we found them. As long as you are up front about what time your schedule dictates pick ups and drop offs they are incredibly accommodating. This is a great place to leave your doggies when away. The owner and her husband are very kind. They love animals and enjoy doing what they do. I really like the "free roam" layout of this place because the doggies are not placed in "solitary confinement" kennels, unless they don't get along with other dogs. There is also a small living room set up to simulate the feel of being in a real home. I moved here from Denver right at Thanksgiving and absolutely freaked over having to board my 12 year old baby who was never boarded.  Kevin and Brenda have been fantastic!  I was able to leave Emma while we traveled home for Thanksgiving without a worry.  I highly recommend them!  We've used them several times since and absolutely love them and so does Emma! Our rescued small dog was timid and fearful. With the guidance of Kevin and Brenda his personality came out of his shell. He is now fearless, thinks he's Alpha and loves to run and play ball . He is well socialized.

We have him go to the Ranch to exercise at least two if not three times per week. He is always happy to go there and after longer stays is still happy to return.

With the careful screening of each dog this environment is the best place I can think of for a dog home away from home! More...

We were in need of a place to keep our dog for the day since we were on vacation with him and he barked too much for the hotel we were staying at.  I called them the day before and I have to say, they are the nicest people ever.  They had no problem with being the last minute or anything.  They even opened a little earlier for us since we were running in a Santa Anita 5K and couldn't leave him at the hotel.  When we got their I was so pleased and felt good about leaving him there.  The "living room" is great complete with couches, blankets, TV toys and everything.  The owners were very good with the other dogs and mine as well.  I would recommend them to anyone that needs a place to board their dogs.  A+++ people. I love wonder dog ranch! I used to work at a big pet store chain that had a boarding facility and doggy day care so when I needed to board my dog I would take him there and even with my employee discount  it would cost me about $300 because they charge extra for everything!  and working there I knew that he wasn't getting as much attention as he needed. It was all very impersonal. I just took my new dog for a 2 night stay at wonder dog and it was like dropping him off at a friends house! They make you and your pet feel so comfortable and welcome!  and you definitely can't beat the price because they don't charge ridiculous fees for the extras. my little fur baby came out tired and happy! I'm so glad to know that I have a place I can take him where he feels safe and has fun! I definitely recommend wonder dog to anyone who wants their pet treated like family! More...

Wonder Dog Ranch is great!  The facility is set up well and very homey for the pups.  TVs to watch, couches to sit on, multiple play areas and kennels.  Someone is onsite 24 hours a day if a dog is boarded so your kids will never be left unattended and they really care about animals - so much that they are the local emergency evacuation site.  Also, very close to the 210 freeway, making it very accessible if you commute.  Inclusive facility and all well-behaved dogs are welcome!  Some places have breed or other restrictions and this facility does not forbid a good dog from attending based upon factors beyond its control. Wonder Dog Ranch is AMAZING!!!We researched 3-4 other boarding places for our little guy before our vet recommended Wonder Dog Ranch and we are so happy that we found this perfect place for him to have a short day care stay or an extended boarding experience if we have to go out of town. Kevin & Brenda are the nicest people you could ever imagine and they truly care for each & every one of the dogs that stay with them.Our little dog has gone on short overnight trips with us before, but when we can't take him and we have to leave him with somebody, it's really heart breaking & tough more so on us than him.Kevin & Brenda not only made him feel welcome, they also made us feel calm & relaxed in the process.  They have you fill out a very detailed application which we loved so we know they are conscious about what types of dogs they take in under their care.  They have a very large facility with play, sleeping & lounge areas.It looks & feels like home to our little guy while he's there and they do send you updates & pictures or video via Twitter and/or email. This was our dog's first time away from home and I'm so glad it was with Kevin and Brenda. Here are some of the things I really appreciate about Wonder Dog Ranch:1. They use social media. I could see updates of my pup on twitter. Brenda also emailed me photos.2. They don't charge extra for walks. I'm surprised to see some highly rated places that charge for every single thing. 3. The absolute only place I will leave my dog!  The owners are such a delightful couple who absolutely LOVE DOGS!!!  We have left our 7 year old Yorkie Louis with them on several occasions from daycare to a 3-day vacation. It is a great feeling to know that my dog is safe and REALLY happy when I am away.  We have taken our small dog here at least 15 times over the past year and found them to be responsible and a fun outing for our pet.  My dog paws at the door to get in.The dogs are in a living room like setting with a tv, couch and comfy chairs. There is a person inside with the dogs all the time.  They get walks, treats, playtime, and socialization all day long.The owners Brenda and Kevin are super animal people. You can tell they just LOVE dogs and sometimes I joke that my dog likes Brenda better than me. Yesterday I ran into someone who takes their dog to WDR and he told me his dog likes Kevin better than him.  I love doing business in my own town, and I am thrilled to do business with such nice folks, who take amazing care of my pet and do tons of things for our community. The owners are real dog lovers, and are careful about making sure all dogs are healthy and well-behaved. Dogs have a large group play area and also smaller kennels, and a home-like area with couches. I've never left my dogs in any dare care type place before, but this one I'm comfortable with. I take my boxer Gigi to Brenda & Kevin regularly & she LOVES it. She comes home tired & happy. The facility is very clean, has plenty of room, & a lot of stimulating activities. They don't just lock your dog up in a kennel - they take them on walks, play ball, & a take some pretty hilarious pictures too (which you can check out on their face book page).It seems like both the owners really enjoy their line of work & genuinely want to take care of your pet. Honestly my dog is happy to see them & has a blast every single time she goes. I really can't recommend them enough. They are so easy to work with as far as scheduling goes & really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They are also really involved with the local community so you often get the update on local events going on around town.
