Our third visit for afternoon tea , thanks to Birthday vouchers!
It is very close to getting 5 stars , but could improve on the following for me :-
I would rather have a savoury option , more sandwiches , less cakes. Sauasage roll & fruit cake would be nice instead of all creamy cakes.
We left lots of cakes , as did several other tables.
Otherwise very nice staff & surroundings. More...

Held an event here - good catering and great to hear the staff are the hospitality students studying at the university

Had a lovely sleep and it was very posh but not too posh if you get what i mean
We had a lovely three night stay here. I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed it! We were visiting family in the area, but needed a place to stay at night. I actually wish we had a little bit more time to spend at the hotel, since we loved it so much! The breakfast was fantastic, and I appreciated the wonderful cappuccinos I started the morning with every day. More...
Went there for a special birthday meal. A beautiful old Manor House, converted to a luxurious hotel with themed rooms. The food was superb and the service was excellent. A well hidden little gem.
First class break in a luxury suite. Every thing about this break very very good. Would recommend to any one
Fantastic for special events, weddings, afternoon tea or just an escape from city life. The manager Oliver is a really attentive and helpful guy with a flare to succeed.
This is one of the main hotels to invest in students. It is liked to an advanced education program in hospitality.
Cannot rate this highly enough as a place to stay or even to just visit for dinner. More...
Went here for a friends birthday. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would recommend to people for events
Had dinner in the Brasserie on Thursday evening. Reception and service were good, young staff helpful and friendly, and if they couldn’t answer our questions about the menu they were willing to find out and report back. Food was generally very good - we had pork, lamb and trout for mains. All were tasty, hot and well-presented; the lamb portion was rather small, and the Alsace cabbage rather uninteresting. House white was palatable. The refurb of the Brasserie is a big improvement over the previous design. Altogether an enjoyable evening. More...
Staff, service, food and place absolutely stunning. Well done guys great day.
The housekeeping team do a great job. I think the brasserie restaurant is a bit expensive
Lovely hotel. Beautiful grounds. Just don't listen to the sat nav on getting there.
Shooting a groom prep for someone's wedding. The staff were fantastic and very helpful, the location and scenery is absolutely gorgeous.
Sunday evening dinner. First class service and a very tasty meal. Thank you once again. See you again very soon

Attended a wedding at the wivenhoe. Staff were extremely courtious and professional. The venue is in a beautiful setting and a perfect place to hold a wedding. Brilliant venue.
Excellent service as is to be expected from a service training school. Asked for custom order when booking which arrived perfectly without reminders on the day. Beautiful location and interior. Very well turned out staff which makes it all the more worthwhile dressing up oneself. Wide selection of seas and luscious cakes for afternoon tea. Highly recommended. More...
Very nice Hotel and grounds. The suite we had was clean, large with good views. The food and service was excellent. Must mention Daniel who works in the restaurant, his customer service skills are very good. The only downside was the reception area, checking in/out was shambolic. People queing, more staff needed. Overall we enjoyed our stay More...
Afternoon tea for a birthday. Lovely spread but the tea was not free flowing. Idyllic surroundings, very helpful staff. Can't comment on the hotel as not a guest but would try it out.
We enjoyed a nice meal in the brasserie for a colleague's last day before maternity leave. The staff were lovely and we enjoyed our lunch. It's a handy location for University of Essex staff. More...
It's mostly student run, but all very nice. They are quite good in the restaurant, especially for breakfast and dinner. Interesting waitstaff to talk to, actually. The rooms are big and well kept and it's just outside of the University central campus so it's a great location. They don't advertise it, but as a guest, you have access to the student gym of you ask the concierge, which is a great asset. More...
