Excellent pub, great food.
Great atmosphere and food, a bit pricy though
Fantastic, cavernous traditional-ish-feeling pub. Great staff, fantastic food in both the bar and restaurant, and a yorkshire pudding to die for.
Dan 'Guaradian' Judges
Great food and atmosphere, backed by excellent service.
It's my regular for a Sunday ròast these days. The service and food is great. Really terrific flavoursome beef.I really like the fact they have either the pub to dine in with lots of little nooks a crannys for tables or a more formal restaurant vibe upstairs.
Me and my husband had lunch here today. Amazing food and lovely atmosphere. Staff are very helpful and friendly especially Rob and Molly who were enjoying their day off and still found time to help us choose our great meal from the menu. Will definitely visit again.
One of my favorites in Brighton. So many different parts to it so there’s something for everyone. You can even enjoy their club late night if you are up for it. Have to check this place out!
One of the best roasts I’ve ever had in a classic British pub. The Walrus lies just off the beach front and slightly before The Lanes. In interior is fantastic, ambience is wonderful and staff and general vibes are great. The pub also has a wide selection of ales and other beverages.Would definitely visit here again when in Brighton! More...
Very good, simple and elegant place with a grate food.

This place has everything. Food. Beer. Dancefloor. Restaurant. Private room. Lovely beer garden. I am always recommending it to my friends, worth a shot for everyone.
Jack was great!
Great pub and lovely atmosphere.vyet to try the food but will soon.
Great beer and food
Great sunday roast.
Fantastic Sunday roastI went for Sunday roast without making a reservation. I sat in the bat area with my girlfriend and we had roast lamb and one roast pork with crackling. Both roasts were superb and tasted very good quality meat. There was plenty of vegan a huge Yorkshire pudding. The service was superb and I would recommend and return for food or drink again More...
Andy behind the bar has amazing service!! The bouncer Joe is the friendliest and will really look after you!! Definitely recommend!!
Quaint pub and friendly bar staff. Only downside is it doesn't have any televisions.
What a gem. Went here on a Saturday night, basement area with dancefloor was opened and cheesy 70/80s bangers played all night, brilliant. Friendly staff, drinks not horrendously priced, nobody looking for a fight, just people having a good time.cant really ask for much more More...
Seems nice enough. Much bigger than it looks
Wonderful pub. Two levels of beer gardens. Clean restrooms. Friendly personnel. And they carry my favorite bitter, Harvey’s Best Sussex Ale.
Very popular with the after work crowds
Good food. Nice ambient

Todo muy bueno. El Sunday roasts bueno y abundante
Great Sunday roast, lots of different areas hidden from the outside
great Brighton pub brilliant atmos
Never eaten here but a quirky pub restaurant where every floor offers something different including the top floor that is open to the elements making it airy and sunny on a warm afternoon.
Great old interior that has lots of separate spaces and is really big inside
They were the best of times, they were the worst of times. Nice pub, huge roof garden.
Nice place to have good time !
Excellent Sunday roast - it’s rare that lunch defeats me, but the portion sizes here are huge! Delicious food, and great value.
I am the Egg Man
A hidden gem. Live music space downstairs and lovely atmosphere.
Beste Klos ever
It's huuuuge! Although a very large place, it still feels very cosy with all the little nooks and levels. There's a two level roof terrace with plenty of room. The food is good and the prices are pretty standard for Brighton. The times that I've been there the staff have always been friendly and helpful. More...
Really cool pub, with an amazing smoking area. If you can get here before it gets too busy then it's perfect for a weekend drink. Can be pretty expensive though depending on what you're drinking More...
Great pub, nice food, great beers.
Excellent atmosphere and food is amazing. Excellent choice for vegetarians as well.
Brilliant veg starters
Good pub with a nice selection of beers and serving good food. Lots of different areas to sit in with a terrace for those who smoke or want to be outside.
Really good food with top notch service in the restaurant area
Offers gluten free beer. Good food fare as well.
Lovely place, great atmosphere
Fabulous evening here
Lovely place and good service
Lovely food and atmosphere
Very stilish pub!
A real TARDIS of a pub this one! It goes on forever! Multiple floors including a traditional pub on the ground floor, dance classes and gigs on the first floor, a restaurant floor... Then, not one, but TWO semi outdoor floors up top offering a comfortable smoking area! Beautifully upholstered seating, excellent food and friendly staff! Unsurprisingly this place is always quite busy but you never have to wait long to get served. Highly recommended! We use it a lot for special occasions as there are lots of books (or even separate rooms) which hold a good sized group and can be reserved in advance. More...
Excellent meal, competitively priced. We had five different meals off the menu and all five was first class and large portions.
Top atmosphere! Cracking pub
Came here a little while back on a friday evening with a few friends. The interior is rather impressive and massive. Garden at the top is lovely. However, I felt one concern. a dozen of the staff seemed to be on training or trial shifts and due to the hectic environment, looked overwhelmed . Consequently they did not have the information to help with enquiries from customers and they also did not seem to be given enough guidance from manager. I am sure however that this may not be fault of management and most pubs are chaotic on weekends anyway. .Would return again (but maybe on a week night!) More...
Best beer garden in Brighton. I have to say though, I’m a regular and have never seen customer service quite like Kitty’s. She was an utter delight, working the bar solo, looking after every single patron and having a laugh with us. The pub would probably only get 3 stars without her! More...
Great pub, Donna on the door was very polite.
Very comfortable and lovely friendly staff. Great food.
a massive pub that is always really busy, serving decent ales and with a good overall vibe. female friendly and very safe in here.
Tolles Essen, tolle Leute, toller Laden.
Lovely, lovely, lovely. Would definitely go again.
The roof top garden is beautiful. Need to try the food next time as it smells devine!
My starter of beef carpaccio was heavenly. The cheese board starter was also great. Plenty of vegan options. The decor was Victorian and well done. My only problem was with my burger, after the starter, I had expected it to be great, but, unfortunately, it was average. Next time I'll pick something else... More...

Lovely pub. It’s super spacious yet super friendly at the same time. Amazing roasts, from meat to vegan. I will be going back!!
Deceptively big pub. Totally feels like a TARDIS as you walk through it. Lovely friendly staff, beer priced the usual for Brighton so can't complain at that. All round enjoyable place. Go for a few beers and the next thing you know you are dancing the night away! More...
Nice bar maid with bad leg top pub.
Nice decor, good atmosphere, friendly doorstaff, but the DJ was amazing, a fantastic blend of 70/80/90's pop/funk and soul.
Great Sunday roast good food and plenty of it. Staff fantastic looked after us and great baby facilities. I'll be back
Nice bar, smoking floors / levels upstairs, disco downstairs. Good prices, amazing atmosphere. Can strongly recommend.
Delicious Sunday Roast! Very busy though....ensure you book! Also double check the bill ...we inadvertently had extra wine added to it, but resolved quickly and without fuss! Would visit again!
Good vibe good service
Never been in this pub before and I'm so glad I've been now. Great atmosphere and fab decor.
Great place for late night music and great Sunday lunch!
Really like the space of this place. Staff was lovely

Downstairs seemed a bit dark, dreary and old fashioned but overall I had a great night there. Food was good.
Had meal with friends here for the first time tonight. Good menu choice with 3 main course vegetarian options. One friend had one of these and had no complaints. In fact all of our meals were v good. Fish cake starter was well presented and tasty. The resturant upstairs where we were had a nice decor, good atmosphere, staff were efficent and approachable. Good atmosphere. One small downside was it took a while for the main courses to arrive. Nice pub bar area downstairs. Worth a visit. More...
Visited using a Wriggle deal. Friendly and fast service, and the food is wonderful.
Really cool bar. Love the smoking terrice and the staff are cheerful. A little pricy but I think it's well worth it for the atmosphere
Best roast dinner!

Very nice big pub. Specially the restaurant is decorated to very good taste. Excellent food and very good selection of wine and beer.
We came to the vegan supper club. Really loved it in that building - so atmospheric. Staff nice. Food portions large. Starter was brill - main course of 3 aubergines only so-so, but pudding brill again, so a rating of 9, 6, 9 from me. Wines were good too.
Just had our valentines day evening here off the set menu. Food was excellent but our service was better. Our waitress truly took her time explaining everything to us and made us feel very comfortable. Thank you so much Genevieve for making our night. More...
Wonderful place, delicious food, and brilliant service.
I have visited the Walrus several times over the last few months for business and with friends. I love the atmosphere, space and the food
We went for Sunday Lunch and it was superb - my beef tasted beefy and according to the others, the lamb was lamby, chicken chickeny and pork porky. This may seem obvious but often a Sunday roast just has the generic texture/taste of meat. This was exceptional. We ate in the pub rather than the restaurant and definitely will revisit. More...
Great pub. Great atmosphere
Cosy, nice bar staff and not too crowded.
Enjoyable. Busy but friendly
Lovely pub ..one of my favourites in Brighton.. and so warm
Fantastic place for friends/family dining.
I booked a room for a private function with my work. They were fast at replying to my emails about hiring a room even though it was very last minute, they explained everything clearly. When we got there they were very helpful, the staff were lovely and made sure we were happy. Would definitely recommend. More...
Great atmosphere and plenty of room.
Our son had his wedding reception at the Walrus on Valentine's day. Staff couldn't be more helpful, food was delicious, space was perfect and great variety of rooms to choose from. Thank you. Highly recommended.
Huge labyrinthine city center pub with an old style decor but modern vibe. Plenty of space and the rooftop 'garden' area is impressive but still a bit soulless and of course brighton prices. Have not tried the food.
Great old pub - welcoming frieldly warm - looks great !! Enjoyed a few Jd's like to try again in warmer weather
Great place to meet up with friends.
Very Nice Reeb
Good food for groups. Friendly bar staff and waitresses. Nice crowd in there.
Pretty cool place.
Post Xmas work-out. Food was very good and great value for money. Great interior and lovely waiting staff
Giant pub with good beer and service, large roof terrace, good quality toilets
Organised a tennis club night out for 40 people last Friday and had nothing but positive feedback from everyone that attended. We had a three course set menu designed for us and the food was great (far too much of it!) and the service fantastic. All the organisation before the evening was very smooth and Alan, the manager, was always very helpful dealing with any queries. The pub itself is such a great venue and had a lovely feel about it. Highly recommended. More...

Great food ,great atmosphere reasonably priced for Brighton
We booked the Rugby on Sunday afternoon and were shown to a table in front of a large screen. Every table was reserved so it was a controlled sized audience and therefore a comfortable experience. We booked a table upstairs for a roast after the game. Their roasts are very good apart from their Yorkshires which are oversized and on the tough side. Staff always friendly, welcoming and helpful. really enjoyed the decor and the food , great vegan and meaty options for Sunday lunch , really good staff.
Lovely olde worlde pub great decor and the drinks were great as well
Absolutely brilliant pub in the centre of town. Set on 4 levels it's great place for a night out.
How does a good pub stand out? Well there are certain boxes to tick on everyone's list -anyone for dirty loos and a punch up, for instance?. And then there are a few my own private Idaho's. Mine revolve mainly around lighting, punter ambience, type and level and noise and beer, selection and quality thereof. This TARDIS like emporium sits between the elegant Lanes and the kiss me quick seafront and pretty much ticks them all, and in a good way too. There is a large ground floor bar, second floor restaurant and a bizarre third floor space for the smokers, where the rain comes down through the skylights and there is still a gallery above you to watch the stars from, should the weather permit. I am most definitely an eggman for this place. Go back to rock school if you don't get that reference.. More...
Great atmosphere, really friendly staff. Will be back.
Excellent pub, with friendly fun staff and a decent and unusual beer garden/smoking area upstairs. The basement had a club which was pumping out back to back 80's bangers and the manager Taye was particularly welcoming. Would highly reccomend.
This was a fantastic experience to sit in this beautiful restaurant and have a good dinner, the service was excellent.

Absolutely fantastic, can only be described as a tardis with great food, great drinks, great atmosphere, stylish, classy and lots of pleasant surprises,
Charming!!! Simply charming!!!
Love this place. Real tardis. We came here for a quick drink after and stayed for the night. Smart looking restaurant on the first floor plus the roof terrace above. Food is deliscious but my girlfriend found portions too large. I liked it as I had hers as well. Really good pub, love it. More...
We had a roast last sunday in the pub section with a group of friends and it was perfect. The staff was friendly and attentive, the food was very good and it was great to have different options as we had vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters in the group. Nice staff, good location and great beers. Very cool decoration. It looks like a place where to have a chill chat. Very interesting decoration
Good pub loads of space, lighting and atmosphere good
Location is good. Many choices of GIN
Nice food, good drinks. Great service.
The best traditional beautiful warm friendly pub in Brighton by a wide margin. I know they spared no expense making such a gorgeous stereotype of the perfect English Country Pub..The Roast dinners are to die for..Wine by the bottle is very reasonable for Brighton...Huge enclosed smoking room for the coughing crowd..It really is like walking your dream pub...All the staff are young...happy..and helpful...Absolute Drinkers Heaven....Enjoy More...
Great fun pub, made to look old, but works well.
Great pub, lovely staff.
We had our staff Christmas lunch here and everything was perfect! The room was decorated so beautifully and very festive. The table was well presented with plenty of room. The service was top notch- attentive and very friendly. Every staff member we encountered was lovely. And the food Delicious! We all loved our meals! There was a slight problem, but that was handled so well that it didn't ruin our experience. I can't wait to return for a meal. More...
Excellent food - both vegie/vegan and meat options. Great for a Sunday roast. A bit expensive but huge portions. Best to go when you’re really hungry! Amazing space outside upstairs, particularly when it’s a nice sunny day. But also good in cooler weather when you can snuggle up inside in a booth. Wheelchair/buggy friendly. Although the baby change table is very high up so I was changing a nappy at eye level (however I am only 5ft). All in all a wonderful place to visit. More...
We were having a drink here on a Saturday evening with the Fifa World cup going on. Still managed to get seats (4 people).
2 of the people are smokers. They could smoke at the terrace while still sitting with us.
Beer and Cider were good. Nice and not too loud music.
Mix of all ages.
Not sure about food as we had eaten earlier on. More...
Had dinner and visited the bars here tonight. Excellent venue; the food was amazing, the wine was delicious, great beers and the staff were the the best. 100% recommended!
Lovely pub/restaurant. The terrace area on the top floor is beautiful and great in the summer. Can get very busy on big occasions but is huge and the food is great!
Good pub. Looks good. Amazing upstairs terrace. Floors and seats for days!
The Vegan Supper Club - I'm not vegan but the food was amazing. Five courses and three glasses of wine at an excellent price. Very creative and rich dishes using refined ingredients. The place is also welcoming and elegant. The dining room is beautiful. Only two small downsides: was a bit too warm inside and they didn't specified on menu and flyers the 10% service charge. More...
I had prepared for our one-night stay in Brighton by shortlisting the restaurants I wanted to visit and purchasing tickets to the Royal Pavilion. Brighton is a kind of vegan mecca for England and we were ready to be spoiled. That night after freezing rain and wind, we went to a different restaurant to get a "proper vegan carvery". Carvery's and Sunday Roasts are a traditional dinner in England on Sundays and we knew that Brighton was one of the few places we could get one. When we arrived to the other restaurant ready to tuck into some traditional British fare, we were bummed to learn that they had run out of vegan servings for their carvery that day. This is when things got interesting... while we chatted with the barman trying to sort out where to go, a young patron sitting at the bar whipped out his phone and called The Walrus. He verified that they still had vegan servings left and got us directions. Three cheers for the friendly patron that went out of his way to find us dinner! We are thankful for you, stranger!Humming with gratitude that someone would go so far out of our way for us, we took the short walk down to The Walrus. Walking into the warm and cozy pub downstairs felt exactly like what we thought a traditional British pub and restaurant would feel like. Everything is dark and green and wooden, complete with mismatched chairs that aren't even trying to be cool but just are. Old photos line the walls and the entire space has a "welcome to your rich English aunt's house" vibe. We were offered a window sit upstairs, complete with a round table for two tucked into a stained glass alcove. Barely glancing at the menu, we selected the only vegan option... the Vegan Wellington dinner. Sipping our pints and looking out to the rickety street below, we waited for our plates. When these massive entree's arrived, our jaws dropped. Not only was it a vegan option, but it was a robust, well presented, ultra-traditional vegan option... which is practically unheard of. A golden flakey wellington stuffed with spinach, mushrooms, and vegan cheese was over a bed of almond-mushroom gravy, it's perfectly crisp crust barely visible beneath the mountain of golden beets, stewed cabbage, perfectly cooked roasted potatoes, and a massive carrot and asparagus lay over the whole thing. The plate was finished with a Yorkshire pudding of epic proportions, which we knew wasn't vegan (the menu indicated that the plate was vegetarian, vegan without the pudding) but no harm, we just had them take those away. Trust me when I saw you will not miss that part, the food was so incredible and abundant I couldn't even finish. In fact, our dinner was so damn good that on our last night in England we actually took the train from our hotel near Gatwick airport down to Brighton just to have the vegan wellington Sunday dinner one more time. We were surprised when the heaped plated plunked down in front of us were different... While the Wellington, gravy, and roasted potatoes remained, the sides were replaced by a cauliflower au gratin that rocked my world and a pea-and-broccoli sautee. I could have eaten an entire dish of that cauliflower alone! This plate was more than good enough for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike. We finished off both nights by sharing a slice of chocolate-orange tort accompanied by coffee ice cream, and the second night a very reasonably priced Shiraz-Malbec bottle. Our dinners ran us about 50 pounds for each night, which included two entree's, drinks, and a shared dessert. For all you vegans out there, I also noticed they have Vegan Supper Club events! Although The Walrus was not originally included in my over-prepared itinerary for our trip to the UK, it was one of the highlights of our trip and I'm so, so glad we missed our chance to eat at the original place I chose. This happy surprise, the awesome patron who sent us there, and the incredible dishes were absolutely worth it. I mean it when I say I cannot recommend this place enough. Whatever your dietary preferences are, make it happen and get to The Walrus. You'll be so very glad you did. More...
Visited on Saturday 31st March. Impressed by the space inside and the older charm of the decor. Nice mix of people. And a log burner to boot to keep the chill out. Would have liked to spend longer there, but had dinner reservations elsewhere. I will definitely put it on my shortlist for another evening out. More...
Great place this, it's a cross between a pub, a TARDIS (srs, you would never believe from outside how big it is inside) and a rabbit warren. Quick, friendly service, real ale well kept, didn't try the food. Well hidden and HUGE dedicated sports bar, see if you can find it. ;) More...

This place is AMAZING, I only recently found out about it - the smoking area is huge and feels like the inside of a house, which is perfect if you are out at night with a big group of smokers. It is a big venue, which are few and far between in Brighton, and does not get overwhelmingly busy like The Mesmerist does. Would recommend! More...
Best Sunday roast I’ve had in a long time, good service and I love the decor. Well done.
This is a fantastic pub and a must visit whether you're a local or just visiting Brighton for the weekend. Its a pub with great staff and has a quirky but traditional feel with its multi-level design and decor.
The first/main area as you walk in looks like most nice pubs with a few cool booth type seating areas towards the back but as you venture deeper in to the building you realise there is more than meets the eye! To the left of the back end of the bar is a small area that leads on to a whole other room and in it, along with more seating, sits a 'pretend' bar and a dapper pretend barman. There are a couple of Windows in this area pointing out to the main bar area, adds to the fun of the place. Before turning left to this area, further at the back, are stairs down to the very spacious and clean toilets and a room that is used for events or private functions. The other set of stairs go up to the restaurant area (stairs to this are also at the front end of the building). If you don't fancy stopping there then you can go up a further level to a covered smoking area, but not like most covered smoking areas I bet you've seen before; it feels like you're still sitting inside, which I thought I was.. wondering why people are smoking.. until a few drops of rain fell on me. Looking up you'll notice in the middle of the high ceiling is a grilled large hole for ventilation.. now it all makes sense.
I love this place and visit regularly now, discovering something new every time I go but the only reason for 4 and not 5 stars is the food, some items are nice but overall it's a limited menu of average quality. Now I'm only talking about what's served in the main area of the pub, I am yet to try the restaurant area and see what's on offer there.
In addition they often host great live music in the pub area and events in the function room downstairs. More...
Went to The Walrus for New Year's Eve and had a fantastic time. Loved the way it has been redecorated and you can always judge a place by its toilets which were very good.
It was an ambitious menu, 5 courses, but well presented, and couldn't fault the taste
We sometimes had to wait for the next course but given the logistics I think they did very well. We were a very happy group More...
A friendly pub with a big beer selection. Real warren of a place. Lovely and cosy and nicely decorated. Would be Keen to try the food. They show sport downstairs so a real mixed bag. Will definitely be back! More...
Top class venue, most accommodating for parties and group events plus a fabulous atmosphere for a wonderful night out. Excellent food and ambience. .. all round 5 star!!!
A kooky place run by the same folks as the iconic Lion and Lobster. Spread over 4 floors, with a bar at the entrance, a restaurant serving great food (although usually disconcertingly quiet), a fantastic glass covered roof terrace, and a basement that they tend to have either live music or show sports. You can normally get a seat without a problem but bar service can be slow.
Unique and interesting venue that seems like it's been there forever but was extensively remodeled and opened in 2017. More...
One of the cities newest additions, and what a credit it is. Lovely old building that was previously 'Smugglers' the new interior decor has been done in a Victorian/colonial style and has a very comforting feel. There are numerous floors, the ground done out in a more traditional pub setting and has an ambience to match. The first floor is a restaurant and has a more laid back dining experience. The second floor is a roof garden and atrium area that also has a great vibe. The drink selection is very good with a large choice of wines, spirits and craft ales. The food is superb, one of my favourites being the 'Posh Lamb Kebab' which is gorgeous. The staff are very helpful and attentive. Since opening the Walrus has quickly become one of my favourite destinations in Brighton, well worth a visit. More...
