What we liked:The Mercure Holland House is a clean and fairly well maintained hotel and for visiting the centre of Bristol is is a pretty good location. It is one of the few centrally located hotels that does have on-site parking although there is a nightly charge for this. The staff were warm and friendly and the check-in process was quick and smooth. The room was well laid out and had everything that you could want for a short stay.Decor wise there were a few questionable choices but there again, everyone's taste is different. What we didn’t like so much:The heating in the room was a little hit & miss, despite the thermostat setting it did seem to wander between too hot and too cool. The heating fan was also a little noisy. The breakfast buffet was impressive in its selection of food, but, the hot food especially was very dry and the fried eggs looked very appealing but were so hard that the almost could have been fake. The coffee was very good on morning one but on the second day seemed to be very weak which was a great shame. Stayed here for a short weekend away and chose this hotel as it was fairly close to the centre and had a pool we were able to use. The rooms were fine, just your standard hotel room, and they were clean which was the main thing. Unfortunately on the Saturday night there was a function right above our room (we were on the fourth floor!) it was so noisy the walls were almost vibrating. After asking downstairs we were informed that this would be going on until around 1am, but after asking again they allowed us to change rooms and gave us a premier room on the first floor which was much better. This room was a lot larger and had a coffee machine, a bath tub and a few soft drinks in the fridge, but if you are thinking of upgrading I would personally say, although nice, it would not be worth the money. Over all a nice stay wouldn’t be my first choice but would stay again. More...

I booked two rooms online, one for myself and one for my friend, we wanted to visit Bristol just to have a look around for a couple of days. We found this hotel to be the perfect base, it is really close to town and all the places of interest in the local area. The rooms were well equipped with all you could want, they were clean and spacious with good showers, one of the best things was the mini fridge and the drinks were included in the price, we also had parking included in the price. Breakfast was very good and we had an evening meal once, which was lovely and not really overpriced like some hotels. I have nothing bad to say and will return at some point in the future. More...

Highly recommended hotel, with comfortable rooms, well equiped en-suite, and extensive facilities. However, for long distance travellers the advertised car parking is a major problem since being made public access meaning hotel customers are unable to park. On this visit I was only able to park one night out of three, which is not acceptable for a hotel that claims parking for residents. More...

Not stayed here before. Nice hotel and not as far away from city centre as I thought. Had a coffee on arriving, no it wasn't complimentary, but it wasn't very good. Annoyingly, when we got back at 11 ish there was a wedding reception in full flow. We were on 4th floor and it was noisy. And it didn't stop till 1230am. It would have been nice to have been told about it by reception when we checked in. Poor show. However, as we couldn't sleep and we were peckish we ordered Nachos and a vegetable pizza. Both were excellent if a bit pricey. Parking is not good. Get there early or risk parking in a Council car park at even more extortionate prices.....grrrr More...

My husband and I stayed here last weekend as part of a coach trip.my husband became ill and nothing was too much trouble for the staff bring him a receptacle when he was being very sick then calling an ambulance using their personal phone and staying with us until the paramedics arrived then refused to take any payment for the call. I was quite stressed when I returned from the hospital and leaving my husband who by that time was on intravenous treatment and was given a complimentary glass of wine and shown so much care by the staff Hope the manager realizes what fantastic staff they are. Friendly greeting at the reception desk. Booked our car into the car park using the pad on the desk. The lady looking after our checking made sure we had all the information to have a great stay, she gave us keys to access the gym and pool area. |The pool was fine, no jacuzzi which we knew about, but big enough to swim a few lengths etc. Some of the tiles and decor could go with a bit of attention due to flaking paint etc.|Our room on the ground floor was a “Privilege King” room and it was pretty spacious. Plenty of sockets, a chiller fridge with complimentary soft drinks and room to store some we brought with us. Ironing board and iron, room safe, coffee pod machine, and a really odd wiring set up of an overhead pendant light!|The bathroom was okay, quite a small sink, with no shelf to place toothbrushes etc. Few mould stains on sealant around the bath, and exposed screw heads on the floor at the front of bath panel. The bath was lovely and deep in which we both enjoyed a lovely romantic soak together after a night out drinking in a few bars on The Harbourside.|The king size bed was so comfy and huge. Stunning crisp white cotton sheets and no squeaking at all from the bed whilst me wife and I got very relaxed in it. Very effective heating in our room as it was quite chilly out. |We didn’t book breakfast, as we thought it was a little pricey and opted to have breakfast in the town centre instead ahead of a days Christmas shopping. Ignore the look of the hotel outside as it’s really very different when to walk inside and yes I’d stay there again. | More...

More...

For our 10th Anniversary we decided to visit the Bristol. We selected this hotel based on the pool, the fitness centre and the location. During the booking process we reached out to the team at the hotel to check items like parking cost etc (Staying at the hotel parking is on a first come first basis and over the weekend the car park was extremely full).||||From the outset team at the hotel were very engaging and the extra mile they went to having discovered it was an anniversary we second to none and we could not have thanked them enough. ||||The room itself was comfortable and cleaned well. However the windows are single glazed meaning that you can here the cars and the church bells in the night. It was not enough to keep us awake but if you are an very light sleeper you might ask to be placed at the back side of the hotel which I think would be quieter.||||If you are a porridge eater, what we received over the weekend was divine, maybe the best porridge we had ever had. The breakfast buffet was also good with really nice local sausages that I enjoyed a little too much (hence the pool and fitness centre was needed).||||We only had dinner in the "Urban" the onsite restaurant one evening and it was "OK" nothing special but also not terrible. If you are a real foodie I would not recommend it based on the two dishes we had. However the burgers on the other table did look amazing so it might just have been a case of our wrong choices.||||So to summarise, the hotel was clean and tidy, breakfast was well stocked and the porridge is divine. But what makes this hotel in our opinion is the staff. Everyone was on it, nothing was an issue and as a regular hotel visitor (80 days+ a year) I would be more than happy to return to the hotel for another long weekend in the future. More...

One night on business with with 2 colleagues and the hotel was perfect for our needs. Firstly, there was a large car park. Yes it cost £15, but we were able to leave it there until later the next day. Location was great with lots of bars and restaurants with easy walking distance. Reception was fast and efficient and the bedrooms were large, modern and comfortable. We didn't use the pool or gym. There is a huge bar area and we enjoyed drinks until late.
