I would recommend Mark @ Verve Architecture very highly. We have worked with him for a number of years across multiple projects. We've recently engaged with him to design a new side extension and loft conversion for our house. Not only are the designs functional, but they are beautiful as well. Mark understood from the beginning exactly what it was we were trying to achieve. In addition, Mark's help and assistance throughout the planning permission application was truly unrivalled. We hit a number of issues, including archaeological dig queries, issues surrounding tree roots, and an extended back-and-forth with the conservation area and planning officers. Mark took away all of the stress and handled all of the above despite it being a long and drawn-out process. In the end we received full planning and this is almost entirely down to the hard work that Mark put in. Even since, Mark has been a regular face on our project and has always been available to our builder and engineers for questions and often comes on-site to assist. We used Verve for our house extension and found the experience very easy and satisfying. Following our initial meeting where we discussed our needs, budget and aspirations for the build, we were presented with several drawings that reflected our project which we could adapt and tweak before confirming our choices. Verve took a lot of pressure out of the situation for us as they dealt with planning permission and building regular on our behalf which made the process smoother, all the while communicating to us what to expect next in terms of timeline and costs. This helped us plan and budget more effectively giving us more peace of mind. We enormously enjoyed working with Mark, he was always easy to reach, gave clear and concise reports and successfully delivered full planning permission in a timely manner. Our 1900’s house was updated adding a loft conversion, three bathrooms, a 50sqm kitchen/garden room along with a two space garage, drive and gates. Initially good as Mark gave us some ideas that we had previously not thought about. However after going through the planning process, we discovered the roof design chosen was after discussions with our builder going to cost us considerably more money to build and this was not what Mark had advised. We therefore had to go back to planning to re-submit a new set of drawings. After chasing Mark for weeks by phone and email we hadn’t heard anything, however after leaving this review, he got in touch straight away!!! Mark then helped us sort out the new drawings and these were submitted to the planning department. Once approved we contacted Mark about resubmitting then to the building control company. He promised that he would send them but after about a week we checked with the company nothing had been sent. Chased him again - left two messages and sent an email but again nothing. This has been a very stressful process, taking over a year to conclude and Mark has certainly not helped to ensure this was a smooth process for us. More...
