I was given a 2 week trial by the manager, Gary and I had a very good experience with them. I came to the Daily Ultimate Training a few times with Mathew and it was great. The training kicked butt, the coach was motivating and everyone in the team was so friendly and helpful. I felt very welcome and no pressure by Gary or Mathew to sign up for membership. It's a big small, family style gym which is not where I normally go but it does the purpose. Too bad that I already had started my 2 year membership with another gym. Was in San Jose for a few weeks and dropped in for a few BJJ classes while I was in town. The UFC gym was close by and had a shower on site which helped a bunch. I was hesitant at first and thought the place would be a bit clicky. I was wrong. The guys at the front desk welcomed me into the gym and gave me a tour of the facility. Its smaller than I expected but kinda homie. The attitude was fun and I never saw anyone with a bad attitude. I took classes from professors Nick "Eastside" Borbon and Patrick Welsh. Both instructors were great and provide a ton of one on one attention to the students in the class. The students in the class are all welcoming and willing to train hard. The level of experienced students was the only downfall in my opinion, not that I am much better but it's always fun to get choked out by upper belts. This place is great! Good instructors, flexible class times, and a great vibe. I'm a regular at boxing conditioning and Daily Ultimate Training (DUT). This place is a microcosm of silicon valley with a diverse membership and helpful staff. I've been working out at this gym for over 2 years and the recent remodel has the place looking clean. All of the instructors are good - I've had Janet, Alex, Marc, Matt, Alan, Gary, Wayne, Jimmy, Brass, Murph, Julian, etc. The reason the place gets crowded at times is because the classes are good and the membership cost provides great value. I've seen entire families working out together along folks of all ages. Bottom line - this gym is what you make it. You can nitpick and find fault in anything but really it comes down to YOU. They have regular one hour group classes which address all aspects of fitness and basic martial arts skills. I've been coming here for almost a year now. The classes are challenging but fun, and now that they have a new batch of coaches, I've been really enjoying the workouts. I don't like feeling crowded, which is great because the class sizes are small and to be honest it's pretty empty unless it's 'prime time' (5-8pm), so if you have a flexible morning schedule it's a great gym to be part of. It is not cheap to be a member, which is the only downside, but since bootcamp style kick/boxing workouts are my absolute favorite, I'm probably going to continue despite the 'lure' of other more affordable gyms. I did start personal training here and while I was hesitant to start because of the pricing, my trainer is amazing and I feel like I get so much out of each session that it has been very, very worth it. My only advice to management would be to make sure the coaches keep changing up their workouts, as for a little while in 2017 the classes were starting to feel all the same and the circuits felt all too familiar each time I attended. But since the remodel I'm really impressed with the quality of the gym and trainers and it seems to have injected some new energy. Great place to be! More...

I signed my 3 boys up for the UFC gym and it has been nothing but a positive experience. I think they have the best coaches. My boys originally started boxing, but soon after fell in love with jui jitsu, now they want to do it more than boxing. They have competed in 6 tournaments , so far this year, winning 8 gold medals, 3 silver and 4 bronze. I never would have thought that this would be life changing for the boys, but it has. My son Anthony who is 10 started the New Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu kids class in November of 2016 and since then he has been in almost a dozen tournaments and has won nearly all his matches. The credit for this goes to his Coach Chris Murphy and his Checkmat team. Coach Murphy is hands down the best coach I have seen, I have coached sports myself and what I love about Coach Murph is that he implements discipline, attentiveness, and integrity when he teaches. I have noticed in the nearly 9 months that my child has been attending Coach Murphs class that his self esteem has increased as well as his physical and mental ability. Coach doesn't just train kids for competition, he trains them for success as growing people. I recommend Coach Murphy to any parent looking to get their kids in BJJ. Love this gym! When I started a few months ago I was intimidated until i realized it's not like other gyms .. it's like everyone wants you to succeed with your goals. If you want results and you go a few times a week to the classes and talk to a coach you're on the right track . But the classes are amazing - I do that DUT and boxing conditioning a few times a week and try other classes as well. Never in my life I thought I would love coming to a gym so much. I've been training with Alex for about 6 months now and I reached my first weight loss goal in 3 months. Which was to lose 30 pounds. I am currently working on my second goal. I've never felt so fit, strong and healthy in my life since I've started to train with alex. My life has changed completely with his help. Every workout is different, fun and challenging. Alex is currently teaching me how to box which has given me the necessary confidence and defense technique for an emergency situation. He has taught me that it's not about failing it's about how many times you're able to get up and push through. A lot of what Alex has taught me is not only useful in the gym but is useful in life. Update: Beginning Year 3!! Still here and getting better and more healthy.I've been mostly doing 1:1 training with Chris Murphy (one of the coaches there), and attending the occasional class. I have never been as fit as I am today at age 55. My lean muscle mass has increased dramatically and my body fat percentage (as measured by DEXA scans) went from high teens to low teens. The fact that I have been with one trainer for 3 years tells you what I think of the product. Without even working on it, other physical activities like my mile time have vastly improved. While the classes are good, the one hour spent 1:1 with Chris is intense and unrelenting. We'll start out with rope skipping, and then he mixes up mitt work, varied conditioning workouts, and then sparring. He's ramped me to the point where I can go pretty hard for most of the hour, hitting the wall and then moving past (most days anyway lol). I learned that is when the gains begin, with any work you can do after hitting your first wall. Never experienced that in Crossfit. The difference here I think is the 1:1 approach. Chris is fully attentive during your session. Every detail of your balance, footwork and striking is constantly being improved. During sparring, he emulates several different approaches on you, to give you good looks at different styles you might encounter. He'll do the conditioning workouts alongside me, e.g. the sled pushing, which will really test your mettle. You can't slack off or fake it with this guy, his sharp eye is on you constantly. If you are serious about learning striking and boxing (BJJ too, as he's a brown belt), you have an awesome trainer in Murph, as he's called. He'll bring his A game EVERY time. Not once has he come and not provided an intense and positive session. He has a large group of various amateur and professional fighter friends that he learns from and brings to you. I've been coming to this gym for 3 months now and absolutely love the classes, personal training and the staff. I have had multiple surgeries on my leg and Coach Murphy has helped me maximize my athletic potential through safe/smart training.... I can honestly say I haven't felt this good in years! After my initial review I injured my knee and was out for 6 months... I've been back for a few months and the staff has been incredibly supportive and accommodating with modifying exercises, I feel stronger than ever! This is not a gym you come to if you like putting makeup on to cruise on an elliptical. like you see people do @ Bay Club or Equinox. This is for people who like to SWEAT, get down and dirty and be super sore and actually challenge themselves. I like a little grit and this place has it- and I mean that in the best way possible. I recently moved back to SJ from Redwood city, I was going to Undisputed Boxing and was super pleased when I heard this gym was down the street from me. I feel like this is a hidden gem, hard to say because I've only taken two classes, however- both times there was plenty of space and it was not packed at all. My old gym had so many people and we did the same stuff every class, literally same stuff...every class. Both the classes I've attended at UFC have been with Miguel- very attentive, and very tough workout. I'm so sore right now it hurts to sit at my desk and write this review. I also want to give a shout out to Ruben who signed me up- very helpful guy. He called me exactly when he said he would the next day to get my info and lock me in. Great gym. Since all the classes are included in the monthly price, this gym is focused towards getting you to come in every day for a class. Since I'm going to classes every day now, I feel like I'm getting in shape significantly faster. Ok, so this was my first boxing class w/UFC San Jose. Overall, I received a "Sweat-worthy" workout and I am happy about that. The reason for 3-stars is because I was told that proper hand-wrapping technique would be provided, as well as stretching and thorough training would be provided just before class begins. I have had previous kickboxing experience in a professional dojo, but that was quite some time ago. I forgot how to wrap my hands (sad. I know). Hand-wrapping and stretching were NOT even mentioned and class began right away with a light jog. I found someone to help me, but it interfered with class time. As for the thorough training, the instructor appeared to be explaining the punch combinations but his voice could not be heard due to the music volume and the fact that he was always on another side of the workout area. This was kind of frustrating because the next exercise would begin before confirming that everyone actually heard the instructions. There are other instructors on the schedule, so I think that I will try again on a different night. I will not judge the entire business based on this single experience and I know that every trainer/coach has his/her own style; this was just not what I expect or desire. I was looking for a new place to work out after moving back from LA, and decided that I wanted to learn how to fight. Since this UFC gym is super close to my house, I thought I'd give it a shot. Started boxing with Coach Murphy, then going to jiu-jitsu classes, and now I practice it with Coach Murph during personal training sessions as well. After only two months of training, I'm in WAY better shape than I ever was doing Crossfit in LA for six months. Plus I can kick some ass now, instead of just doing random weight movements. It's seriously the most fun workout I could imagine, and Chris Murphy is the best trainer anyone could ever ask for. Group fitness is the way to go! Don't get me wrong, I like having "me time" at the gym. But there is something about working out with other motivated individuals that is just so inspiring. The classes are tough (I'm literally drenched in sweat after a 1-hour class), but very rewarding. All of the coaches are very knowledgeable and approachable - there's something to learn from these guys! I've been told the Sunnyvale location is much bigger, but this facility is clean and has enough room to accommodate a full class (albeit it's smaller size). Not only he helps me cut weight, gain muscle, increase stamina, boost up my fighting game but as well as better my mental game like confidence, tenacity, and toughness. I joined about 9 months ago and it was one of the best decisions I've made. As some background, I wrestled in high school and then did a few years of judo and BJJ afterwards and try to stay in shape year round. But for the past 10 years or so I had fallen into the usual monotonous workout routine which consisted of machine cardio followed by some lifting. Workouts had become boring and uninspiring and I realized that I needed to mix it up.My first week here, I started with the group boxing classes and I was humbled. Damn, "fitness" is redefined when you don't set your own routine and your own breaks. These classes are great for cardio, core and basic boxing and kickboxing technique. Almost all the trainers have some fighting experience so it's not a nonsense boxercise class. The gym has lots of heavy bags, a ring, some matspace, a double ended bag, speed bags, some cardio equipment and weights. They don't have a ton of weights so if you need to do a 20 set chest workout and your focus is to increase your max bench or squat then this isn't the gym for you. And this is primarily a boxing/kickboxing gym right now but grappling classes are in the works and should be starting soon.After a few months, I started training with Chris Murphy aka "Murph." Murph loves what he does and is good at it. Since I'm a big MMA fan, I was intrigued by his background. He's a professional fighter who actually lived in Brasil for a couple years and trained at Nova Uniao. Nova Uniao is the fight camp where Jose Aldo, the pound for pound # 1 MMA fighter in the world trains. Murph has a solid background in boxing, wrestling and BJJ. His sessions mostly involve boxing and basic fitness but he also offers one on one jiujitsu training. Working out with Chris has gotten me into great shape and my boxing technique is improving each week. I like that he works me hard and takes me out of my comfort zone because that's the way to get into real shape.The last thing I'll say about the gym is that it really has a family feel to it. The trainers and the management are all down-to-earth and friendly and know me by my first name. No meathead, bro personal trainers walking around like they own the place. I moved to NorCal about the 6 months ago and one of the best decisions I've made is join the UFC San Jose Gym. Oscar, Miguel and the rest of the staff have created a great team environment to enjoy training, build relationships and learn about your fitness goals. Just signed up within the last week, and I got to say that this gym is the best value out of any workout environment I've seen in the area. Anybody else is not even close.I had specific goals to get back in shape ( wasn't in terrible shape, but I let myself go the last year or so), learn how to box, and get some tips on basic self defense.When I signed up, I was expecting to pay something around $150 a month, which is what most chain facilities charge for similar type of amenities and training. I was shocked to find the price way lower than that, and took advantage of a promotion to extend my service agreement. I checked out other MMA type gyms and boxing establishments and I would have paid a lot more and gotten less in return.Note: The classes can be tough if you are just starting out, you have to learn to pace yourself and not try to impress anybody, otherwise you are going to pass out in the first 20 minutes. However, the staff is well-trained and they will keep checking in on the beginners. Lot's of fundamentals are taught regarding stance, hand movements, strikes and technique. This is important so members can learn how to hit correctly and not hurt themselves. Significant time is used hitting the heavy bags and pairing up with partners to practice the combinations.What is also great is that there is a 50/50 ratio of men to women, which means the instruction is solid. Feedback from women I talk to previously is that they are either intimidated by MMA training or they have gotten bad instruction in the past, but here that is definitely not the case.Miguel, Chris and the other trainers have lots of experience and are very good at taking the time to teach you right. New management, a couple of new coaches, and a different way of teaching classes - you get to do mitts now too (if you want to), so it's not just a pure cardio class. I'm working with Chris Murphy on my wrestling and boxing skills, but he is also an experienced BJJ, strength&conditioning, and MMA coach. You can't go wrong with this guy. Overall a nice small gym with awesome instructors and grueling but fun classes. I signed up because I wanted to change up my workout routine with boxing classes and liked how the schedule was full of classes each day, great for whether you want to start your early morning strong or let go of some stress in the evening after a long day of work. I've only taken boxing, but kickboxing and BJJ classes are also offered if you're so inclined. The classes are a mix of boxing drills, cardio and bodyweight exercises for a good all-around workout. Shah, Miguel and Brandon are great instructors who are all motivating and easily approachable. They each have their own style and I was able to pick up something different in terms of technique in their classes, so I'd recommend trying them all out. I definitely prefer going to classes in the morning as they're not so crowded and you get can more individual help on form.I also wanted some more work on technique, so I signed up with some personal training sessions with Shah. He really helped me with my form, footwork and timing and I was able to progress at a great rate. I really liked the variety in his sessions as we'd train combinations, footwork and defense, heavy bag and speed bag. If you are looking to get in shape and more importantly remain in shape this is a great place. The exercise routine here is very sustainable and you will learn to fight, defend yourself, improve flexibility, co-ordination, the boxing and kickboxing combo not only works out your body but also your brain in terms of focus, reflex and coordination. This is old school -real deal, not some lousy unsustainable 30 day work out plan, so be patient. Shah, Miguel and Brandon are excellent trainers. Plus the music here is awesome, the trainers go the extra mile to customize the play list to fit the workout. I have taken personal training session under Shah, it is excellent , he has very good communication skills, attitude and very professional. My boxing and kickboxing skills have improved a lot. I cannot rave enough about this gym!1) the staff is professional - at what other gym does this actually happen From the front desk to each individual trainer, they take the time to get to know your name and are genuinely helpful. 2) each workout is intense and effective! I never leave disappointed. This gym pushes me wayyyy harder than I would ever push working out on my own. Totally worth it. 3) the facility is always clean, and maintenance issues are taken care of in a timely manner. Booyah. I love all the trainers and look forward to every class, but a big shout out to Shah! I've been a member at UFC San Jose since Feb 2014 and can honestly say it's one of the best gyms I've been a member of. Helpful staff, great equipment, not as intimidating as I expected (ha!), and a packed schedule of classes. Shah is an awesome instructor who after 9 months still kicks my butt in his boxing/kickboxing classes. No two workouts are the same, so classes are never boring. People are awesome, and membership fees are reasonable. I also see Shah for personal training, and honestly at first I wasn't sold on personal training. I've had bad experiences with over-zealous trainers who were more concerned with THEIR goals than mine. That said, Shah's a kick ass trainer! Whatever your goals are, whatever level you're starting at, he's there to help you get where you want to go. I would never have been able to push myself to be where I am now, so thanks Shah! I'm signed up! Sign up with me for a hefty sweat and a heavy burn on calories. OMG, I wanted to change up my cardio routine a bit to shock the body and boy did this happen. Keep in mind that i've only been doing a couple short cardios each week before diving into one of UFC's classes but I was sweating profusely within 15 minutes of starting the class, during, and for about 15 minutes post class. I wish I had known about this place a year ago and instead of Club One. Gross, but I probably sweat more here in one class than when I would work out at Club One Silver Creek or Santana Row. Oh well, better late than never. I inquired online and Amanda contacted me right way. She wasn't pushy at all and convinced me to come in and take a trial class. I've officially been a member here for a month and what can I say, this is like my second home. I come every day and I can honestly say that this is the best gym that I have ever been a member of. There are so many classes offered throughout the day so you really have no excuse not to go. The staff is friendly, supportive, and helpful and the gym is clean and doesn't smell like other fighting gyms. The rates are reasonable, especially if you come take a class at least 4 times a week. Alex or Amanda will hook you up with a great rate and always provide service with a smile. Now, for the important stuff. I've taken the boxing, kickboxing, mma, and personal training classes and they all are amazing. There are many instructors, but Caleb, tony, David, and Shah are my favorites. Caleb is very friendly and works with you to break down your technique while still providing you with a great workout. Tony will kick your ass. Every time. Period. His classes make me sweat more than I ever have in my life and he teaches you lengthy punching/kicking combos that teach you speed and accuracy. David seems intimidating but he's a funny guy with a great amount of energy. He forces you to push your limits and makes sure you've got the correct form. With small classes, he has you workout in stations which provides you with one on one workouts (mitt work/thai pads). Shah is by far the nicest instructor, he's funny and energetic and provides you with a great workout As well. He makes sure you've got the correct technique and will catch your punches too! Shah also teaches mma/Bjj classes. Chris is a great personal trainer. You tell him what you want and he delivers. Kills you in a time span of 30 minutes, but the one on one attention is unbeatable. Love doing mitt work with Chris! Helpful hint: morning classes are best. Fewer people in the gym means more individual attention. UPDATE: It's been 15 months since I started and I'm still going three times a week to the classes (which are still unlimited with membership), an hour of hell but you feel so good afterwards for the rest of the day. We could use more people in the morning, come on by, ask for a tryout class. You won't be disappointed.I've also gotten some Personal Sessions with the coaches in Boxing and Fitness. The Boxing coach, Shah, is an excellent instructor and he helped me improve my form (as it was I kept straining my shoulder, but it's much better now). If you want to improve your boxing form and get a good personalized workout, I highly recommend Shah!Original Review: I did the P90X series at home a couple years back, went the full 90 days. I got back into decent shape, but it was a lonely process, and Tony Horton was always going to be douchey, no matter how many routines I mastered. Why, Tony? Why did you not acknowledge my accomplishments? So this year I turned 40, and I saw that UFC had a place around the corner from where I live, so why not? DAMN that first free class killed me, but it was amazing how great I felt the next day (in addition to being sore as hell). The kickboxing class wasn't just some string of cardio drills masquerading as training, they really want you to know how to punch, kick, knee and dodge, they just know how to make it fun. I've been going for a couple months now, and I am hooked. I'm in the best shape I've been in since I was 17.The only danger is you have to keep up the momentum! If you go once a week, every single class you take will be the hardest class ever (this took me a month to figure out). Make time for at least three visits a week (you can attend any and every class you want, unlimited), and each week spend an hour or two of free time in the bag cage and on the mat. The trainers are all experienced and each have a unique teaching method, which if you balance properly, is WORLDS better than P90X, Insanity or whatever you do in the comfort of your own home. It helps to have someone bulldogging you for an hour, believe me.Cost is reasonable, plus if you can, pay for a set of 5 personal training sessions (beyond the 3 free they give you for signing up) and you can learn some great techniques that you can do in your free time between classes. Hello, are those arm muscles I have not used since...um...never?! I had a blast trying this place last night. I will admit that my performance was less than spectacular, but the trainer and assistants were very patient. It was a pleasant surprise to work out with such friendly class mates. The pricing schedule is not outrageous, but this gym is fairly new so get your booty in there and sign up before everyone finds out about it. There is plenty of parking a good spread of sessions and a Starbucks in the same parking lot. Okay, I am not supposed encourage dehydration, but hey. Give them a call and arrange a visit, it is worth it. Do not follow your GPS, that will take you to McDonalds. It is on the corner shopping center on Payne and Winchester.
