Q&As

Helping people make changes to their lives and seeing the difference those changes make. I have supported people that have had crippling anxiety, restricting their daily living, who through therapy have got their lives back on track.

I had a bad road traffic accident in 2008, prior to that I had worked in social and behavioural policy, but following the accident was unable to do this work, which involved much travel. I had trained as a counsellor in the early nineties and had always been interested in counselling as well as hypnotherapy. Following the accident I had PTSD and used a therapist, a very bad therapist, that left me close to suicide...it was recovering from this that I got involved in lots of self help therapies and decided that I wanted to up-skill and re-train to become a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist. The experience that had had both with the therapist and following the accident, plus the training, has made me the therapist I am today. I work in a very person centred way, I support, I help people move on.

I have empathy, I have a person centred approach to therapy and most of all I listen. If you've read why I started this business, you will be aware of my approach. The therapist I saw would cut me off because my time was up, whilst I appreciate a therapy session cannot go on for ever, I never cut a client off because their time is up - because I listen, I support and am in tune with my clients I always round off the session in a positive way.

I am also well qualified and experienced. Not only do I have the relevant qualifications, including a PhD, I also train psychotherapists and hypnotherapists. My husband, John who works with me, is also a qualified life coach, Mindfulness practitioner and hypnotherapist.

We are regulated (CNHC, National Council for Psychotherapy, British Institute of Hypnotherapy) and work within those regulations and ethics.

Services

My expertise lies in:

Managing Pain – offering some practical hints and tips, and some skills you can learn that could help you to manage your pain. It’s about self-management, about you taking back some control by learning ways and methods that can help and support you to reduce the impact of your pain.

Menopause – managing the symptoms and experience of perimenopause and menopause, mid-life issues and aging

Fibromyalgia – is a condition that causes pain all over the body (also referred to as widespread pain), sleep problem, fatigue, and often emotional and mental distress. People with fibromyalgia may be more sensitive to pain than people without fibromyalgia. This is called abnormal pain perception processing. The cause of fibromyalgia is not known, but it can be helped with psychological support alongside other treatments offered by health professionals.

Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) – which is the most common condition most people have never heard of impacting many adults in the UK. FND has a number of symptoms including seizures, spasms and chronic pain, but they are often dismissed as being purely psychological. I work with other health professionals to help you manage this disorder.

Therapist Supervision – I started working as a counsellor, with troubled families, during the early 1990s and have much to offer other therapists in managing their practice. I run face to face and group supervision sessions.
