The Training Works

I had developed a rear wheel puncture on my Brompton on Monday afternoon, during the diluge of rain sweeping across the south of UK. Anyhoo, I managed to repair the newly developed puncture, but the gears were just not quite right and the rear brake was not working quite as good as it should do. After returning home from the City, I gingerly cycled down into Richmond and popped into Richmond Cycles, on the off chance that the guys would have a look at the bike. One of the guys was extremely helpful, running over the bike and quickly saw my issue. I had put the rear wheel locking nuts on upside down, thus the derailleur was loose. He then quickly fixed the brakes and found that a nut and bolt was missing from the rear mud guard. This would explain why it has been quite hard to cycle around and possibly explain the puncture. He quickly fixed a new bolt and made sure everything else was running alright. He patiently explained all of the procedures as he went along. Took my bike in for a general service last week. Bike came back to me at the end of the day and felt like a brand new bike. There was a little fault though which they did not pick up first time round but they said to bring it back the next day and they would look at it in more detail. They fixed the problem at no extra cost.All in all i experienced a very professional service with friendly and very helpful staff. Richmond Cycles is exactly the way LBS (Local Bike Shops) will find a place alongside the 'mega' high street chains. While the latter has the ability to lean on multiple stores to squeeze suppliers, Richmond Cycles is the harbinger of what Local Bike Shops should aspire to be.

First and foremost, the staff. Whether it's a friendly hello, leading a shop ride or advising on the best fitting part, the front of house and mechanic team are peerless in creating an environment that's welcoming for those new to the hobby, and cognizant for those who have an established interest.

Having used plenty of other bike shops, after my first time in Richmond, I've never been anywhere else for servicing, parts or spares, and when the attitude, facilities and community feel are such a delight, why would you ever think of NOT shopping local! More...

Just took my fixie for a new chain - RC advised that it's not yet needed (but will be soon), and adjusted the chain and lubed it for free. A slight difficulty is that their mechanic doesn't work weekends, so getting it done when it does need doing will be difficult. Nonetheless, a pleasant experience with a helpful team. Recommended. This is a fantastic bike shop. I returned to the country after 10 years abroad. I had little or no knowledge of what bike I needed. All I knew is that I needed a bike to help with my commute as I’d have to park 20 mins ( bike ride) from my car. Anyway they recommend the Brompton Bike. I initially had The Fear as these bikes are pricey. Anyways due to the amazing, friendly and knowledgeable service at this shop ( and many sleeps thinking about it) I decided to go for it. The bike has been a life saver, the poor guy in the shop must of helped me for over an hour showing me how to fold and unfold!! Plus they give the first service free! Expensive but the standard rate for Bromptons... cannot rate this bike shop higher. It’s a shame I live in Brighton now, otherwise would be frequenting for more services More...

So this year since February I have committed my life to health lost almost 30 lbs and I would say a huge part of this process has been the Paleo diet. Where I am no longer going from diet to diet but accepting that this is my lifestyle and way that I eat! However, the most profound thing that happened to me in this process was meeting my Trainer Melissa Tarver she has been an inspiration, a goal driver, motivator and a friend to me through this process.
