The Media Marketing Co launched as a dedicated digital & social media marketing agency in 2009. It specialises integrating social media marketing with digital marketing, advertising, PR and SEO to provide visibility marketing and increase ROI for businesses. The agency was one of the first to offer social media marketing, SEO and social advertising in the UK.
Most businesses now have digital collateral, including websites and social media profiles, as well as often running social advertising and Adwords campaigns and other online activities. However, we consistently find that few are visible online or maximising the available opportunities to increase conversions and sales. In addition, many are wasting budget by not integrating their activities.
Our founders and directors, Claire Burdett and Helen Moore, have over 30 years each of experience in marketing, content, tech and PR at a senior level on both client and agency side across a wide variety of market sectors. They are both early digital adopters and met on Ecademy, the precursor of LinkedIn, in the 1990s.

What makes a great website?
A great website is one that works. By that we mean one that works so it helps you sell your services and products. In order to achieve that every little bit, from UX and design to content to SEO to the sales funnel, has to be done properly. Our website designers are a wonderful bunch of creative magicians who take pride in getting it right, so your website promotes your brand and helps you make money, because that is what it is all about. After all, no one needs an 'all fur coat and no knickers' website that hangs about on the internet looking pretty but isn't fit for purpose.
We will also make sure that the website is thoroughly optimised, from the front end content to the metadata, in order to further boost your position on Search Marketing, and we will also ensure that your beautiful and easy-to-use website is set up as a funnel for sales. By doing all that we know you will then be well on the way to gaining social traction and hitting Google's sweet spot so you get more traffic and convert more in to potential and actual clients and customers.
We know it's more effort than a regular website design studio goes to, but we know you're in business to make money, and you can't do that if your website doesn't work properly.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What are your goals, what's the lead time, and what resources do you have ie how many in house staff, how much time available to implement, how much budget? We would also want to know about stakeholders, and the approval process.
What do you love most about your job?
Making things happen. See our client case studies on the website for some of our best moments... such as when we got an architect practice to the top of Google for all their search terms, to the point when they were inundated with work and actually asked us to 'switch it off' ... or helping an author win a prestigious book award.
What inspired you to start your own business?
We founded as a social media marketing agency in April 2009. It was a 'back of beer mat' kind of project that proved to be the right people in the right place at the right time, and was immediately successful.
We are probably unique in so far as we were three female founders who loved tech, were early adopters and actually met on social media.
Claire (marketing and publishing) and Helen (PR and content) met in the late 1990s on Ecademy, the business networking site that was the precursor of LinkedIn. The third founder was Sally (website designer), and she and Claire fell over each other on Twitter within the first few weeks of it opening its doors in the UK in 2008.
All three worked in different parts of the media industry and were also of an entrepreneurial mindset, and loved helping people. One day in early 2009 we were chatting on Skype about how we had had enough of watching businesses being fleeced on Twitter for this new 'thing' called social media marketing by companies who didn't know what they were doing and yet were charging vast sums for nothing, and feeling sorry for the businesses who were getting fleeced. We knew we could do it infinitely better, that we had all the skills required, and on the spur of the moment decided that we should launch an agency to do just that. In short, we decided to try it. Sorted website, services, the whole caboodle and launched and landed our first client within six weeks. Guess you could say it proved to be a winning combination as we're still going strong a decade later, although nowadays there's a few more of us and we also do digital marketing, inbound marketing, content marketing, websites and SEO, as we have found that integrating all of that together with social media marketing is the best way to help our clients get visible, attract clients and get a good return on their investment.
