12 Amazing Videos
I needed some video interviews to illustrate a 50th Anniversary issue of an academic journal. I had no experience of video making and a short deadline to meet.
I was recommended to contact The Hook. The filming was done over two days in two locations, a Conference at an Oxford College, and a London College. It went without a hitch. The participants – including former journal editors, international and UK Conference attenders – were apprehensive about their turn in front of the camera, but all exceeded their own, and my, expectations. This was totally down to The Hook’s careful preparation, anticipation of possible problems and quietly reassuring manner while filming.
The editing process went smoothly. The attractive backgrounds and ingenious use of cut-ins – to illustrate people, academic papers or locations – made for lively videos. Where people had mis-spoken, skilful editing dealt with any problems.
The 12 videos are just perfect and working with The Hook was a real pleasure.

Video Editing
I started editing videos in 2007 during my career as a marketer creating marketing and PR focused video communications. My focus has always been to ensure that a comprehensive narrative forms the basis of an engaging visual experience that is targeted and appropriate to the target audience.
With planned and scripted films, the onus is on the camera operator /crew to deliver the required footage including appropriate cutaways (b-roll) to add context to the narrative and also provide a means of transitioning between takes. With efficient planning and camera skill, editing time can significantly be reduced.
When footage is captured in a more opportunistic fashion for example at events, there is likely to be a greater need for post-production as it may not be possible to control environmental factors such as light and background noise.
I have the full range of professional editing software tools to cope with such eventualities. I use a powerful PC with Intel i9 Core 9900k 3.6GHz for editing allowing me to speedily edit 4K/Ultra high definition footage.
My software subscriptions include Adobe Creative Cloud of which I use:

Videography
My background in video production started in 2007 whilst working as a marketer for London Metropolitan University. I undertook a short course in video production at the university as part of my professional training which lead me to take responsibility as the lead producer of both internal and external video communications.
Throughout my time there I produced hundreds of videos including:

explainer videos on how to enrol at the university
advice videos on how to find accommodation, manage student finances and apply for jobs
teaser videos to encourage interest in various subject areas
internal communication videos to disseminate changes in working practices
Freelance Videographer
I carry the many skills from my time as a marketer to my present role as a freelance videographer, including:
Project management - excellent organizational skills having managed a variety of resources including camera operators, editors, programmers and designers to successfully deliver large-scale video communications projects on time and within budget
Excellent interpersonal skills - effectively working closely with CEOs, Senior management teams, and staff at all levels of the organization. Encouraging participation in video projects and providing training and advice on presentation skills
Script-writing and development working closely with academic staff to ensure that technical information is presented in a comprehensive manner and appropriate for the target audience
Interview skills - researching the subject matter prior to the shoot, setting the talent at ease and encouraging a confident and articulate delivery
Locations - negotiating and obtaining film permissions for a variety of iconic London locations, including the Tate Modern, the South Bank Centre, the Golden Hinde, V&A Museum of Childhood, Westfield shopping centre, the Barbican, the London Eye and the Royal Institution
Technical skills - studio lighting techniques and camera skills using the university's purpose-built studios and a variety of Canon camera equipment including the Canon C300
Editing skills - ensuring that a comprehensive narrative forms the basis of an engaging visual experience that is targeted and appropriate to the target audience.
Video Equipment
I use Lumix cameras with low light capabilities and image stabilization filming broadcast quality 4K/UHD, which allows for greater scope in post-production and facilitates the production of high quality photos from video if required.
Footage can be supplied to any required format or resolution.
I have a variety of rigging options including a shoulder rig, 2 tripods and a monopod. I also have a 3 axis motorized gimbal stabilizer and motorized slider for or smooth motion shots . For events if required I can film above audience head height using a tripod extender and portable riser.
My lighting kit includes 3 LED lighting panels, a portable video light and a Fresnel LED spotlight.
To record audio for interviews I have a lavalier clip mic for wireless audio capture, but also have a shotgun mic and condenser mic to cover all other possible situations. I can also take an audio feed from a venue's audio desk to my field recorder and also have my own 18 channel digital recording desk for live performance recording.
