My son and I stayed at the Bell Inn overnight when on an overnight trip to close-by Whittlesey to deliver and collect classic cars. The staff in this cozy gastropub were all super friendly both in the evening and early morning. Dinner and breakfast, taken from an expansive menu, were delicious and the room very comfortable. |A nice spot to stop when traveling north or south. More...

Lunch with a friend. Nice and pleasant environment. Attentive staff offerred seating options for our dining as both bistro and restaurant very busy on our arrival; a spot between both suited us well. Menu variety included; sandwiches, and new October Menu and daily offer. My companions opted for a soup starter which she says went down well and pleasing to her palette whilst for me, salmon with celeriac. It was light, tasty with a refreshing zingy hit on my taste buds.. Do try it!. The Seabass with Pesto, we both ordered, and unilaterally agreed it being exceptional..||Dessert.. again both chose the same dish of bread and butter pudding which was light proportionate custard, and seasonal blackberries. One I would suggest you make a trip to. You will enjoy great food, and lovely hospitality. More...

It's been 10 years since we were last here and it hasn't lost any of its charm .service was unassuming friendly charming.|My American guest loved it and after being escorted upstairs to our table we relaxed and ordered . The chicken liver pate was Devine, my steak cooked perfectly each element had flavour and so well presented .|On to dessert I had the pear and I can honestly say it was simply the best meal me and my friends have ever eaten. Thankyou to the chef waitress and barman for giveing us a night to remember . More...

This is our favourite place to eat, and has been for over 30 years. It was then, not difficult to decide where to go for my birthday lunch. They have an excellent bar menu, which includes gluten free and vegan choices. There is everything to admire when eating at the Bell; efficient service, delicious food, and a cosy bar with a roaring log fire. If you haven't eaten here, you won't be disappointed. More...

We stayed at the Bell Inn as we were attending a wedding locally and had booked as quite a few of the family were also staying so it made sense - really glad we did too! I do have a few small niggles and only because it's not the cheapest hotel so expectation was high. There were no plug sockets near the bed at all. In todays tech-based world we all need to have our phones charging and want them next to us (i use mine for my morning alarm), so when its 15 feet away because that's the only plug available - I find this not acceptable these days. We couldn't locate the shaver socket in the bathroom. The wonderfully helpful reception girl pointed out that it's because it was on the side on the mirror. No sign to say this and also it was next to the wall so virtually impossible to plug in to - that's just bad design and planning and very annoying. At breakfast we had the smallest jug of milk to share between 4 people and then the coffee arrived pretty cool. We had to ask for more milk and a new jug of coffee which, in fairness, was hot and tasty (but shold have been like this first time!). Our food arrived in reasonable time but we'd asked for sauces and toast to accompany it. We were told they were coming shortly. We waited for ages but our food was getting cold so we had to start eating without them. They eventually arrived after we'd had to ask once more for them but we'd nearly finished our food by then - disappointing. The shower was pretty weak - warm but just a dribble really. Again, these are small and petty things I'm picking up on, but I would not be bothered if this was some cheap and cheerful budget Travel Lodge kind of place, but a fantasic hotel like this should do better for the money we paid. ||Now onto the good things, and there are many. Overall, the hotel is excellent. Full of history and character, facilities are generally great, there's an welcoming bar and the rooms are spotlessly clean with all the amenities you'd expect (TV, tea/coffee/kettle/hairdryer/wardrobe space etc). The double bed we had was very, very comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. So, overall the Bell Inn is somewhere I would recommend and we'd definitely stay here again if we were in the area. Shame I couldn't give it 5 stars. I like to be very honest about reviews and point out any faults I see, however small and petty, and hopefully the hotel manager will read this and take action - it really wouldn't take much effort, but it would be so worth it!||P.S. Please don't be put off staying here - it really is excellent and recommended! More...

We booked the Bell Inn well in advance as after visiting other venues it was easily our daughters favourite. We all thought the area at the top of the restaurant was perfect for having a birthday evening meal with close family (around 12) . Although we did have some misunderstandings concerning the menus prior to the evening these were dealt with in a very friendly and professional manner by Katie & Emma on reception. || Although our guests chose quite a variety off the menu we were all very happy with the quality, taste and presentation. We were allowed to visit early in the day and decorate it to our liking which was a nice touch. Just on a cautionary note if you do have elderly relatives there are steep stairs up to this part of the restaurant.|| The food was served by a friendly attentive staff with just about the right timings between courses.|| Thank you once again to the Bell Inn for giving us a lovely 21st birthday celebration. Quirky hotel and B&B, rooms slightly dated, but the people, food and bar area are really nice. Have visited a couple of times, during the autumn. The courtyard area looks like it could be really amazing during the summer. Will be back again. More...

Having stayed here myself a couple of years ago, for some time I have wanted to bring my wife along, so at long last, we had the opportunity to stay at the Bell for 2 nights. As before, first impressions upon arrival were "wow", what a fantastic building. We were greeted by a very friendly and helpful receptionist. Our room was well presented, scrupulously clean and comfortable, though on occasions, sound proofing between rooms could possibly be improved.||||The "journey" to the restaurant is fascinating for those interested in history and the view of an original spiral staircase is intriquing. Meals both nights were absolutely first class and could not be faulted.||||The only minor adverse point for my wife and I, was that the bed was slightly harder than we prefer. However, it would be impossible for the hotel to be able to cater for every patrons preferences and for other guests, the bed would have been perfect.||||We departed this morning (27 Sep) with of course, our supply of the inevitable Bell Blue (Stilton) cheese.
