This is a nice little (or actually quite grand) place. A friendly reception and spotlessly clean and comfortable room. The location is also fabulous, set in some stunning countryside and with grounds in which you can relax in the sunshine. ||||The room was very dated, though. I don't actually think this is a problem but the wallpaper in Room 4 does need some attention. And it would be good to have all the information for the room in one place rather than lots of little notices about hot water, WiFi password etc. stuck up all over the place.||||That all said, I would have no hesitation in returning. My partner and I, with our dog, camped for 4 nights in the gardens of South Allington House. ||The grounds were gorgeous, and peaceful and due to the time of year, really quiet. It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. There was a small area for washing up, with the use of fridge/freezers and shower/toilet block. These were pretty rustic but clean enough. ||Although you could have breakfast at the manner house and cream tea, it’s not something we did, so we can’t comment. ||We traveled out every day to places like Hope Cove, Strete Beach (dog friendly) and Dartmouth Castle where we had the most amazing Cream Tea!||We would highly recommend staying here. South Allington House isn't just B&B! I have just spent the weekend here with 32 family and friends for a 30th birthday celebration. The self catering cottages are excellent - clean and spacious. The grounds are very well maintained and large enabling us to play outdoor games galore. We had a large party BBQ (BBQs provided by the owners). Great for walking, or driving and walking. For me one of the highlights were the fantastic owners, Nick and Barbara who were great hosts and couldn't do enough for us. Also thanks to Edward who looked after us so well. We're experienced campers and have found this to be one of our new favourite sites. The grounds and the house are beautiful and set within an inspiring rural valley. ||||The camping facilities are basic but totally adequate for the size and location of the site and spotlessly cleaned every morning. This is a back-to-basics site but for those who still like to keep their drinks chilled (communal fridge-freezer), and have access to the outside world (free wifi available in the main house).||||This is a family-friendly site but not in a way that spoils the experience for couples without children. Very clean, comfortable accommodation with large grounds, a joy for the children to run around in. We would highly recommend this venue for anybody wanting a family holiday, but if you are good walkers you might find it especially attractive as there is a beautiful footpath leading to the South Devon Coast Path about 2 miles away - no need to use the car. We have just returned from a couple of nights camping at Allington House, we were lucky enough to have the campsite to ourselves! Wonderful views and a really lovely area.||Would just like to say that although the showers and facilities were good, I felt it could do with a facelift or updating, also a good clean. The showers were damp, very mouldy and floor tiles dirty, there was a razor, and bottles of shower gel, shaving foam left behind by previous campers just left on the side of the sinks. (obviously hadn't been cleaned since last people had left. We didn't mind the basic outdoor shelter that the facilities were in, just thought that it could have been a bit more inviting and above all clean. ||Also would like to add that as dog lovers, and also having our own dog there and abiding by the rules of cleaning up after our dog, and also keeping her under control, we did not like the fact that there was quite a lot of dog poo around the campsite field, we were also visited by a small jack russell type dog who proceeded to foul right in front of our tent and then mark his territory against our tent. It seems a shame that not everyone staying at this house had the same standards of being in control of their dog. More...
