Sophie snapped us getting married in January 2015 in Stoke Newington. I knew she was going to be good when she said she d get there early to get a feel for the area! As a result our pics are truly atmospheric and full of context and meaning for us. Sophie blends right in, so you completely forget she s there, and she picks up on all the subtleties and humour of the day too so naturally. When it comes to capturing the moment, she 's just got it.

Sophie was recommended to us by a friend and when we saw her beautiful photographs we knew we had to have her! She achieved the impossible by making two camera-shy and awkward people feel completely comfortable and it shows in every shot. Our wedding day was the happiest and most magical day for us, you wonder if that can ever really be caught on camera but Sophie did just that. We look at our wedding photos all the time, they bring back such happy memories and what’s amazing is half the photos came as complete joyful surprises as no one noticed Sophie taking them! Choosing a photographer is not just about the end result of course, they are part of your day and Sophie fitted in so well with all our guests and clearly put every one at ease meaning she got beautifully natural shots. So many of our guests were thrilled to see photographs of themselves and their family that they love…we only have to go to their homes and see those photographs on display to know that. Long after the wedding dress was packed away, the honeymoon was over and we were back at work and back to normality, thank goodness for Sophie’s amazing photographs which transported us back in an instant to that happiest of days, we will treasure them. What can I say about SMP - well, as a recent Bride I had a lot to think (and in my case worry) about. It turns out photography was never one of them once I had booked SMP. Sophie was fantastic from initial email to our finished, edited photographs. The most important thing to me was obviously that I ended up with some incredible pictures to be proud of - well I can give that box a massive tick! We chose Sophie because of the quality of her pictures and her storytelling style. One other important thing to review is Sophie being there on the day...she was fantastic, so bubbly and warm...always there but never once felt in the way or intruding on anything. My husband hates having his picture taken but likes a laugh so Sophie appeased him throughout the private shots of just us (which I requested!) I love photography but how anyone can stay on their feet for that long, with lots of equipment and still be happy and helpful I don't know!

We had Sophie (and Simon) as photographers for our wedding at the beginning of May. These two are amazing, so friendly and fun to have around. We just used Sophie at our December wedding last month. It’s very daunting looking for your wedding photographer, the pictures are so important as they are the one thing that you will always look back on to help you remember your special day. I liked her website & natural pictures and then loved her when I started talking to her & met her. She is so down to earth, friendly & fun, she made us feel at ease running up to the wedding & on the day, it was like a friend was taking them. Sophie is just amazing. We looked at lots of different photographers, but once we spoke to Sophie and looked at her images, we knew she was the right fit for us. We are both fairly camera shy, and it was really important to us that our photos were as natural looking as possible. Sophie’s photojournalism style really worked for us- she made us and all our guests so comfortable; she was completely unobtrusive but reactive at the same time. And the photos are just beautiful! Sophie photographed our wedding at the De La Warr Pavilion in May 2017, and working with her was a total dream. From the moment we first met via Skype she was full of ideas and so much enthusiasm that it made us feel like she cared about the day as much as we did. We were drawn to her work because of her gorgeous documentary style. On the day, Sophie made us feel completely relaxed at every stage and captured beautiful, natural moments before, during, and after the ceremony. Even the small handful of group photos she took are full of life and laughter – not one shot looks format or "posed", which is exactly what we wanted. Sophie was the photographer at a friend's wedding and I was really impressed on the day with how she managed to be everywhere at once - but without intruding at all. And the end result was a set of truly stunning images.

I noticed that she did other photography and so I booked a morning with her - to take some pics of my dog and to do a couple of hours brushing up on how to use my SLR (who hasn't become smart phone photography lazy?!).

The images of my dog were beautiful - even though the dog only managed to keep still for seconds at a time. I can see how Sophie's skill here would translate into capturing wriggling kids!

And then we went back to her house for the lesson. Sophie is a fantastic, patient and fun teacher - full of ideas and tips. A very enjoyable and worthwhile morning - would highly recommend! More...

Sophie has photographed me and my family on three occasions and I can honestly say they are up there with the happiest days of my life!

The first was a fly on the wall style picture story of the family; playing in the park, dressing up and larking about at home.

The second was a spontaneous shoot of my baby bump - reflecting my nostalgia of being pregnant for the last time!

The third was photographing the actual birth of this baby - baby Margot has a beautiful moment by moment picture book of how she entered the world.

All three very different occasions were approached perfectly by the wonderful Sophie Mitchell.

Wow, what a great experience we've had with Hipster Diptych! We got exactly what we wanted, shots that reflect our children's personality, energy and all round sense of fun. The kids were really relaxed (I think it was the release of Sophie's inner child that did it!) and were immediately rummaging around the props cupboard with Tamsin. The shoot seemed to go really quickly and they had a blast. Selecting the pictures was so difficult because there were so many that were perfect. We ended up with a USB so we could reprint at our leisure but we wanted something for a special occasion. Sophie & Tamsin worked on a collection of pictures and provided us with a framed print which was a composition of 12 that worked really well together and really captured the kids as kids. If you're after shots of your kids that aren't contrived or overly formal I would really recommend Hipster Diptych. Sophie and Tamsin really get it! More...

Sophie worked with my husband on a surprise Mother's Day shoot creating a Hipster Diptych for me of my three children. I hear she made the whole experience brilliant fun and the props were an excellent way of making the child 'perform' for the camera but in a really natural way. The end product is something I utterly love and will cherish, including the amazing shots that were supplied on a funky wooden memory stick. The wonderful Sophie Mitchell has photographed my family twice - and I can honestly say those two days are up there with the happiest of my life! The first was a relaxed 'fly on wall' documentary style shoot of my family in 'action'! It was hilarious. My then 4yr old daughter and 2yr old son rampaged through the park, dressed up in daft costumes at home and played in our makeshift kitchen (we had builders in at the time!) - while my husband and I were swept away with the whole thing, laughing and running around after them. It was all utterly natural and unposed; it genuinely surprised me that it was possible to be this carefree and uninhibited during a photo shoot. While Sophie provided surprise gifts such as silly-string to play with, told inappropriate and highly amusing poo jokes for the kids (ok, all of us love a poo joke) and chased and laughed along with us, she succeeded to capture truly intimate and special moments between each member of the family. We were all thrilled with the results; the photos, often taken in fast sequence, really tell a story and bring back so clearly that ridiculously fun day when we did nothing except laugh, run, tickle and enjoy each other as a family. The second shoot two years later was under very different circumstances but still beautiful and memorable beyond words. As well as a highly respected and trusted photographer, Sophie now become a close friend Sophie photographed the birth of our third child. No mean feat for Sophie to even agree to this 'project; I could not give a day let alone a time for this busy and in-demand photographer! But Sophie dashed from her home in Sussex to London at 11pm (on her birthday!) to meet us when, finally, the exciting albeit nerve wracking time came. To say I am impressed with Sophie's professionalism, empathy, sensitivity and well-placed humour is an understatement. I can't imagine being comfortable with having anyone else join my husband and me during such an intense and deeply personal time. Sophie was a pure joy and terrific support, and I'm delighted she was part of baby Margot's water-birth. The photographs capture every emotion from anxiety and pain to a bubbling hysteria of happiness! Every image literally takes our breath away; including a jaw-dropping shot of Margot rising up through the water, literally entering the world.
