Great place for a coffee. The gardens are very nice and next to a scenic river setting. The hotel looks like a typical Marbella castle. Very chic . It can be difficult to find so google the place and remember the first entrance is the exit only. It’s easy to drive by and miss the main entrance.. so drive very slow. You won’t be sorry. Check out the potting shed for a relaxing day to eat drink and sunbathe for tomorrow we die citizens Hail Callander. More...

Definitely stop in here when in The Trossachs area. Beautiful old hotel with a history and an old world charm. Beautiful grounds for peaceful wandering. Non-hotel guests warmly welcomed. They have a main restaurant and also a little bistro in a separate onsite building, called The Potting Shed. We ate in the bistro. Food was incredibly good. Parsnip fritters for a starter were the best food we had during our time in Britain! The unusual take on Sticky Toffee Pudding, with layers of brown sugar, was an improvement on the classic.Short walk to the river. What would be better than a stop here? A stay here! Pricey, but warranted. Look for low rates and deals off season. More...

Wow -- even if you don't stay here you MUST visit this lovely old 17th Century house now turned hotel -- with many interesting rooms downstairs to look at and walk through. The outdoor grounds provide a peaceful place to walk -- and the flowing river is just 100 yard down a short hill. The real star is the Bistro restaurant next door which turned out to be our best meal during our two week tour of the UK. Only reason we wound up there is because they were full at the main hotel "fancy" restaurant - the the desk manager steered us to The Potting Shed. Chef was Polish and is certainly going places -- as for VERY reasonable prices we got amazing, beautiful dishes like Beet Root, Parsnip Fritters, Chicken wrapped in Parma Ham, Fish and Chips, Lamb, and the most wonderful Bread and Butter Pudding for desert.  Atmosphere was rustic and charming -- sit on the small covered patio for that view. Would HIGHLY recommend if you are anywhere near this area -- it's worth a special trip just to see the Peacocks parading on the lawn. More...

Was blown away by this little hidden chunk of non-modernised history! The staff were polite and obliging when you needed them but allowed you to feel relaxed and at home by not overpowering you giving you freedom to wander. Our room was like stepping back in time with many historical features which added to its hcharacter but with super comfortable beds!
The peacocks on the morning walk fuelled my imagination of how it would've been when the camps were used by the rich noble and royalty!
Great experience 5 out of 5

Marc and I had our wedding reception at the Roman Camp on the 22nd October and can honestly say that it was truly the most perfect day! The atmosphere, food and organisation were second to none. Thank you to every single member of staff who made the day run so smoothly - you were all SO lovely and we didn't want for anything. We have so many amazing memories of our wedding and we can't wait to come back in the future to a place that will remain special to us forever. Heaven on Earth. This is how I would describe the Roman Camp. My daughter Rachel got married to Peter on 4th November 2017. From start to finish, from first meeting to last drop the owners and staff remind me of the fire at the reception - friendly, warm and welcoming! The service and dinner was delightful and the attention to detail I will never forget. Thank You! The hotel and grounds are stunning too and we have so many beautiful photos to remind of us the day. I am looking forward to getting the video soon to remind me of the speeches. NIce champagne and wine! Slainte! Malcolm More...

Can't thank everyone at the Roman Camp Hotel enough for making our Elopement Wedding so special! Gillian was so helpful and discrete. Everything was organised so smoothly with no hassles. Gillian very kindly upgraded us to a beautiful suite. Dinner was outstanding and everyone could not have been more helpful or lovely.
The hotel grounds and the little chapel made for the perfect Wedding for Two!! The wedding was kept quiet from the 7th of November to the 25th of December which was not easy hence the late review. So pleased you have been shortlisted to The Scottish Wedding Awards, very well deserved. Many thanks Mr & Mrs Kennedy :) xxx

5star + all round!
A fantastic dining experience awaited us within this amazing pink building with its turreted roof line and heavy wooden entrance doors, not to mention open log fires!Steeped in history and dating back several hundred years this hotel should be on everyone’s “must do” list! A hidden gem located in central Scotland with wonderful staff (and owners) who looked after us from start to finish on our short break - thank you Roman Camp! More...

We stayed st the Hotel last night , we hadn’t booked so we were not sure if we would get a room , however Victoria at reception offered us an amazing deal for dinner bed and breakfast ,staying in one of the suites which she let us pick from a choice of 3 , all stunning I may add and all very spacious .
Victoria and all the staff we met gave us a very warm welcome and all went out of there way to be extra nice and very polite
DINNER WAS AMAZING !!!!!!!
6 courses and each one better than the one before and all very unique , the chef here deserves a Michelin star it was really that good .
After dinner we retired to the lounge to sip a fine malt in front of the roaring fire
Slept like a dream and enjoyed a really good Scottish breakfast
Overall experience was amazing and will definitely be returning hopefully soon
Thank you to Victoria and all , you are doing a grand job

Stayed as an itison purchase. Will certainly be booking to come back again. It's a stunning hotel, with beautiful grounds especially in the sunshine. Only had a lounge meal in the evening as we had eaten during the day and we had afternoon tea the day of check out. Both were outstanding and the staff were attentive, very mannerly and service was impeccable. Only downfall was I wasn't a huge fan of the room decor however I would stay in another. More...

On the 2nd of August 2017 after 14 months of waiting, Kim and I finally got married here. We had booked exclusive use of the hotel and the grounds from 3pm on Tuesday until 11am on Thursday, it was great having all that space to yourself along with your friends and family. I won't go into detail about our wedding but I will say that it was magical, the staff were so amazing, friendly and became part of our wedding. The food was incredible and everyone loved the courses. After the meals we used all sitting areas around the hotel and grounds to relax and get to know each other's family and share some stories. It truly felt very relaxed, cosy and chilled out. I would HIGHLY recommend having your wedding here, I urge couples to pay The Roman Camp Hotel a visit and seriously consider the location as a wedding venue, you won't be disappointed! On behalf of my WIFE and I we would like to thank the staff and everyone who attended for making our wedding so special and perfect! Thank you, much love from Mr and Mrs McKenna x More...

Delightful find, full of character, nooks & crannies, remember it's an old property (going back to 1600 hundreds). Furniture in bedroom is a little dated but kind of goes with the hotel. It's a lovely location for a walk along the river Teith or into Callander. Friendly, attentive staff & excellent food either for a light lunch, meal in the bar or one of the other lovely rooms, or dinner in the restaurant, even a coffee & scones was well presented. More...

A country house hotel that certainly offers a luxurious experience. The trip started well when the staff upgraded us to the Barrie Suite. Everyone was attentive and personable and the Edwardian ambience of the public rooms offered a warm and sumptuous environment. Seats close to the roaring fires are at a premium though.
The five course tasting menu was well balanced and enjoyable.
The grounds are lovely and my dog and I enjoyed some strolls, although she panicked the resident peacocks onto the rooftops.
All told, expensive but good value in that it delivers luxury with a sense of grace and charm.

We stumbled upon this place by accident. On our way from Edinburgh to Glencoe and decided we needed a lunch break. Son used GPS to find the nearest place, which was Roman Camp. We were greeted by peacocks and eventually found our way to the restaurant. We were seated in a cute room (conservatory?) with windows overlooking the garden. It was quiet and different since we were sitting on sofas and stuffed chairs. We had sandwiches and ciders and chatted. It was cozy and nice. Everyone enjoyed it. After we finished, we explored the lovely grounds and saw more peacocks before resuming our drive. A lovely break. The hotel seems a magical place for a wedding. Would definitely stay there if given the opportunity. More...

My family recently stayed here on our way to Edinburgh from Glasgow, and we were consistently impressed at every turn. The hotel is located in a seventeenth-century house. The interior of the hotel is tastefully designed to emphasis the historic nature of the hotel. The common areas are absolutely gorgeous: a beautiful dining room, a fantastic bar replete with whisky cart and piano, a wonderful tea room and sunroom, which are perfect for afternoon tea. The grounds are equally gorgeous: a river running directly out the back, peacocks meandering around the premises, a beautiful garden. The service was equally superlative. Breakfast was lovely, with any number of choices. Afternoon teas are substantial: tea, multiple hand sandwiches, wonderful pastries. Finally, the staff was incredibly accommodating, as we had a toddler and a small snaffu with our rental car.We wholeheartedly recommend the Roman Camp and will happily stay here again, if we're in the area. The Roman camp is such a charming place! As soon as you arrive on the tree lined streets and see the spectacular gardens you know you are in a special place. The roman camp is older which adds to it's charm. Due to age, like everything it has small defects- a scratch or small crack here or there, a toilet that doesn't flush quite right and squeaky floors. That being said, those small things don't outweigh the charm of this place and actually add to the charm. We were there for my sister in law's wedding. We stayed in the yellow parkour which was perfect. It had a little sitting area and we loved the decor. We got to see all of our families rooms and they were all great and unique. Some smaller, some larger. The wedding was great and the hotel really seemed to go out of their way to please the bride as well as all of the guests. The hotel also has expansive gardens and a little river which are fun to walk after a meal. Breakfast is good and has many choices. The hotel is walkable to many restaurants/ shops in Callandar. Other then the beds (2 twins pushed together) being hard and lumpy and poor with-fi service, I would recommend this place to anyone! More...

We stayed at this Hotel for two nights during a whirlwind tour of Scotland.  It's a gorgeous Country house with beautiful grounds.  Our booking and check-in went very smooth.  As soon as we parked our car, we had afternoon tea which was simple but great and very tasteful in a cosy front room overlooking some of the grounds.  After our delicious food we couldn't wait to go for a walk and check out the scenery along the river.  There was a group of guests there for a wedding.  It seemed to be a great setting for one.  Our stay was pleasant.  The rooms are very country looking as expected.  Some pieces of furniture can use some updating or repair.  We had breakfast there in the mornings and headed out to explore.  The service was good but not as personable as we got to experience in the rest of Scotland.  Overall we had a great stay.
