I first worked with Olley Design when they designed a booklet in memory of a dear friend who died young. I have worked for many years with various designers but I was immediately impressed. Not only are they very creative and imaginative but they also respect financial restraints and time deadlines - an unusual and very welcome combination! They immediately understood the spirit of the rather vague brief, took it away and returned with something far more special than we'd ever anticipated, with every page of the booklet designed afresh, appropriate to the text on that page and reflective of my late friend's personality. What makes a great website?
Less is more, so think about content – do you really need a dozen pages in your website?
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Where have you got to already with your thinking? What makes your business different from your competitors?
What information do you need from a client before you start work?
A lot of detailed background is useful. How did you start? What drives you and your business/organisation? Where do you want to get to in 1 year, 5 years, 10?
What sorts of printing projects do you usually cater for?
All types! From 50 business cards to thousands of brochures, postcards to packaging .
Describe your creative process.
We work in stages – initial sketches, more finished designs, fine-tuning a chosen design, finished artwork including any photography or illustration, finally proofing, print and production.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
A clear brief is always helpful, but a client may find it helpful to chat their requirements through with us before before finalising this. We are always happy to discuss a project and help a potential client work through things.
What do you love most about your job?
We've always enjoyed the creative process. Even when we are not working we are often making stuff, like pottery or knitting!
What inspired you to start your own business?
Initially, the freedom and the aim of being in creative control.
