When you travel a lot, it's hard to put your finger on what makes a place extra special and unforgettable. Oak House #1 does it all. Nicola and Gary cared for my partner and me long before our arrival. I was proposed to during the weekend stay, and they helped to concoct a beautiful surprise for me! (Very clever.) Aside from that, the house is stylish, comfortable, impeccable and clean, every piece of eclectic art has a narrative and a story, Nic and Gary offer generous and fulfilling food, local travel advice, attention to detail and to guest needs, good humor, and their own stories of global travels. They knit together a feeling of cheerful community among the guests, not too much, not too little. We tell everyone about Oak House and can't wait to go back. More...

We wanted somewhere extra special to celebrate a birthday and through our detailed UK searches found the Koh-i-Noor of boutique hotels, which just so happened to be in part of the country we adore, Tetbury. And what a gem of an establishment this turned out to be - made all the more special by the splendid couple that run it. Oak House and its owners Gary & Nicola are simply magical - No 1 it most certainly is. More...

Gary and Nicola are truly wonderful hosts and they’ve created a B&B to remember. We stayed in the Prince’s suite which was very comfortable. Next time I think I would opt for the Cavalier Suite with it’s totally separate sitting room but either way the furnishings and artwork are tasteful, intriguing, and enjoyable. If you’re worried, it’s not over the top. It is cosy, warm, inviting, upscale, yet informal. The furnishings were collected by Nicola and Gary during their wide ranging travels. There is a very pleasant garden out back which we saw but didn’t take advantage of. Very, very comfortable beds. If you do stay here you won’t soon forget it!||Specifics: your GPS may be confused. Park in the Chippings car park. Oak House fronts on it but don’t worry. Once you enter the front door you’ll quickly forget the car park. Oak House is literally steps from High Street. Right now The Close Hotel (less than a block away) is the place to eat. We had tea (wine) in their garden which is another great story. Oak House doesn’t have a liquor license but there is an excellent wine store literally next door. More...

This was a really difficult one to rate. The place is lovely - very interesting, a bit quirky, and with a very impressive collection of art all over the house. The hosts are delightful - the charismatic Gary and the delightful Nicola were chatty, amiable, interesting and helpful. Nicola’s baking is wonderful, and the breakfasts were fabulous. ||So why am I not awarding this place 5 stars? Well, there was the small matter of the hot water not working ie there was no hot water! Fair play to Gary and Nicola - they were upfront from the start (not that they could have hidden it for long!), they were clearly embarrassed, and they did their best to compensate by boiling up pans of water in the old-fashioned way. But giving a reasonably expensive hotel/B&B five stars when there was no hot water just wouldn’t be right. But the real downer for me came at the end, when we left, when we were offered, by way of compensation, to come back in the future at a 50% discount. Given that we had suffered the (not inconsiderable) drawback of no hot water on this visit, we thought that it wasn’t really on to ‘defer’ the compensation gesture to some future occasion (especially when we don’t live nearby). We said that we weren’t really happy with that, and, in fairness to them, Gary and Nicola swiftly offered a perfectly fair discount of £100 from this visit, but it just rankled that their first offer had been such a poor one. It left us with a bit of a sour taste in our mouths - which was a pity, really, because in all other respects it was a great experience. More...

We recently stayed at Oak House No1 for a joint birthday getaway and if you are looking for something beautiful, charming and full of character, look no further. ||Gary and Nicola greet you with warmth and enthusiasm, charming and attentive hosts who will chat anecdotally for hours with you, or leave you chill in one of the cosy rooms if you are after some down time. ||The house is a stunning gallery of breathtaking art and unique furniture from designers and artist from all over the world. They have cleverly and meticulously curated every piece to be celebrated in all it's glory. ||We stayed in the Cavalier suite which has 3 rooms, a gorgeous and comfortable bedroom with 4 poster bed, a relaxing sitting room (the library) and a huge bathroom with walk in shower and separate bath. Like the rest of the house, the attention to detail in this suite was sublime (I could have locked myself away in the suite for the duration of our stay). ||We enjoyed a beautiful home cooked afternoon tea prepared by Nicola - piece of advice, arrive hungry because the portions are so generous and the food is too good to leave any. Breakfast is even more generation with fruits, yoghurts, cereals, pastries and then a cooked main which really does set you up for the day. ||We went for a drive around the Cotswolds to take in the sites and local attractions, Gary and Nicole kindly gave us a list of suggested places to visit and we made sure we did them all. ||Our stay was nothing short of perfection. A beautiful, clean and welcoming home, hosts who are committed to you having a perfect break and food to satisfy you for hours. ||It was a gorgeous break and we cannot wait to return in the future. A must if you are ever after a truly special break. ||Joff x More...

I've got to admit this is one of the nicest and most interesting places I have ever stayed! Went to the Cotswolds for a little birthday getaway and stayed at the glamorous Oak House No1 for 2 night in the Cavalier Suite. The house is beautiful, the hosts are so welcoming and such a good laugh, and the area is lovely just to have a little drive around and explore. You wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. The welcome we received from Gary and Nicola was warm and inviting . The passion and enthusiasm as hosts is evident in everything seen in this wonderful house . My husband and I only stayed one night but we will definitely return. We have been fortunate enough to travel and stay in many hotels around the world and this is certainly one of the best . The afternoon tea is a must - delicious scones and cakes ( we had to postpone dinner ! ) . and a fantastic breakfast in the luxurious dining room . Having stayed here last year , my Wife and I decided to visit again - it was an obvious choice. The hosts Nicola and Gary treat everyone so warmly and specially . They engage you and offer wonderful and helpful tips. Both are well travelled and there’s a good chance they have either been to the country you hail from or have someone close from that country.||The rooms are so homely , cozy and spacious. The living and dining rooms are amazingly decorated and full of strong colours - tastefully and very thoughtfully put together. ||Breakfast is a treat - apart from cereal , toasts, jams , juices and fruits , the hot items are simply delicious and generous in flavour and portions. ||The highlight if your time ( and tummy) permits is Nicola’s high tea spread. You need to let her know in advance so that she can prepare the meal- it’s doesn’t costs much and it’s worth it- one of the best I have had in the UK! ||Tetbury is a charming town , walkable and with some interesting shops. Although labelled as a B&B, this is a 5*+ luxury hotel where you are warmly greeted with open arms and treated as equals, where nothing is too much trouble. ||From the moment we were helped parking the car (they have their own parking spaces) to sadly having to leave (sent on our way with sweet goodies), the wonderful hosts - Gary and Nicola - cater to your every whim. They are no longer simply B&B owners, but life-long friends.||They welcome you into their beautiful home which is adorned with antiques, a fine art collection, not least Andy Warhol and Grayson Perry, and the many treasures purchased during their various trips, the stories of which are fascinating. The bedrooms are simply stunning with all mod cons mixed with old world charm - they have to be seen to be believed.||The afternoon tea was beautifully decorated, with everything being homemade of course - heaven! It certainly rivals all those teas that we have eaten before. The breakfast is served with every taste imaginable and the table is set for royalty - silver service all the way.||Thank you both for making my celebratory birthday weekend that much more special. Such a lovely house and part of the world. We were greeted by Gary and Nicola - who immediately made us feel at home - with one of the warmest receptions that I have experienced anywhere. Gorgeous rooms with a unique mix of art and charm. Such a sumptuous 4 poster bed, with our own private study and en-suite. The Cotswolds called us again for our third stay at Oak House No1. The moment||we pass through their door we are transported to an enchanting Aladdin's Cave delivering ultimate chic kissed by bohemian rhapsody. Our hosts Gary & Nicola offer you a private entree to their lifetime of travel, and designer passions which you are instantly swept up by. Greeted as life long friends rather than guests you feel that the party has just begun and believe me one or two nights is not enough. Each suite wraps you in unbridled luxury tempered by supreme comfort, including the silken indulgence of Frette Linens, Molton Brown toiletries and bath robes fit for a King. Apt really given that HRH Prince Charles' Highgrove House and Garden is just ten minutes drive away.||Their newly refurbished Cavalier Suite (comprising bedroom, library sitting room and a huge bathroom) features a four poster bed festooned in a silk canopy and bespoke bedspread which was eagerly embraced by 'his Lordship' who struggled to leave as did I. This suite also features a dazzling collection of Murano glassware and chairs designed by Mark Brazier Jones (Sir Mick Jagger has one or two pieces..). In summary, Oak House No1 is a destination in itself you will rave about as do we. Plus, it is located in the charming town of Tetbury in the heart of the Cotswolds where the dream of England is yours to savour. More...

Words are not sufficient to describe this spectacularly beautiful house or the extremely welcoming and fascinating hosts, Nicola & Gary. Everything is so extremely beautiful and so enriched with culture and history that you need at least a week just to process just one corner of the home! Afternoon tea and breakfast were absolutely delicious and Nicola very kindly packed us the remnants of our meals that we couldn't finish purely because we were too spoilt for choice! Every single review you may have read about this place and the hosts are so beyond true and yet so lacking because words cannot do justice to the haven that was provided to us for the weekend. My Wife and I have stayed in several BnBs and hotels in the UK. Standards vary , some are value for money ,some fall far short. Oak House No 1 is in our humble view , the best ! |It's a bit hard to locate because there's no large signage - just a well trimmed hedge , a simple black gate and an understated metal plate above the blue front door announcing the location. There is a large car park in front of the house and parking is provided. It's next to the Chipping Court. |When you enter the House , it's anything but understated - it's like stepping into an art decor museum! Lovely bold Colours, fascinating art works and furniture. There's a touch of Dali , Picasso and modern art. |The living room is a lovely blue theme , the dining room a bold red and green combination- most tastefully done . ||We were greeted by Nikola and Gary- we knew immediately that this would be a warm and hospitable stay-they were so helpful and eager to Ensure our comfort. |Nikola made us some sandwiches and soup after our long journey as we didn't want to go out for dinner - these were the best and freshest sandwiches we have had - gobbled down the whole lot- and the soup as well!||Our Prince room was large, extremely clean With classic furniture and a big bathroom. The bed was large and comfortable too. The bathroom is warm and you won't shiver as you step out from the shower. Cupboard space is adequate. You can make coffee, tea and hot chocolate drinks and fresh milk is also provided in the room. |Breakfast is an event not to be missed - a very good selection of fruits , breads , delicious jams, cereals , 2 juices , muffins and a selection of hot items which are prepared on the spot. What makes it special is our hosts' company as they chat and provide useful suggestions for your day. Very good and helpful tips!|We had a high tea- Nikola baked the cakes and scones , and made the sandwiches. Nicola's high tea should be ranked in the TOP 10 in the UK - it's so good!! The sandwiches - which we had 2 nights before|, tasted just as delicious , the cakes were fresh , not too sweet and moist . We pigged out . The high tea is a must - just like The wonderful|Art pieces on the walls , this is Nicola's masterpiece . |What makes the House truly No 1 is Gary and Nikola- they are the heart and soul of this BnB. It's not a business , it's a passion for them. Their attention to detail , enthusiasm, stories about their travels and adventures and just overall warmth made our stay so wonderful. They made us feel like family ! If you are inclined to engage with them and share stories , it's an enriching and joyful experience. |There are only 3 rooms - and perhaps this is also how they manage to maintain such a high standard of comfort , hospitality and warmth. |This is THE BnB to stay in the Cotswolds!|This is my longest review to date , but anything shorter would have been an injustice to Gary and Nikola, and Oak House No 1. Well done and thank you both for a lovely and endearing stay. More...

My partner and I recently stayed at Oak House No.1 for three nights, and we loved every moment. We’ve stayed at a lot of beautiful places over the years but I can honestly say we’ve never been anywhere like Oak House No. 1 – the whole house is a work of art. I have a reputation amongst my friends for always seeking out alternative places to stay, eat and drink. My long-suffering husband allows me to indulge my passion for “quirky, alternative and what were you thinking? ” every year for my birthday. What can I say about this year’s find – Oak House No 1? Wow, wow and mega wow.||It is the most beautiful house owned by the very beautiful Gary and Nicola, a home full of treasures that tells the story of their colourful life. If only I could live in such a gem. If you are an interior design/art lover then this is the place to go. ||We stayed in the Cavalier Suite which is very spacious and full of amazing things and that is an understatement. I cannot recommend this suite enough. We had a gorgeous afternoon tea complete with candles in a slice of cake in honour of my birthday, such a thoughtful touch. Oak House No 1 is in a Grade 2 Listed building in the heart of Tetbury. The predictable review of English B & B ends there. Upon arrival the front door flys open and you are greeted with the beaming smiles of owners Gary and Nicola. In an instant you realise this place is special. Your eyes rest upon their eclectic and significant art works which adorn every room. The large suites you stay in offer bespoke luxury and the promise of a glamourous experience few 5 star hotels achieve. The interiors reveal ||a fusion of contemporay chic alongside custom made English textiles and furnishings.||Every thing you would wish for in a stay they have thought of already from heated towel rails to fresh milk in the fridge, Frette linen, armfuls of soft fluffy towels, Moltan Brown toiletries...etc. .I think you get the idea! After our long drive we were treated to||a sumptuous afternoon tea in their enchanting garden, and later we helped ourselves to a nip of cognac in the plush and gorgeous sitting room downstairs before heading out for dinner in town. Next morning our breakfast was cooked to order and was was perfection on a plate and presented with silver service at their magnificent dining table festooned with fresh flowers in crystal vases. We so enjoyed the delightful banter with our hosts whose own life story is captivating and such fun to hear. it is hardly surprising that you arrive as guests and leave feeling as friends which you are certain you want to see again. We dared not dream it was possible to find a B & B in England or anywhere frankly||that was so magical and memorable. From the moment we opened the door our||extraordinary hosts Nicola and Gary made us feel like returning dear friends. Their warmth, humour, kindness, and passion for life was infections and uplifting. This passion overflowed into the luxurious, eclectic and chic interiors which mirrored their own travelling lives and background in design, the arts and hospitality. The three rooms upstairs all with large indulgent bathrooms and are really more like suites, utterly private, quiet and suprememely comfortable. We were treated to a sumptuous afternoon tea served in their outdoor atrium looking out on the garden complete with a Balinese sculpture, and garden design that we much admired. The location is also within minutes of the centre of Tetbuy, and only five minutes drive from HRH Prince Charles home and||garden at Highgrove which we were fortunate enough to secure tickets to see. Lazy mornings are followed by breakfast served in a stunning dining room overhung with||chandaliers, and walls dripping with magnificent artworks from their private collection.||The downstairs living room with deep blue soft sofas and oriental rugs is a haven for||relaxation and a 'night-cap' and we only wished we had stayed for at least three or four nights instead of two. This special sanctuary is for discerning, authentic travellers who||cherish comfort, the joy of well travelled and sophisticated hosts which excude a genuine warmth that was a joy to experience. I have travelled extensively every year for nearly 40 years and Oak House No 1 is in the top three of any place I have ever stayed in. I would add the other two being a regular apartment stay in Paris with Guest Apartment Services Paris, and Huka Lodge on Lake Taupo in NZ. My wife & I decided to spend 5 days after our wedding in Cotswold. And we discovered this enchanted house hosted by two wonderfully friendly people: Gary and Nik. We were treated like kings all the way through, while living in an interior that has more of an art museum than a hotel. ||||It is by far the most extraordinary breakfast table I have ever seen and we would almost recommend sleeping there only for it! Having said that, you really feel at home in this place (a luxurious home!) and that adds a lot to the feelgood atmosphere. ||||If you happen to be in Tetbury or visiting Cotswold, don't miss out! We were welcomed into Nicola and Gary's beautiful townhouse for a couple of nights of rest and relaxation and loved everything! The Cavalier Suite, with its magnificent four poster bed, separate lounge and stunning bathroom, was really something to behold. You could, quite easily, spend the entire day enjoying the range of art or browsing the extensive bookshelf. And yet, Oak House No1 is positioned brilliantly for Cotswold exploration. Where to begin, From meeting your hosts, to the entire experience. Simply outstanding. Oak House is run by a wonderful couple who clearly are creative, genuine and have put together a business which so many could do with learning from. The House is divine and an inspiration. Only 3 suites and no children, this is the perfect place for romance or a special trip. From perfect beds, ambient lighting, fresh roses in the room and an exquisite breakfast, nothing is missing. Despite ambient lighting they have still managed to get the bathroom lighting right for applying make up.... this matters! I am looking forward to going back regularly. Its worth trying all 3 suites to find your favorite. The garden is peaceful and beautiful as well. You may need to ring to find it, as its very hit and miss with a sat nav. We stayed at Oak House No.1 as a special treat for my partners 40th almost two weeks ago now ….and we’re still smiling from the experience! What a spectacular treat - Oak House No.1 is one of the coolest places we have had the pleasure of staying. The house itself is exquisite, a treasure trove of style that envelopes you whilst keeping a wonderfully warm feeling of a ‘real’ home – which of course it is. And this is where the real style lays, in the owners Nicola and Gary. They made us feel so welcome and relaxed, they just got the balance so right – we could have spent hours chatting to them both and fussing Woody (the most adorable wire haired dachshund!). Nicola helped me arrange some special touches ahead of our arrival and made some suggestions to make sure my plans went off without a hitch – I can’t thank her enough, the evening was unforgettable! In addition to the house and hosts was the food, afternoon tea with warm scones and clotted cream and the breakfast, oh my word we have to agree with other guests, the black pudding is the best we have ever tasted. It really did feel like staying with friends. Oak House No.1 really is worth a visit, and if like us it is above your usual budget trust us you will not be disappointed! More...

Located in the Cotswolds in the stunning market town of Tetbury, Oak House No1 has pride of place located just off the main square. Once you pull up to the Georgian house you instantly fall in love and wait with anticipation of what is to come of your weekend that is ahead of you. Greeted at the door by Gary Kennedy and his beautiful wife Nicola you instantly feel the warmth of Oak House.||Gary and Nicola a very well-travelled couple who returned the U.K. after many years overseas with their son decided to lay down roots in this beautiful house. They have carefully renovated and tastefully decorated with items of furniture that they have owned and art that has come from all different corners of the world that in itself have stories behind them which make Oak House Number One so interesting yet decadent. ||Gary and Nicola have been able to create this environment where you feel calm and relaxed which is so hard to replicate with soulless, taupe coloured, stark white contemporary hotel accommodation that is so very popular today.||Instead you find yourself lost and transported in the different items that are on display throughout the house, whether this is in your beautiful suite, serene sitting room or the perfectly manicured garden located in the rear of the house. ||Owners Gary and Nicola clearly have a tale or two to tell and this is so evident just by spending a matter of a few moments chatting to them which makes you want to know more, swapping stories or just out of human nature and wanting to know more leaves you feeling so very inspired.||Whether you want to spend time with them or want to be left to your own devices is really what is so charming about this hotel, nothing is too much of an effort nor anything too big or too small for them. A restaurant recommendation to a fun filled day out is something that Gary and Nicola are very much in the know of.||My weekend spent here is something that I will remember for many reasons due to the fact I had the best night sleep that I could remember. Being set up with the best breakfast you could possibly wish for each morning, with carefully selected items on the wonderfully presented menus to the jaw dropping baked goods that Nicola creates from scratch in her afternoon tea selection, you are never hungry here.||Tetbury really speaks for itself as it is steeped in history but really ‘Oak House No1’ is the true crown jewel of the town, (I think HRH Prince Charles would be envious.) ||Once you step over the threshold of the beautiful façade of the property you really know why world renowned publication such as Conde Nast Traveller, Esquire Magazine China and Best Boutique Hotels of the World have constantly been attracted to this beautiful hotel.|| ||Thank you Gary and Nicola for a weekend to remember you truly have something that is special and unique.” More...

We visited last weekend and had the most relaxing time. Gary met us at the front door with a huge smile and a very warm welcome. Nicola closely followed. It was like arriving at somebody's house, the only difference was, they really made a point of making us feel they wanted us there. ||We were shown our room, and then another room and another room, we were then told all 3 rooms were ours. The bedroom was full of items acquired from their travels, with the finest taste. The drawing room had an enormous book shelf, some comfortable seating, a huge TV with sky and everything you could hope for. The bathroom is very modern and totally relaxing with huge fluffy gowns, a nice big deep tub and a shower big enough for two. ||We were served afternoon tea in our drawing room, it included loads of delicious cakes, we had to stop ourselves eating as we planned to go out for dinner that evening. ||The rest of the house is full of history and stories and very beautiful. ||The breakfast is not something we have ever experienced, what a feast and of the highest quality.. It's true what you read here about the black pudding, it's the best we've had. ||It's an amazing place to stay and the welcome we received is not something we'll forget quickly. ||Both Gary and Nicola are adorable and very friendly. ||We look forward to returning again real soon. As soon as we entered Oak House we had such a lovely warm greeting from both Gary and Nicola and what a house it is, an absolute credit to them, it's an old house with a charming modern twist - fantastic -. But most importantly it has a very homely feel to it which is very comforting and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was delicious, cooked by Gary and served on a beautiful laid breakfast table. It is difficult to top what has been said about this place. ||||We are not ones to write reviews and we have been fortunate to stay in some fabulous places over the years, but this truly was the best stay we have ever had. ||||The house is a place to admire; sophisticated and (seemingly) effortlessly considered, but absolutely homely and inspirational. You feel a wrench leaving because it feels like home .... Only a lot better.||||The breakfast was relaxed and delicious. There was no rush, no pressure, made with the most delicious fresh produce - my goodness the black pudding was something to behold - and delivered with elegance. ||||Afternoon tea was equally welcome with more cakes than you know what to do with.||||But above all that are the hosts...not hoteliers, because they are so much more than that. They were not only people who took a genuine interest but they were absolutely fascinating people. You can tell that from their house alone, but by talking to them you realise that it is just part of a brilliant journey they have taken. If you want inspiration in how to live, spend a little time with them.||||But at no point did Nicola, Gary or Woody intrude. Nicki and I needed a weekend away from renovating our house, somewhere we could relax and unwind. We didn’t want to stay in the conventional tired old dusty Cotswold Hotel, so I searched beyond the obvious, digging deeper until I found this little gem. I can tell you it was more than worth the effort!||||From the moment we arrived at the immaculate dark blue front door to be met by our equally immaculate bearded host Gary, we were whisked into an extravagant cornucopia of art, furnishings, colour, style, good taste, great food and excellent hospitality. The house was stuffed full of incredible antiques and artworks, every wall adorned with outrageous images that would feel equally at home in Tate Modern. If Keith Richards was the result of a debauched one-night stand between Andy Warhol and Freddie Mercury, then this is definitely the sort of amazing boutique private house hotel he would run.||||In the dining room the clash of vibrant colours - deep green walls butted up against bright lipstick red shouldn’t work, but it does – magnificently. The irreverent mix of the traditional juxtaposed against the contemporary is pulled off with aplomb. Mark Brazier chairs nuzzle against quality antiques, cut glass decanters and sparkling chandeliers, while Andy Warhol’s portrait of the Queen, homage to the fact we’re in her back yard - Tetbury, looks down upon the whole scene with an appreciative gaze. It’s testament to Gary’s years of training in Fine Art at St Martin’s that it all blends so brilliantly.||||Upstairs, the opulence just goes on and on. Our suite (The Cavalier) even had it’s own library; beat that Babington House! Afternoon tea - a welcoming pot of Earl Grey and a tray of the most seductive home made cakes by Gary’s equally talented partner Nicki, lay waiting for us as we sank into crisp Ralph Lauren sheets on a decadent four poster bed.||||Even breakfast the next morning at the communal dining table was a joy as Gary’s eye for artistic perfection also stretched to creating the perfect omelet, a feat only matched by the divine melt in the mouth Speyside black pudding.||||Massive thanks to both Gary and Nicki for being such amazingly brilliant and welcoming hosts, and for inviting us to share their beautiful home. We feel privileged to have experienced such a uniquely inspiring atmosphere and will certainly recommend Oak House No1 to everyone we know. Or maybe we won’t - we’ll keep it our secret so we can always be assured of a room!||||It truly is Baroque and Roll in the Cotswolds, and we'll definitely be back - just as soon as we can get rid of the kids again! Stayed for one night in the Princes Suite, for an evening supper at Highgrove, which is only a couple of miles away. This is Nicky and Gary's home and they make you very welcome - the house is extremely comfortable with an extensive and eclectic mixture of modern and traditional art and furnishings throughout. The room itself was spacious, warm and with a good modern bathroom, and a very comfortable four poster bed, and lovely views of the village square from the window. Nicky does the most amazing cooked breakfast - which will set anyone up for the entire day. Parking is convenient and right in front of the house in prebooked spaces. This is NOT a hotel - some previous reviews have bemoaned this - but it splendidly exclusive and its smaller size means that the level of service is first class. Not a particularly cheap overnight stay, but worth it for all these reasons and more. They have to be the greatest hosts ever and my wife and I had the most perfect stay, over 2 nights in the beautiful Garden Room. Everything you need is at hand, with great amenities in the bedroom and bathrooms. All the rooms have fantastic and eclectic decoration.||Afternoon tea was just what we needed after a 31/2 drive and boy was that a feast for the eyes.||Breakfast got even better and outstrips and London hotels, why can they never cook tomatoes and give you anaemic toast! Nicky's was stunning and yes the black pudding is a total revelation.||We had a perfect time left as great friends and said we'd be back at Christmas, but we may get there even before that so we can chill again More...

A stunning, one-of-a-kind hotel with an art collection that has to be seen to be believed. Everything, and I mean everything, about Oak House has been carefully thought through and works perfectly. The second you walk in it all just feels right. Gary and Nicola are charming, fascinating people who not only made us feel incredibly welcome but served us some truly beautiful food. The rooms are huge, luxurious, warm and unique, the beds are comfortable, and the location is ideal. We'll be back in the new year. I'm not sure what else to say - if you don't enjoy it here you probably ought to ask yourself some searching life questions!! It's awesome. More...

Absolutely stunning! The best B & B we have ever stayed in and Nicola and Gary are the perfect hosts making you feel at home straight away. We went there for our Anniversary and couldn't have been more thrilled with what we found. A real gem of a 'get away from it all' destination. Everywhere is beautifully decorated in an eclectic style with fabulous chandeliers and loads of artwork. Eating breakfast in their sumptuous Dining Room made us feel totally spoilt. Beautiful and unusual boutique B&B in the heart of Tetbury. The combination of the generous welcome from Nicky and Gary, delicious afternoon tea and relaxed atmosphere made for a perfect night away. We had a great night's sleep in a very comfortable bed, and in the morning shared a lovely communal breakfast with the interesting guests who had also been staying. We are really looking forward to returning for a second stay and are now wondering whether anywhere else will measure up, the bar has been set very high indeed. More...

It's taken a long time to write this review only for the reason that our stay at Oak House No 1 was just so good. Pretty difficult where to start when describing the unique experience that Gary and Nicola have established, everything from the eclectic decoration, the warm welcome when arriving, fabulous afternoon tea and wonderful breakfast all add to what is a unique experience. Oak House No 1 provides a perfect location for that romantic stolen night away or base to explore Tetbury and the surrounding area. When welcomed at the door on arrival by Nicola and Gary personally it set the tone for a greatly enjoyable, and very memorable stay in their beautiful hotel. It is hard to overpraise our hosts. Everywhere was spotless and tasteful. Our room was gorgeous - we slept like babies. The food beautiful. Even the gorgeous pictures can't convey the magic of Oak House No1. A truly delightful place run by the lovely Nicola and Gary who are possibly the happiest, most welcoming people I've ever met. Maybe it's something in the water - everyone in Tetbury was super friendly and the town has a very pleasant vibe. A stay at the Oak House No 1 is always indulgent, welcoming and eccentrically British. Nicola & Gary are charming hosts with many interesting tales. The star of the show is Woody who is utterly adorable! There are so many reasons to stay at the Oak House - stunning bedrooms (the Prince of Wales suite is our fav); relaxing, tranquil bathrooms; afternoon tea (handmade by Nicola) in the drawing room; a banquet of breakfast in the dining room - see if they can guess your order. A trip to the Chef's Table restaurant in Tetbury is a must for any visitor and Nicola & Gary are very happy to take charge of the booking and help with other suggestions. Cannot recommend highly enough, although would love to keep it a secret so that we always have a room available! More...

I stayed 3 nights mid week at Oak House No 1 on a recommendation from here in Australia. I was not disappointed ! What a fabulous home, town and welcoming I got from the hosts, Gary and Nicola. It was really comfortable, easy, warm and nothing was too much trouble. Tetbury is a fabulous town and central for drives and touring the countryside. Gorgeous bed and a bathroom and shower to die for. They have great stories to tell and recommendations as to what to do and where to go; it had been 40 years since I was over that way. This is a fantastic B&B which I highly recommend. I stayed here with my wife and two children in a suite with two bedrooms and a bathroom. This was a perfect setup for the four of us. My kids are well behaved, and there was nobody else staying there at the time, so I wasn't worried about annoying other guests. But the inn is cluttered with a lot of expensive looking artwork and furniture, so that's something to consider if coming with kids.||||The rooms were spotlessly clean and the food served was excellent. The decor is loud and eccentric. My 8 year old daughter asked me why there were so many "balls" on display. I didn't understand what she was talking about until she pointed to a statue of a naked man in the garden. If you are easily offended or you are looking for a place with traditional decor, then you probably won't like it.||||Nicola and Gary are interesting people, and they were very friendly and helpful. The town of Tetbury is nice and this inn is right in the middle of it. The only negative about this place is that it is adjacent to a public parking lot. I didn't hear any noise from the parking lot, but our bedroom was on the garden side. The town shuts down pretty early, so I don't think noise is probably ever a problem, but the view out the front of the building is not great.||||Overall this place is top-notch: Super clean, excellent food, unique decor, and friendly hosts. After visiting Oak House in Tetbury for a few days in March, we took the opportunity to return in May. Could it really be as good as we remembered? It was better! We were welcomed back by hosts Nicola and Gary like old friends, we couldn't have asked for a kinder welcome. The house is unbelievable - fabulous decor, amazing antiques and artwork, beautiful spotlessly clean rooms so tastefully decorated and wonderful warm hosts who can't do enough for you. We had a wonderful high tea in the blue library whilst leafing through the amazing collection of books. There was complimentary whisky or brandy and chocolates for the evening and the best cooked breakfast the next morning you will ever taste. The interior of Oak House is as eclectic and colourful as hosts Gary and Nicola's previous lifestyles. They greet you like old friends and then leave you to relax as if it was your own home. We stayed in the Prince's Suite at the front of the house – a spacious room mixing a bold colour scheme with traditional furniture. Nicola's afternoon tea (delicious home-made cakes and scones) can be taken in your bedroom or the sumptuous lounge. When you manage to drag yourself out of bed Tetbury is a lovely town full of antique shops, but Barnsley, Bibury (our favourite) and Burford are all chocolate-box villages worth a visit. This bed & breakfast is very special, but let me get the usual review essentials over with first:||* Location – perfect! It is located in the middle of a beautiful town with nice restaurants and unique shops. There is parking right by the house. ||* Décor – Stunning and one of a kind. For those that enjoy arts and interior design, this is simply heavenly! Every suite and every room decorated in its own theme; everywhere you look there were details to feast your eyes on. ||* Facilities – everything you need is here. The bed is comfortable, showers are great, TV has sky, free Wifi throughout the house. Being an OCD, this place is lovely and spotlessly clean!||* Service – exceptional! The owner Gary and Nicola are pure delight, they are friendly, warm and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for them.||* Breakfast – Apart from the stunning dining room, the breakfast is simply scrumptious. All food cooked beautifully with eggs cooked to your specs to perfection!||||In detail:||||We felt so lucky to have found this gem. There are two things that made No. 1 Oak House extraordinary: (1) the interior design; (2) the owners Gary and Nicola. ||||The interior design: ||||We stayed at the Prince’s suite. The room was spacious, airy and light. The four poster bed was large and very comfortable with lovely bed linens. There are lovely armchairs, a desk with homemade cookies presented beautifully on, kettle, lovely teapots and china. The bathroom is light and spacious. The shower is powerful. This room has a lovely country feel to it.|| ||If you look at the photos from the website, I am sure you can see the striking “Blue” sitting room. The room is beautiful with velvet chairs and a perfect setting for gold gilt frames around the room presenting beautiful arts. ||||The dining room was our favourite! Along with the grand chandelier dangling in the middle of the room on top of the dining table, there are famous Mark Brazier Jones ‘Atlantis’ and ‘San demas’ chairs dotted around, and Andy Warhol prints on the wall! Although the room is full of iconic design pieces and brilliant art works, they harmonise so well together, we always find something new in the room to admire. ||||The Owners:||||Gary and Nicola were just perfect. They made us feel very welcomed right from the start; they greeted us by our names before we even walked through the front door! They gave us recommendations for lovely restaurants (tried and tested) and a recommended route to see the surrounding picturesque towns. Apart from being a really handsome family, they are really interesting and charming people and we were really lucky to get to spend some time with them, who shared some wonderful and amazing stories with us! ||||For those that adore dogs, you would absolutely fall in love with Woody the Dachshund! He was so friendly and charming and full of character. As I have a couple of dachshunds myself, this makes the place feel just like home! For those that are not used to dogs, Nicola and Gary are very great, and they would ensure that Woody stays away ||||Out of all the reviews I have written, No.1 Oak House is the only one that I ever worried that I may not do it justice! This is a house that I would come to stay just for how lovely the interior is and how amazing Gary and Nicola are. My fiancé and I have already put this on our yearly visit list. More...

...but not if you prefer hotels, which we do. ||||The room was beautiful, as was the bathroom but we agreed afterwards that we're just not sure we like bed and breakfast accommodation generally: being in someone's house just isn't our thing and this is, obviously, like being in someone else's (perfectly nice, if not a bit overdone on the decorating front) house. ||||Things we liked: huge comfortable bed, swanky bathroom, central location, friendly people (not that we go to hotels to make friends, generally we're visiting friends)||||Things we didn't: being asked to take our shoes off; being told we had to be in by midnight. We're adults, at £225 a night - which is a hotel, not a b&b rate - surely you can lend us a key? ||||Perfectly nice but not for us. More...

We booked Oak House, No1, as a 10 year anniversary treat and it did not disappoint. The owners Gary and Nicky were very friendly and Nicky recommended some fabulous restaurants and great places to visit. The house is very comfortable and has a very eclectic design. We stayed in the Garden room, which was very tastefully decorated and had everything you could wish for including home-baked biscuits! The bed was very comfortable and the pillows and linen very soft. The bathroom was immaculately clean and looked as though it had just been installed ! If I had to make a comment it would be that the TV, which was a bit old, was placed where it made it difficult to watch, if you were lying in bed. There is a large breakfast menu and everything is delicious from a full English breakfast to fresh fruit salad and homemade muesli. Nicky also provides a lovely afternoon tea, with a variety of delicious home-baked cakes and if you are lucky to stay there on a lovely sunny day, it's nice to have tea in the garden. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Nicky, she was always happy and smiling. However, probably the best part for me was Woody, the resident dog - an adorable wire haired large dachshund that constantly wagged his tail and was full of character - I seriously wanted to take hime home ! Unique is an oft used word.||Staying at Oak House is one of those few times when it is not overstating the case.||The website, photos and write-ups just don't do it justice. ||You aren't staying in a hotel, a B&B, a guest house, or any other catch-all titled way.||You are immersing yourself in a home that has been lavishly created from the passion that Gary and Nic for all things beautiful.||If you don't want to, just don't leave the place throughout your stay - you don't need to. Every part of every room entertains, interests and fascinates and there are stories to go with everything.||With Nic and Gary (not forgetting Woody! Woof.) you feel welcome in a warm, "new friend" way. There's no corporate face, no standard patter, just genuine, down to earth enthusiasm and niceness. ||Take a nose around and you'll soon start to wonder why you chose the last off-white tin that you splashed on the living room wall. We have.||My wife and I have been privileged to have stayed in all sorts of places all over the world, but this is truly memorable.||I have come away with very happy memories of a lovely part of the world, ideas for our own house, (though it will never come close) and a huge smile whenever I think about our time away.||Truly great places are those that inspire emotion. Oak House is one of those.||Stay there if you possibly can. More...

My partner treated me to a return visit to Oak House No1 for my birthday. I can't think of a better place to spend a weekend. Nicola and Gary are dream hosts; welcoming, brimming with tales and good humour, but they know when to leave you to your own devices. And the house and rooms are so spacious that you never get the dreaded 'B&B cabin fever'. Our room (the Cavalier Suite) was comfortably bigger than most London flats, and a wonderful place to lounge around and eat Nicola's amazingly good scones.||||Tetbury's plethora of antique shops range from the brilliant (i.e. Lorfords) to the hilariously awful, but the real stars are the buildings themselves - wonderfully atmospheric Georgian houses. We had dinner at The Chef's Table again and I loved sitting at the counter watching the chefs at work (if only I could keep my own kitchen so tidy when cooking dinner). It does get rather hot and steamy, but that's part of the fun. ||||As a gay couple you never quite know what you're in for when trying new hotels - am so glad we've found Oak House No1 as it feels like a place that celebrates life, people and culture in all its diversity. My husband took me here as a surprise for our 10th wedding anniversary. And what a totally fabulous surprise it was - the boy done good! I cannot recommend the Oak House No.1 enough for a special night or two away, especially if you like art and interior design. It's like being in an Elle Decoration spread.||||If you're after Cotswold tweeness and muted colours this is not the place for you. From the outside it looks like a lovely Georgian Cotswold cottage. On the inside it is a sophisticated and eclectic blend of bold colours, unique furniture and art that you would expect to find hanging in a gallery. I love the grand chandlier in the kitchen, and our suite - The Cavaliar - was beautifully decorated and probably not dissmiliar in size to the ground floor of our house. Some people may find it over the top but I thought it oozed confidence and good taste. ||||The hosts Gary Kennedy and Nicola MacWilliam are absolutely lovely - very warm and welcoming, very chatty and extremely interesting to talk to. Nothing is too much trouble. They have travelled the world collecting art and doing up houses and are clearly not short of a bob or two, so why do they do it? Well, I think they enjoy letting people into their home to enjoy the items they have collected over the years and also like the opportunity to meet people. They do appear to be genuinely interested in their guests. ||||If you're after a lovely weekend break that costs about the same as a fairly ordinary hotel room in central London then give this a try. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and Tetbury is fantastic too. Very pretty Cotswold town with a great market on Saturday on Sunday to pick up some lovely unique finds. More...

Loved the place. Stayed over a weekend with my husband at the end of September.||We arrived earlier than check-in time and Nicola was kind enough to prioritise the cleaning of our room so we could check in at 2pm, instead of of the customary 3pm. ||While they prepared the room we drove to a nearby Pub in a quite residential lane and what ensued was just quite superb.... a Hunting Group finishing their (faux) hunt of the day appeared from nowhere, all horses and hounds, velvet helmets, neck scarves and tweed to have a refreshment at the pub, where the staff hurried outside with bacon and sausage rolls, beer, wine, sandwiches.. the lot! It was like something our of a history book, they all look like a mix beween Prince Charles and Hugh Grant. Be assured though, they only follow a scent, so no foxes were killed and it only happens twice a year.... quite something!||||Back to the the Hostel we were greeted by Nicola and Gary who were very welcoming and showed us around what I can only describe as a fabulous art deco gallry style house. That alone makes the stay worthy. Once they showed us to our upstairs room we were asked at what time we wanted cream tea and we agreed to have in their lovely back garden.||||Our "quarters" consistend of spacious, cream - coloured room overlooking the back garden, accessed through our own lockable door, after which a small aisle ensued with a large bathroom with an even larger bathtub. ||||All was testefully decorated and the soft cream carpet was a joy to walk on (barefoot - of course). The bed was spacious and very comfortable - although the TV screen was oddly place to the side and way too high up... but who wants to watch TV when you can stare for hours to the decoration and art around you.||||The mornign breakfast was served in their enourmous kitchen and the menu catered for all tastes sweet and savoury and was enough to fill us up for another day of exploring the countryside around.||||Lovely stay, warm hosts, mind-blowing art deco.
