I joined newcross in the last few months, was good at the start! Was offered lots of shifts and would take them! In interview I explained I live in the middle of nowhere with no buses and I do not drive! (so would walk/get lifts) they said would only offer shifts within easy reach! No did not happen! Constantly phoning and texting even when I'm unavailable to work. If I decline a shift I will not hear anything from them for more work until maybe 2/3 weeks of not working!! They were pestering me so much for work that I ended up leaving my 1st job!! Absolutely disgusting that a company can basically lie about how amazing it is to work for them, when in reality they are a disgraceful company to work for. How am I meant to bring up my 5 year old child on no work? I don't get any money at all most weeks on end and am having to borrow of family! I have now decided to leave this job and have got a full time care job WITH LOTS OF HOURS!!! I am so glad I have got out of there! Oh and don't get me started with the £50 charge if you are unwell! God help this company as they will lose most of their employees from seeing a lot of the reviews.

My advice to Management is to take the time to actually give your employees the shifts. And listen to their needs and carers also need to be cared for! And maybe scrap the £50 charge!

I worked at Newcross Healthcare Solutions part-time (Less than a year)
1) I was able to leave quickly
2) the office is in city centre
1) the interview was not an interview - it was a case of just filling in boxes but not checking suitability for position
2) training is unpaid/you have to pay for your own training
3) training was merely a case of watching a dvd and answering questions - some other new members of staff on my training appeared to lack basic skills and knowledge in many areas of safety in health and social care but this was overlooked by the branch staff and these individuals were accepted as new staff members.
4) just because a person has extensive experience in care work does not make them a safe and empathetic care/support worker. Health and social care is a notoriously under paid and undersupervised field with a numerous high profile scandals of poor and unsafe practice. skills and knowledge need to be tested and ALL staff should still have a full course of mandatory training...not just watchin a DVD as achieves nothing in my opinion.
4) the branch staff do not appear to have any experience or understand what is involved in care work
5) newcross appears to be run as a business and not a health "care" "provider" - i feel newcross is an agency that lacks a recruitment criteria, is money-driven rather than care-focused and views training as their employees' responsibility thereby newcross don't appear to place importance on ensuring their staff are fully trained to be able to support/care for vulnerable people.
6) in addition the pay rate for weekday night shifts with hc1 care homes are unacceptable (40p higher than day rate and less than £9 for working antisocial hours in a demanding role....I got paid this for day rate in 2008 when I did my first care work role with the nhs) it concerns me how money newcross bring in from these shifts.

For all these reasons I was hesitant in doing a shift for a business which i feel prioritises money over providing and supporting highly trained staff that ensure a safe and caring environment for vulnerable people. I would feel very uncomfortable if I knew a loved one was being cared for by staff who may not have sufficient training and capabilities to look after them (and this is what I believe is the potential when newcross recruit, "train" and provide staff to care settings).

I had such an uneasy feeling about working for newcross that I decided to leave rather than work for them. I did not trust that I would be supported in my role as the branch staff had no background in care work. Ultimately I left because I see newcross as putting profit before the safety of people and I am inclined to contact CQC as I am so concerned by newcross (I'm not sure if this indicative of newcross nationally or just the nottingham branch)

I would 100% steer people away from working for newcross.
