Q&As

To see if your garage is suitable for a conversion is simple, dig a test hole to expose the foundations, check the depth and thickness of the concrete. This would be a good start. All single wall structures will have to be insulated, both on the floor and walls. So bear in mind you will loose approx 100mm head height and 70mm off each wall (unless it is internal).

1. Check foundation
2. Check roof,
3.install opening and brick up door if required,
4, install services,
5. Install insulation,
6. Fit any new doors or windows,
7. Plasterboard interior,
8. Plaster out rooms
9. Second fix carpentry,
10. Second fix services,
11. Decorate.

You would require approx 3 metres of head room at the apex, this size can be reduced with a good sized Dorma window. Look for acces as you will loose space for a staircase.

So to start,
1. Draw a plan as detailed as possible.
2. Contact your local planning department to see if approval is required.
3. You will need heavy steel beams so appoint a structural engineer.
4. Steel RSJ need to run the length of the house, either side at new floor level.
5. If existing roof is manufactured trusses, the braces will need to be removed.
6. Steel purlins or even a steel ridge beam may be required.
7. install new floor joists as required.
8. All services require can be installed.
9. 1st fix carpentry can now be done.
10.access to the loft space now needs to be achieved.
11. Insulate and plasterboard out.
12. Plaster skim to all boarded areas.
13. Second fix services.
14. Decorate

29 years in service. I started my career as a carpenters apprentice and after completing a four year course I went on to site work. New homes was my life for a while but shortly after I had the opportunity to work for a small builder. I learned to lay bricks, then plaster and after a while complete roof coverings. I went on to do a host of different trades, helping plumbers fit heating systems and bathrooms etc. Approx 18 years ago I started up on my own and has been a fun ride ever since.

We Guarantee our work for 5 years, but materials and some products carry a manufacturers warranty for longer. We will always return to put anything right.

Meeting new people is always a joy. I like to look back and see hat we have achieved for our customers. It's great to get involved in making people's lives and there homes a better place to be. I personally always love a challenging project to test our abilities.

i was originally inspired by having to deal with the clients personally and like to be in control of my own projects. The fact that I probably spend more time on site than in the office is a good example. Getting my hands dirty is still something I enjoy.

I have a good eye for detail, and it is said that I am very honest and happy to please. Communication is always a good thing even if sometimes it's to highlight a problem. I do try my hardest to help out and always stay on budget unless things are changed from the original price by my customers. I have always been pretty laid back and am not one to loose focus.
