Lovely place to av lunch.Interesting art and things of interest.
Enjoyed many of the exhibitions
Great place for all the family
This place is great as well as looking through the museum you can also book to have a special event there
Tranquil and interesting exhibitions
Ann Burdon Bailey
Lot's of interest exhibitions all year round
Very nice place
Excellent displays capture Sheffield's rich heritage.
Nice little place to visit, for an hour or as long as you like.
Great pieces of art from a recent competition and, in a separate section, a fascinating history of Sheffield steel. Free entry but obvs donations welcome and frankly rude not to - display of this quality needs support. We visited the gallery which was free to enter and marvelled at the workmanship of the items on display. Excellent information on the items on show More...
Nice gallery, it's a great thing that we still have public resources like this. I believe the library is open to anyone who needs it. We need more spaces like this in sheffield :) More...
There are some good exhibitions. Right now is the Ruskin one, which is well worth a look! By the way I took these photos BEFORE anyone said I COULDN'T!
Keep climbing stairs until you arrive at the top! You'll recognize the art museum gift shop. From there, you'll bask in the presence of a variety of works in a beautiful setting, not at all crowded on a Saturday afternoon. Allow at least 45 minutes to really see everything briefly, more if you like to study. I went for the Edward Burne-Jones, stayed for the Pissarro, and enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the artistic heritage of Sheffield at the Graves Gallery. More...
Very interesting museum space
A very interesting selection of objects, pictures and photographs displayed in a series of rooms. The would of the inside area was clean and tidy with toilets available for public use.
Great exhibition on cutlery. Leonardo exhibition was beautiful.
Superb day out with n Sheffield made better by the great exhibitions and artwork in the millennium gallery, lots of interactive things for the kids to do, always a clean and friendly environment with great facilities.
This does have pure quality about the art that is on display. It's a place to chill and explore. It is for sure a huge learning experience for all ages. There is also a small gift shop available selling a variety of items. Also, if you need a beverage then it is connected to the Peace Gardens so it easily accessible to get food/drinks. More...
Nice to walk through to get to the other side of town. Good downstairs toilets too.
Interesting to follow the art works around from old to modern, like to dislike, brilliance to .... Others will see it differently.
Interesting art and lots of information but not too much to take up a lot of time. Walking through also makes it easier to access other part of the town center, so it's worth a visit.
Great. Please stop bothering.
It's a great place to be with pictures
Lovely and calm oasis in busy city . Good free museum has plenty to see and do. Gift shop sells Sheffield made goods. Nice little coffee bar is very cheap but clean.
Great for all
Love this exhibition!
Exhibitions and shops are great
Plenty to see and do
Incredible building always something cool to look at.
Very nice gallery, always with lots of free stuff to see.
Nice to walk around when in town
Had a great day at the Northern craft fair yesterday! They could of had more stalls in the next room, we then carried on going to Cutlers Hall.
Mr Alexis Lee
I like my art and this fantastic place to go in Sheffield City Centre. Quality originals.
Great place to take a look another side of Sheffield. Free museum and free book to borrow.

Excellent service food & a lovely dining experience. The breakfast was amazing. We would definitely recommend.Thank youThe Shepley family
This venue is noisy but attractively laid out. The staff very keen to be helpful. I had the Nordic salad which was as fresh and attractive as possible. All in all a good experience.
Delicious food, not very generous portions, shame no table service but ordering at bar ok but had to pay as we went not when we finished
Food was good. Quality ingredients. Surroundings dull, service ok. Had to look for someone to ask if we could be seatedand how to order !
Fantastic food, the crumpets with guacamole were great, as was the hake with brown shrimp, but the standout was baked leeks with goat cheese. All the food was well beyond expectation. The ambience is light and airy, music pleasantly quiet, cheerful service. I have recommended this to all my friends. More...
Great food, very good service we all loved it. We ate at 6 on a Wednesday evening and staff couldn’t have been more attentive and gave advice on wine to accompany the food and explained the menu in lots of detail.
Loved the decor and all the attention to detail. The staff were welcoming and topped up our water when needed without us asking. The food was good. We went for an early tea with the kids. They enjoyed their food especially the mac & cheese. I wonder whether the menu is better suited to lunch rather than tea. Will definitely go back for lunch. More...
Small but perfectly formed gallery. Has some interesting exhibitions temporary and permanent. I always have a walk through here and the attached winter gardens to see what's happening on my way up from the train station.
I love this place. At lunchtime, it's excellent to go in with your sandwiches to sit and eat. There always seems to be something happening -choirs, art exhibitions - you name it. Friendly staff and the shops are great, too. More...
Efficient and chilled vibe at the same time. Beautifully decorated. Appropriate for both families and work lunches, overall a perfect place to visit on a trip to Sheffield no matter the occasion! Food is spot on too.
Always some very interesting exhibitions there. Well worth a visit and see the Winter gardens too.
We really enjoyed the Leonardo exhibition. It's hard to believe the drawings are over 500 years old, they are in such good condition. The Millennium Gallery itself is always with a visit, with quirky exhibits such as the Vehicle of Nature which is currently open. More...
It's a nice place to go, with a permanent exhibit on Ruskin and other changing exhibits, a shop (of course), nice public toilets and as an extension to the Winter Gardens, makes a pleasant visit. Also, now there is a new and excellent restaurant on the ground level. More...
Millennium Gallery Sheffield. Colourful, varied, buzzing. Great mixture of semi-permanent exhibitions, lively, related books and other resources to buy, and a 40-stall craft fair. We bought a super print of Rare and Racy. Can't recommend Sheffield centre too highly. More...
We had a very lovely breakfast, booked a table in case the nice weather brought the crowds, but it was actually so nice and quiet. The stuff and the food were outstanding, and it was the best place for a goodbye before catching a train at the station!Highly recommend! More...
Great atmosphere and great food and drink. Staff were first class too.
The food was very good and the waitress was very knowledgeable when asked for explanations on the ingredients. Will definitely go again
I only descoved the gallery cafe had changed hands recently (I used to avoid it) I have eaten lunch there3 times in the last 2 weeks, at last we have a worthy gallery cafe I just love it, and so do the friends I take along with me. A fab dining experience, the menu, the environment and the wonderful staff can’t be faltered. Thank you all at Ambulo. More...
We had a great evening and the service was fantastic.
Wonderful hidden gem! Worth a visit, plenty of art works and pieces to view. This is my secret little oasis in the city.
This is a small gallery, but hung in an interesting, thematic way. There are a few significant pictures by internationally important artists, some of which do make quite an impression.
Love Ambulo! Fantastic food, staff and it’s our four year old’s favourite place to eat!
Second visit in 2 weeks and improving already. Very tasty food, quick service and a great new choice for pre theatre dining in Sheffield
Excellent service, lovely food but think that some dishes are over priced for the amount you have to eat. I don’t have a large appetite but was still hungry after eating the new leek & feta dish. Consider serving with bread as needed to mop up cheesey remains. Please bring back the jelly & icecream. I’m diabetic on insulin & it’s ok as not too many carbohydrates compared to other desserts. More...
Third time I have been to Ambulo recently. Ambulo is a lovely, airy, welcoming space underneath the Millenium Gallery. Staff are really lovely, friendly and helpful. Food is great: the falfal patty is huge and packed with loads of goodness. The sticky toffee pudding is wonderful, the sponge very light and the toffee sauce to die for. All topped off with a scoop of creamy, tasty vanilla ice-cream. I love the fruity Carpe Diem smoothy. Definitely my go to place in Sheffield city centre for a leisurely lunch. More...
Perfect pre-theatre meal. The smaller plates meant we could try a bit a bit of everything we fancied. The staff were helpful and attentive - highly recommend!
A strange place: it isn’t quite sure what it is or what it wants to be. Is it creative high-end dining? Or is it a canteen? The result is that it falls somewhere in between and doesn’t quite work. The space is lovely, but the furniture poor. It is too uncomfortable and cheap looking for the price of the food. The food is good, but confused by the new ‘sharing plates’, which are more in keeping with a high end restaurant. The service is disjointed, the staff are nervous. We were walked to our table silently, the menus placed down without comment. There were more staff cleaning tables than serving, our drinks orders were taken after 15 minutes with our food order... It’s odd. Highly instagramable, but the real life experience needs to catch-up with the Instagram one. More...
We had a really lovely meal at Ambulo on Sunday. The food was excellent as was the service. The only problem was that it was so cold in the restaurant, if this could be addressed it would be a straight 5 review.
Great food and location. Choice covers all tastes and age groups. Perfect part of a visit to the art gallery and wider Sheffield attractions
First time not the last! Ambulo is an excellent addition to Sheffield. The food was amazing, service excellent and atmosphere perfect for a Friday evening. We had 3 sharing plates and saved room for the sticky toffee pudding and custard tart More...
There are often some great small exhibitions on here. Most are free . It joins on to the winter gardens which its own right acts as a landmark for the cultural center of the city. - only thing that a would say is that Henersons relish is not art . Stop putting it on post card . It lowers the tone of any institution that associates it's self with true art. More...
Great free little gallery with varied contents. They accept donations to support the development and presumably ongoing running. Quite a few interactive elements which is great for the kids. Well worth a look and a cafe there if you fancy a little snack :) More...
I wasn't expecting this oasis. Wide spacious thought - provoking. Short walk from main rail for on way out or going home. Remodelled exhibits show local ingenuity to a fitting high standard. Wheelchair access good for exhibits as well as main shop. Links to indoor trees place. More...
Absolutely delicious food, great service for a work lunch. Really recommend for something way above the norm in terms of menu and atmosphere. It was a bit chilly inside on the day of my visit, but otherwise flawless. More...
We visited Ambulo on Saturday night. It was an absolutely fantastic experience - everything lived up to what we expected (and more). Everything, from the service to the food itself, was faultless. Will definitely be coming back - thanks!! More...
Food as delicious, service extremely good. Eaten there 3 times. All good but quite pricey.
This is a very nicely designed, light space, noisy but not too bad near the windows at lunchtime. Fresh colour scheme and lots of space. Service was friendly, professional and helpful. The food was excellent. We shared a main course of hake with XO beurre noisette and brown shrimp which was extremely good and the sticky toffee pudding reclaimed it’s place. It was probably the best sticky toffee pudding I have ever eaten, light sponge, caramel sauce just on the right side of burnt and a delicious ice cream. High chairs available. I would definitely go back. More...
Really enjoyed my lunch at Ambulo, so glad we chose it. Service was absolutely excellent, food different and excellent and ambience relaxed and friendly with people of all ages. Makes the most of the location as well, good window seats. Great lunchtime venue, will try evening soon! More...
Fantastic! Great food choice, not just the standard menu you’re offered at 9 out of 10 other places you visit in the city centre. At the same time a kid friendly menu that went down a treat. Staff were also brilliant with my three year old son. More...
I had the cauliflower salad and a cappuccino. Absolutely amazing flavours and excellent quality of coffee. I had to wait to be served whilst 3 of the waitresses/waiter were talking whilst I was holding my baby. They apologised. Looking forward to trying other dishes. More...
Fabulous aubergine dish just spoiled a little by the flatbread being impossible to cut. The dish was actually on top of the flatbread rather than at the side. Preferable to have the bread separate so it could be eaten with fingers!Great pricing especially on the wine.Shame the custard tarts weren't individual like pastel de natal or pasticcioti We will return for lunch and keep it on our list of regular haunts! More...
The fish finger sandwich was tasty but the string fries weren’t what we expected. So that meant the meal didnt seem as good value. Staff were friendly. The cafe is family friendly but I would have really struggled to breast feed on those seats /couches so we left and went home instead. Decor was really nice. More...
Delicious food, perfect coffee and lovely wait staff, my third venture into Ambulo in just one day and each visit was excellent.
Had a really nice dinner here after visiting the Millenium Gallery. The service was great, the food was delicious and well put together and the portions were perfect. It was also great value. Would highly recommend. More...
I don’t have the words to say enough good things about Ambulo. Everything is done right. The service is fantastic: friendly and relaxed. The food and drinks manage to be both delicious and visually stunning - like everything else in the place (with the flowers deserving a special mention!) More...
We loved Ambulo - the staff were super-friendly, the atmosphere was buzzy and welcoming, and the food was lovely.
First round of drinks were all cold. Must have been stood waiting. Given wrong bill. Food was great.
Lovely atmosphere, service was great, food was good value and very nice
Great atmosphere, amazing service, nice food....did expect night time menu to be different to day? Or few evening specials? Overall though, very enjoyable ....will definitely come again. More...
Really excellent food and service with an intereating and flexible menu, suitable for whatever you feel like - snacks, coffee, drinks or a really delicious lunch. Loved it.
The decor and vibe were so well thought out and perfect. The food omg so good. Massive sandwiches that are so so tasty. The menu is quite unusual for a cafe which is refreshing. Will become a regular spot.
Booked a table for two online, we showed up 15mins late (not something we would normally do but traffic driving from Nottingham) but the staff were totally relaxed and showed us to our table straight away. We Had the buttermilk rabbit and butterfly chicken dishes, both really tasty! The menu is simple so easier to decide on what to eat and drink. I couldn’t fault anything, will definitely visit again! More...
The menu was really interesting. The food was delicious, perfectly cooked- great flavours and all tasted very fresh. It was quite quiet for a Friday night and the minimalist decor makes it feel almost a bit clinical...needs warming up somehow- but maybe that’s just my personal taste. I would definitely go back for the food. The staff were pleasant. More...
Like the corridor best on the first floor, where there are a variety of local artists' products. And the gallery cafe is also a good place to meet friends in the city centre. The status made by knifes and folks is quite amazing. Generally, a good place to know the history of Sheffield. More...
Great atmosphere and terrific value for money. Will definitely be coming back !
Great place for a casual lunch with family. Interesting menu and lovely food. Will definitely be back!
I would recommend Ambulo with some hesitation. Unfortunately 2 main course choices were unavailable and the menu is limited anyway. We had to ask twice for the bill which isn’t so good when it’s a pre-theatre meal. I’ll try it again and hope for a better experience. More...
Light and airy modern space but feels intimate. Food was excellent and plenty of choices for non alcoholic drinkers. Very pleasant service.
Good menu, beautiful light space, brilliant for kids, super friendly staff. Venue may be a little hot in summer, it was very hot today in the sun and it’s only Feb. Food was very good although the salt beef sandwich had much less beef in than their Instagram picture suggested. More...
Went twice in 3 days. Service friendly. Enjoyed my spicy cauliflower and fetoush salad and deliscious chicken breast and courgette mix (although would have liked a little more for my £11 - but maybe I’m being greedy) Next time I’m trying the crumpets!
Amazing food and venue!
I saw this place was opening and I was quick to make a booking, I am always happy to support all things Sheffield. Booking was really easy to do online and when I had to change something a few hours before they were more than happy to oblige. The place looks crisp and clean and the colour scheme reminds me of being on holiday. The music is eclectic and at a good volume. Our waitress didn't seem to have a clue what was on the menu and questioned everything we placed - Can be forgiven for the first weekend but I thought they would maybe have learnt it a little. (This was my only issue with my visit). The food was fantastic - plates arrived at the tables in good time and the presentation is modern but not poncy. The portion sizes are perfect (I am yet to have an evening meal here) and the quality of the food is above the norm for Sheffield city center brunch in my opinion. The coffee is light and fruity and goes well with the 4 different dishes I managed to try. The baked goods were fresh and reminiscent of the bread and cakes your Nan would make. The mains are delicious with contemporary twists on classic dishes and fresh bursting flavours of new recipes. I look forward to visiting again and working my way through the menu at what looks to be a growing and soon to be very popular hang out. More...
Beautiful decor and finish. Fantastic food offering at a really reasonable price as well as lovely coffee from Darkwoods. Highly recommend the crumpets and the freshly made pasta. Cocktails, wine and beer all served on draught so speed of service was great. Everything was delicious from start to finish. More...
An all day cafe I would be more than happy to stay all day (and night) in.
Loved this place! Went for brunch and enjoyed everything we ordered. Really gutted that I was too full to order the custard tart, it looked amazing. Next time I want to try the evening menu. More...
Very good and well done food for a resonable price with a great vibe and very friendly staff. Me and my girlfriend went for our anniversary and really enjoyed it. Will be going again and reccomending it to friends. Also music choice was brill More...
The staff were extremely friendly, and the food was incredible. I can’t wait to go back!
Perfect dinner for two, fabulous food and service - we’ll definitely be back!
Service staff didn’t really seem to know what they were doing. Granted, it was the first day, but they loitered a lot and seemed a bit fumbly. But the food was outstanding and we loved the decor and music More...
I love this oasis of peace in the bustling city centre. Small but a wonderfully varied collection of artworks with a few stunning pieces.
Amazing hidden gem in plain sight.I would strongly recommend spending time here
Brilliant art gallery, fab staff
I love this gallery, always visit it when I have time :)
Look at Hand Made for Christmas
Lovely serene place if you appreciate art.
We entered this gallery without high expectations - we were wrong - an excellent gallery with a range of artwork from modern to classic. Could be a bit more informative, really four and a half stars. More...
It's a long climb up 3 big flights of stairs above the library (lift was broken when we visited), but the reward is some real gems. Cezanne, Burne Jones, Pisarro ... worth the effort. More...
Brilliant free gallery, with changing exhibitions.
Love it here, lovely little Sheffield gem!
This is a lovely gallery in the centre of town. I lived in Sheffield for 10 years and never visited. I don't think they make enough of themselves. Some great collections including Grayson Perry's breathtaking tapestry, which is about 15-20m long. More...
Great little gallery. The Grayson Perry tapestry is really cool.
Bit old and crumbling building, but the art selection is quite good. Has pieces from the 16th and 17th+more modern day art as well.
Tiny but beautiful
A real asset to the city. I spent about an hour here during a damp day out to the city with my family.
It was very enjoyable! The staff was friendly and the shop had a good selection of gifts. The gallery itself was lovely and I especially enjoyed some of the local art (and locally inspired art) that they had. It is always so refreshing to see an emphasis placed on celebrating and preserving local history. I am very pleased with this gallery! More...
Really good fun
Nobody seems to mention that the gallery has works by famous artists like Cezanne, Gauguin, Lowry and many others. Would definitely recommend, especially the last few rooms if you don't have enough time for the whole thing.
Most enjoyable.good art.cafeteria exalent.well worth a visit.
A highly underrated gallery space, with some nice exhibitions. It's a shame it's very tucked away, otherwise it might get more footfall.
Great free gallery with changing exhibitions. Beautiful art deco building. Worth an hour of anyone's time.
naked woman everywhere very nuice
Well laid out gallery . Would like to see a better rotation of art .
Free. Good collection. Often has good exhibitions.
I like Graves Gallery because of its modest size. Quite often you can feel swamped by artwork, but this gallery strikes a nice balance between keeping you interested but not overwhelming you.
Great gallery! There's always something cool on
Had a very pleasant visit with my daughter for about an hour. Some very interesting exhibits and it certainly helped get my daughter engaged in thinking about different types and styles of art. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Definitely would go there again. More...
Lots of great paintings and some more modern artwork.
Sheffield is worth visiting for several reasons but a trip to the Graves should be top of the list. A superbly comprehensive collection, a recent addition is a huge Greyson Perry tapestry. The 1930s building also holds the Public Library and shows how municipal architecture was once functional and inspiring. Perhaps a bit of restoration might not be a bad thing! More...
Really nice gallery that just keeps on going. Great for anyone who enjoys art in all it's forms and wants something little different to do. Perfect place for dates coupled with a meal or coffee and cake. More...
Good exhibition space, with respectable cafe.
Good selection of art. Good to take older children to
Not only does this little gem of a gallery have a small but wide spread of Art down the ages, but it is an education, with brief notes by each picture of the life and times of the artist. The lady at the shop reception also offered a warm welcome, and wished us goodbye on leaving. Excellent experience. More...
Nice gallery in Sheffield city centre, just off of the Winter Gardens. When you enter, you are first greeted with their extensive giftshop, filled with local goods. They have 3 main halls for exhibits - the permanent metalwork exhibit was the star for us. Very interesting to learn a bit about Sheffield's history, and there are a lot of pieces to look at.The gallery is not huge, I think we spent between 45 minutes and an hour there, but it's location means it's not exactly out of the way and it's free, so I would still recommend you pop in. It's also surrounded by a few nice restaurants and independent cafes, so I imagine it would be quite nice to visit around lunchtime. More...
great art gallery!
Great gallery, always something interesting, but the opening times are awful...
Pleasant gallery/museum to kill an hour when in Sheffield. A five minute walk from Sheffield station. This is a modern building that houses various small exhibitions, not to be confused with the Graves Gallery, the city's art gallery, which is located close-by. The Millennium Gallery focuses on some visiting/special exhibits as well as on a few permanent exhibitions, like the "John Ruskin Collection" - a 19th century selection of various crafts and natural history objects, with a few watercolors and paintings thrown in for good measure, that the philosopher John Ruskin collected to create a small museum for the working class of the time, most of them being kept ignorant of history and the arts by the ruling classes. While none of those objects are in any way spectacular, one can well imagine that they must have delighted and astounded their target audience at the time. Then, there's an permanent exhibit on Sheffield's history as a centre of metal and silver manufacturing in the late 18th and 19th centuries. This is actually the most impressive part of this gallery (see photos). Photography is allowed in these permanent exhibitions. The venue is free of charge, and it's bright, modern and friendly, with a long garden gallery that you can sit in and relax from the bustle of the city. There's also a café on the ground floor, as well as a small museum shop on the first. More...

The Milennium Galleries hosts a series of small galleries with small seperate exhibitions. There are two permanant exhibitions - one about metalwork, which is great for visitors to the city as it offers a brief but informative glimpse at the importance that steel and metalwork have had on the city in the past. There is also a focus on the future of metalwork in Sheffield with some commisioned pieces. The other permanant gallery is one which houses various collections of Ruskin. This includes paintings, rocks and sculpture. There are two spaces for changing exhibitions and in the past these have included both local artwork and projects and national exhibitions like the Vivienne Westwood show earlier this year. The Millennium Galleries isn't designed like most traditional museums or galleries are, instead it acts as a shortcut through part of the city centre, and shoppers, workers and tourists can stroll through the open planned nature of the gallery into the centre of town. Other facilities in the gallery are a cafe, a small gift shop area and various interactive sculptures. I highly recommend the Millennium Galleries, especially for visitors to Sheffield as it acts as a great and interesting shortcut from the station to the shopping areas of town! More...

How can you fault something that's free? This is a great place to visit, and the exhibition seems to change every time I go! There is a pay exhibition on too often, though I've never been to one they do look good. The free exhibition though is nothing to be faulted, it's very well put together. There is a gift shop too, and is right next to the Winter Gardens too so is in a nice location. More...
