What do you love most about your job?
I love dealing with a wide range of different people and helping them drive their businesses.
I am not one of those accountants you see once a year to find out how much tax to pay and pay his bill. I am online and can be contacted 24/7 365 days a year.

What inspired you to start your own business?
I have been in the Accountancy profession for 39 years, specialising in small owner managed businesses for most of that time. Most accountancy firms charge their fees based on an hourly charge out rate, and there is pressure to bill as many hours and recover as many fees as possible. In most cases the clients were expected to fit in with how the accountancy practice worked.
I decided to take a step back, and to form my own business model. Technology has changed the way in which businesses interact with their accountants. I have access to my clients live records, and can produce meaningful reports tailored to meet each individual client's specific needs. I am more in contact with clients than ever before even though I might not be actually seeing them, but rather using media such as e-mail, telephone and skype. My model means that all the work is carried out by myself. I can take on only a finite number of clients so that I can provide the level of care and service that satisfies both them and myself, whilst still giving me a balance in my own life between financial compensation, work time and leisure.
