I instructed Simon from Lignum Designs to design me a house. Having had a bad experience from a previous unnamed architect, I was anxious about building another house. However Simon was superb from start to finish. He made me feel at ease with the whole process and his designs, reliability and attitude were first class. I used Simon from Lignum design on a new build project in Yealmpton, Devon. He was fantastic from start to finish. His fresh ideas and quirky designs really finished the house to a high spec. Every person who has had a look at my house and congratulated me on the design and layout and this is all down to Simon. Along with being superb at his job, he always responds to emails and phone calls at his earliest convenience and this therefore sped up the building planning and development process. We have just received planning permission for our internal reconfiguration which Simon has designed for us. He visited us on several occasions and helped us to see the potential in our property exploring all the options available. Together we talked through how we want to use the house and we have used every pocket of space to reach that potential. Simon has been friendly and accommodating throughout and he has kept in touch regularly. He talked us through the planning process and kept us updated whilst successfully securing planning permission. Simon came to our house and really listened to what we wanted. He helped create our ‘vision’. He drew us some great plans for our extension and gave us five different options with indicative costs. Simon has completed a couple of pieces of work for me, a side extension design, and rear garden remodelling.
His ideas have been fresh and in-keeping with the character with the property.
He considered the benefits daylight will bring to the space and explored quality materials for a well considered proposal to enhance the appearance as space of the house.
We look forward to Simon’s vision being delivered by the contractors, it will look stunning!

Simon has been doing a new build project for me now for a few months and I’m glad I didn’t pick another architect. Not only is he superb at his job, his new and creative ideas certainly puts him up there with the best. His attention to detail and communication between himself and myself makes working together very easy and and rewarding. This also has a knock on effect with the speed at which the development is taking shape. I would highly recommend Simon to any person looking for an enthusiastic and determined architect. What do you love most about your job?
We like helping clients achieve more than they realised was possible, from the smallest side extension to large detached houses, there are always opportunities to introduce something special, an unexpected view to outside, better connected rooms, or simply additional storage - an element that every time you use it or see it you say - 'I am glad we did that'
What inspired you to start your own business?
Running your own business allows a personal approach to each project, managing the relationship with the Client is the most important aspect of this. Running a small business gives complete control, we only work with other consultants that we trust, and with trades people that we would be happy to have working in our house.
Why should our clients choose you?
We have fun doing what we do, for Clients that have never built before, the whole process can be daunting, we aim to make the process as understandable and simple as possible, providing clear and simple advice and information every step of the way. A Client thats feels in control is a happy client.
