Mansfield, Nottinghamshire(3 Reviews)
Lane Sheppard was founded by John Lane in 1946 with the aim of providing a high-quality decoration service to private and commerical customers.
This aim was preserved by John's son Colin and is now being delivered by Colin's son, Thomas.
Our approach to work is one of absolute dedication to client satisfaction. We know that the best advocate for our organisation is a happy client. Our staff are all highly skilled, efficient craftsmen who are passionate about their work. The same dedication to detail and quality is given to every one of clients, regardless of size or budget.
We provide decorative services to clients across a whole range of sectors and in a whole range of settings. All of our work is guaranteed for 3 years.
We are delighted that a significant proportion of our work comes from private clients. The fact that almost three-quarters of our work with these clients is repeat-business is another source of delight. We work hard to understand our clients wishes and we don't rest we have achieved the desired finish.
We are proud to work with some leading interior design and architecture firms working across the UK and Europe. We are also regularly commissioned by the National Trust and a number of ecclesiastical bodies to work in the many historic and religious properties that they manage.
Our work within the educational sector has been praised widely and we have worked in universities, colleges and schools in both the private and public sector.
We work closely with a select number of construction customers to help their clients create beautiful living and working spaces. We work in newly constructed sites, as well as refurbished spaces.
Our approach has led us to be commissioned on a number of high-value projects including candidates for RIBA Awards.

Lane Sheppard Services
We will strip the existing wall covering (when and where required). We then wash the wall surface to remove any residual adhesives. After this any surface defects such as cracks or holes are filled using high quality fillers and decorators caulk. Areas which have been patched are then rubbed down using a variety of sandpapers and filing tools to ensure that a smooth and even surface has been created. Once surfaces are suitably prepared, the process of paper hanging begins. Papers are applied with superior-quality adhesive to ensure both a firm hold and a flawless appearance. We are able to hang a wide variety of papers depending on the customer's choice.
External Masonry Painting
On all masonry type walls, we clean the surface thoroughly before any work is undertaken. If necessary, we will treat algae and any other fungal growths with a fungicidal wash. Any loose material is then scraped away using high quality filing tools. Any areas which are defective or bare are treated with a stabiliser solution before any paint is applied, this allows for an even finish to be obtained. Once surfaces are suitably prepared, the actual painting process begins. We use high quality tools to apply paint, allowing for an even coverage and a superior finish.
Painting of Metalwork
Metalwork is thoroughly prepared before any paint is applied. This involves us scraping back all loose and chipped paintwork to create a firm edge around the defective areas. We then abrade any areas of rust or oxidised metal using wire brushes and other filing tools. Areas that are defective are then ‘patched’ using a zinc phosphate primer. Once this has dried, we can start applying paint.
On all woodwork, the wood is rubbed down first using a variety of sandpapers and tools to create a surface that allows for paint to be applied smoothly. Any surface defects such as cracks or holes are filled using high quality fillers, and are then rubbed down again to ensure a consistent surface. Once surfaces are suitably prepared, we can start applying paint. We use high quality tools to apply paint, allowing for an even coverage and a superior finish. Upon completion, all jobs are cleaned, tidied and left with as little trace of our presence as possible… apart of course from the decorating we’ve done!

From May 1977 to present.
I am responsible for a team of decorators, ensuring that each job is carried out to our strict high standards. I am involved in every aspect of a job from estimating, to commencement and through to completion. I am the first point of contact for our decorators in case of any queries or problems and I also liaise with other project managers on commercial works.
