We only had one night here but would have loved longer. While I find the exterior appearance disappointing, the interior more than compensates. Perhaps because of the long term private ownership, it feels as much like a splendid home as a hotel. |We had a lovely room. Dinner was everything you could hope for. Although the portions weren’t large, with the canapés and amuse bouchée, desert was more than we could manage. |The grounds are in keeping with the high standards elsewhere, likewise the swimming pool. |The staff are friendly, efficient and a very well trained team. We arrived half an hour before check in as traffic was lighter than we thought. We were met by extremely friendly staff who took us straight to our room after showing us around the hotel, which was impressively decked up for Christmas. We were given the ‘pump house’ suite. Which was decorated beautifully and was very comfortable. |Our cream tea arrived shortly afterwards and was delicious. |We had some time to chill before our evening meal so visited the spa. The changing rooms were a little small but clean and tidy with free lockers. The facilities were excellent but we didn’t try the treatments. |Evening meal was out of this world, the staff had to make some adjustments to the menu to meet some last minute dietary requirements and they did this without flinching. It really was a high standard.|Lovely hotel, great food, friendly staff, chilled out pace, massive log fires...... ticked all boxes for me at this time of year , can’t wait to return More...

We arrived stressed and exhausted in desperate need of some time to relax and reconnect. Everything was so blissful we've spent the ten days since wishing we could go back! ||Gorgeous warm, comfortable, spacious room with comfy beds; a beautiful lounge with roaring fires, perfect for watching the dusk slowly creep in; a lakeside spa that was never too busy with a balcony hot tub surrounded by views of autumn trees; and the loveliest restaurant experience - from drinks by the fire and perusing the menu first, to bonus canopies and thoughtful touches from the chef.||It's also situated in a stunning area with lots of places to stomp around outside and build up an appetite for the delicious food... and our dog George very much approved to.||I feel wistful to be back there just writing about it! I have been coming to the Lake Hotel for many years. It started with a wedding anniversary celebration around 10 years ago and we keep coming back as we have not found a better place to relax. ||It’s the perfect place to unwind- the main house is a large Victorian Country Hotel with lovely antiques- the lounge has a fire with lots of comfy sofas and magazines and the dining room is very elegant and understated. Each guest room is different, (we have stayed in most of them over the years) beautifully decorated, always very comfortable, with gorgeous furnishings, antiques and lovely views over the grounds.||There are extensive grounds, great for walks, we love the large pool and spa- with sauna and steam room and spa treatments.||The food and service are all excellent but the best thing at this family- run hotel is the staff who are so welcoming and friendly – we have got to know them over the years and it’s always lovely to return. It's fabulous to find hotels like this which allow dogs, and Ben the Sprocker had a great time exploring their extensive grounds. My wife booked a massage before we travelled, and after her 30 minutes she booked a second one of the next day : the Spa has definitely got a lot going for it. We did two trips recommended by the hotel and were very glad we took their advice : it is wonderfully located for exploring this area of mid-Wales. Recommend it? Definitely. More...

My husband and I got married at this lovely hotel 9 years ago. We have been visiting the hotel for the past 10 years and having just returned from our anniversary visit I have to say how this place just gets better and better. The new chef they have on board is a true asset to the place and the food is some of the best we have eaten. All the staff are so friendly and can’t do enough for you. A special mention to Emily on reception who was amazing during our stay. We look forward to seeing you all again very soon. More...

We booked the main house for a special break with another couple to celebrate their wedding anniversary.|The location is beautiful and the welcome fantastic. |We were shown to our suite which was a decent size and was traditionally furnished, with a super comfortable bed. |There is a lovely large lounge with a lovely eclectic mix of furniture and curios with several snugs and alcoves too.|This was a cold weekend, however inside you would not realise - with just the smell of a traditional open fire complementing the atmosphere.|Afternoon tea / coffee with a selection of welsh cakes or scones adds to occasion.|The lounge comes into its own again in the evening to select your choices from the extensive locally sourced menu. This is best contemplated over one of their good selection of gins or a glass of wine!|Each of our evening meals was beautifully presented and was very tasty too.|Following dessert we retired to the lounge once more for coffee and to continue chatting.|I couldn’t fault any of the staff - they were a really nice bunch. It was also lovely for the owner to mingle with guests after breakfast to check that they were enjoying themselves. This happened both mornings.|My only slight negative was being on the top floor, the shower took and age to push through the hot water and the flow rate wasn’t great. However this is an old hotel and the fittings in the bathroom were very acceptable.|Unfortunately 2 nights and a busy Saturday exploring the Elan Valley and the Red Kite feeding, didn’t allow us time to try out the pool or hot tub!|I highly recommend a stay here, however next time we will make it 3 nights!! I understand they have a sister hotel in North Devon which I will aim to try this on a future occasion. More...

This old but thoroughly modernised hotel has a lot going for it : welcoming staff, a beautiful situation, comfortable rooms ( we had a suite ) and very good spa facilities . Breakfasts were good with some unusual choices such as kippers or eggs benedict cooked to order . Dinners were not quite up to the same consistent standard , with rather indifferent steak on one night but quite marvellous halibut on two other occasions . The wine list is extensive but, dare I say it, expensive as well! Would we go again Yes, certainly More...

This hotel has a lovely old fashioned elegant feel and the facilities are bang up to date. Our room was spacious and the modern bathroom luxurious, with views of the gardens, lake, golf links and surrounding countryside. Our only criticism was that the dinner offered was expensive and, although the food was good, portions were small, as was the menu choice. We feel paying per course would be more realistic. Although there was the option of eating lighter courses in the lounge, this was only offered outside of the two hour dinner slot. The staff are professional and friendly but the dinner options need to be revised in order to give guests the 'perfect stay'. We hope to go back, as we would also like to experience the spa, but we didn't have time during our one night stay. More...

Wine, I found this was rather expensive but as it was only a two night stay we didn’t mind paying it. We used the pool, jacuzzi etc which was great as the weather was very inclement. I am sorry I didn’t have any treatments in the Spa, maybe next time. The grounds were great consisting of two lakes and nice woodland walks which ran along the river.
