We have been to Kitley many times over the years and believe its recently changed hands and has had a refurb which looks lovely and you can now use rooms previously closed off. We had Sunday lunch, which was okay but not outstanding but it was still nice to visit and we will be back. Afternoon tea has always been great value and one of the best around but not had one yet with the new owners, something to do soon. More...

Fantastic hotel. You are greeted with wonderful 1 mile drive full of sights of deer and sweeping views. The staff at the hotel were wonderful, offering a really personable approach. The inside of the hotel itself is fantastic if you are a fan of either luxury accommodation or historical properties. Inside the room you are given a really good history of the house in your guest book which just added to the experience of staying in a property like this. Breakfast was the icing on the cake, well presented and cooked to order, it just felt far more special than you would imagine for a hotel of this modest price. For this price i can not think of a hotel i would recommend more. I stay away a lot for work and I can honestly say this hotel was nicer than some hotels 3 times it's price. I will definitely return if I have more work down here in Devon, I think next time I may choose a suite! More...

The bar staff and staff at breakfast were so welcoming and accommodating that it was a pleasure to hang out, enjoy drinks and a warm fire. There was no pressure from anyone and staff were respectful of privacy but knowledgeable and happy to help with anything. Kitley House struck that great people balance between being there and friendly if you need them but allowing guests to be autonomous and free to enjoy the house and their own space. The amazing grounds which go on for ages have lots of different views and walks though woodlands and streams to small gullies and a sort of lakeside beach. I recommend it. They were also very accommodating of our small dog and it was great to be able to book a bedroom for three adult sized people when so many places don't really provide for teenage children. More...

This is a fantastic Grade 1 listed building, so full of atmosphere. The staff were very helpfu, and the room was really comfortable. However, the food didn't quite match up to the surroundings. Not awful but harmed an otherwise nice stay. More...

We had Sunday lunch which was excellent, as was the service and price. The house could have been a little warmer though as we were both chilly.

This is a splendid old place set amid impressive parkland. We didn’t stay but booked in for Sunday lunch with friends. The food was good, well cooked and nicely presented, but the service was terribly slow. We arrived at our appointed time but it took them over 3 hours to serve 4 of us 3 courses! We don’t like to rush a good meal but even on a lazy Sunday we think that’s too long for lunch. We didn’t stay for coffee as we feared crashing into the afternoon tea set! More...

This large old country house, in which one can play at being landed gentry, offers fine dining in surroundings of high taste. The bar is notably gorgeous, with a patio view over the sloping grounds and slough beyond. My dinner was superb for the price: fine food, excellent wine, and intriguing choices. My base level room at the top of house was cosy quiet and well equipped. All it lacked was some bathroom shelving and a usable WIFI signal. This was strong everywhere else in the house. Staff were numerous and performed crisply with a positive energy. More...

Then it was about 30 to 40 minutes walk to the house, so i didn't waste time i thought that I would have a bit of lunch there and it was tasty to when i finished walked again back to the entrance via down the road to a bus stop; which had a shelter at least it kept me dry waiting over 1 hour for a bus never turned up. So i walked back to kitley house and had a coffee and read my paper, while waiting for a taxi to take me home; was thinking about walking home but had second thoughts about it. More...

We stopped off for a mid week lunch here and the grounds and house are stunning. Unfortunately the food was a little average.
