My experience is good but then, I work here, doing acupuncture and Chinese medicine! So far, patients like the room, and other rooms here are used by 'Fostering Compassion', a charity bringing abused children together with animals, and theflowerstudioeastlothian which does wonderful flower arrangements for special occasions, weddings etc. As a tenant I affirm our landlord is friendly, accomodating and helpful if you're thinking of running your business from here , and rent seems reasonable to me. Having several chronic conditions I was at my wits end and looking for help. Sceptical of acupuncture I thought I'd try it anyway. After my first consultation and session with Jonathan I found the results to be nothing less than outstanding! I continue to visit him regularly for treatment. He's insightfully, skilled, professional and kind. Top class! More...

In 2005, I got a DVT which resulted in 9 months on Warfarin. Coming off Warfarin led to significant amounts of fluid retention. I was unwilling to take more prescribed drugs to counteract the effects of prescribed drugs. One of my daughters suggested acupuncture - and booked an appointment for with Jonathan. I greeted Jonathan with affirmation of my scepticism. I was proved wrong: the fluid drained away within 24 hours of that first session.Since then, Jonathan has been my first port of call for medical problems. When I have a specific problem, my acupuncture visits are more frequent than when I feel fine - but I still have seasonal re-balancing sessions to maximise my wellbeing.I very rarely see my GP and take no prescribed medication or painkillers despite having been diagnosed with osteoporosis and osteoarthritis over 30 years ago. I've been to Jonathan for acupuncture for a number of reasons over the last 4 years. He's amazingly calm, caring and professional and I believe his treatments contributed significantly to me bringing 3 healthy babies into the world. I prefer to see Jonathan before I visit the doctor! More...

I went to see Jonathan several years ago when my partner and I were experiencing fertility difficulties. As a woman in my late twenties, I was slightly embarrassed to find myself talking to a man about my periods but Jonathan is very calm, genuine and professional. He was also always very good at explaining what he was going to do and what he hoped to achieve. Over the next year, I was shocked that Jonathan was able to change the regularity, consistency and colour of my menstruation--he's clearly also sorted out my inhibitions. After some time my cycle was consistently altered and Jonathan stated that everything was as it should be, so I should be able to get pregnant. This was weeks before IVF in which I got pregnant the first time. I'm writing this review as I'm convinced that Jonathan had a significant part to play in our son's conception. He is also a very kind, caring human being who listened to me when I was struggling and also lifted my mood. There is nobody else I would trust to stick pins in me.I returned to Jonathan when my son woke up every hour and I got to the point I was struggling to get back to sleep. He sorted that in two sessions. More...

In September 2017 I had been suffering from a chronic pain in my chest.

I had visited my GP who told me that it was not a medical problem, it was muscle strain. The pain was really quite severe and I have a very physical job as a housekeeper which was becoming very difficult with the level of pain I was in.

I had tried all the regular pain relief options but with no results. This is when I decided to consider Accupuncture. I met Jonathan for a chat and he explained it all and what it would entail.

He was very thorough and although I was a little sceptical I was willing to try ANYTHING to relieve this chest pain. I went along to Jonathan's place in September, it was a very pleasant and relaxing environment, very comfortable.

Jonathan again talked me through everything and carried out the Accupuncture.

Within a few hours I had certainly felt a little relief from the pain. However, within 24hrs I was completely pain free!

It felt so good to be pain free.

I did wonder if maybe the pain relief would be temporary or still come back at times, but I can honestly say that this is now December and I am still truly and completely pain free.

Thank you Jonathan! — Mechelle (49) from Edinburgh

I read Jonathan's book on Phlegm and decided to book a phone consultation to discuss my daughter's situation. I wanted to better understand her situation, get suggestions on what foods might be helpful for her, and to get an indication of what to look for as things improve - understanding that it's not the same as an in-person consultation. Over the phone, you can't look at the patient, etc. And even with pictures, the colors can be off, so it's tricky. I sent Jonathan a summary of my daughter's situation and a few short videos in advance. We just completed the phone consultation and I am beyond delighted! I was amazed at how quickly Jonathan was able to answer my questions and get right to the root of the problem. I research a lot in advance, but in the space of 1 hour he was able to suggest many things I had not yet thought of and give suggestions that I think will be very very helpful for my daughter. It's not cheap, but it was worth every penny! Thank you Jonathan! More...

Q&As

I enjoy meeting people and seeing their lives change as they get better.

For example, one young woman, an assistant hotel manager, had given up on career advancement because of severe pain. As she improved, she was able to show her real abilities and quickly achieved the position and status she deserved, as Manager of a major hotel in a much more prestigious chain of hotels.

A dislike of being employed and the chance to pursue my own interests!

Most people come because recommended by a pleased patient. I think they say that I have plenty of experience treating many kinds of problems and have a friendly but professional manner.

Also, my website and books show how Chinese medicine can explain many problems. That knowledge helps patients to understand their problems and, often, realise how they can help themselves.

I find my knowledge of Japanese acupuncture, combined with other traditions makes me nearly always able to help.

Many people, worldwide, consult me via zoom or Skype.

As I can't take your pulses the Chinese way, nor examine where it's painful or test-palpate your abdomen to help me diagnose, I can only provide a provisional diagnosis and make suggestions for further action or treatment where you live.

But even so, the perspective of Chinese medicine often helps you understand your condition better and gives hope for the future.

We follow the advice from the Scottish Government and from the British Acupuncture Council on PPE, masks, cleaning and airing rooms between patients and so on.

So far no patient has needed to self-shield following treatment. However, we have treated a number of patients with problems arising after they contracted Covid-19, ie the so-called 'Long Covid'.

Services

This harnesses the patient's own energy to heal itself. To do this it uses a tiny amount of something that, had the patient been well, would have produced the problem he has.

It seems barmy but experience over 200 years shows it can often be very successful.

Acupuncture is part of Chinese medicine which can often explain why we get sick and what to do about it.

Then , using acupuncture needles inserted in carefully-chosen places, the body can be influenced to reduce or clear pain and move toward health balance.

Acupuncture has been used for many thousands of years and is now helping people in nearly every country worldwide.

Jonathan has trained in, and uses, many kinds of acupuncture, including Five Element acupuncture, modern Chinese acupuncture, Japanese acupuncture, Korean hand acupuncture, channel acupuncture, abdominal acupuncture, ear acupuncture and Unified acupuncture.

He has lectured on it and written books about it can help you, for instance on Stress, on Phlegm, and on Burnout and Exhaustion.

If you cannot visit me, I may still be able to give you advice via an online consultation. However, because I cannot take your pulses the Chinese way, nor examine and feel where you have pain, there are limits on my ability to diagnose as fully as I would if you visited me in person. You can book this at https://www.acupuncture-points.org/video-consultation.html
