About

I have experience of working with all sorts of people and all kinds of problems. Most people when they first book a session are struggling with anxiety, worry and stress. They're typically confused, exhausted and fed up because they don’t know why, or they do but don’t know what to do about it.

Neil version 4.0 is directly attributable to John's incredible and, at times, un-nerving ability to see through the outer shell of a persons persona.

Q&As

I love helping people achieve genuine change in their lives. And it's the simple things most often, like when clients stop being on hard on themselves and they find they can reconnect to themselves in a kinder, happier way. When the space that was taken up with stress, anxiety and angst is now free to be refilled with hope, relationships and peace.
That's a hell of a turn around. That's what I enjoy most about my job.

I'd been working as a personal trainer helping client with health related goals such as rehabbing bad backs or helping people with CFS get their energy levels and health back. It became clear over time that so much of these health issues was linked to how my clients thought about themselves and how they fitted into the world (which is not the same as saying, 'it was all in their heads', but that there is a significant psychological component to physical wellbeing.)
I knew my PT training didn't really cover what I wanted to work on with my clients so I engaged in a year of training as a counsellor and then a further four years of training as a psychotherapist. I found it so rewarding and so much more impactful than what I was doing before that now, ten years down the line, almost all of my clients are psychotherapy clients.

That's a really good question because the quality of the client/therapist relationship has a lot to do with successful outcomes, which is why I offer the first session for free, for us to get a chance to know each other a bit and see if we want to work together.
I'm invested, attentive and effective. I've got plenty of tips and strategies to help people see the change they want to and I'm comfortable discussing difficult topics and experiences. I'm not what you would call stuffy, I'm happy to be direct, but I'm kind and supportive.
If you'd like a free session to see if us working together would feel like a good fit for you, I'd love to hear from you.

Services

I am a Transactional Analyst Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. In short, I help people with their mental health. That may be anxiety, depression, an issue or a relationship somebody might be struggling with.

My approach is kind, supportive and effective. I'm not shy of saying what needs to be said but I'm keen to do it in a way of lifting somebody up, not putting them down. I want to help people make the change they want to make in a way that suits them.

All sessions are confidential, professional and I comply with the ethical codes of BACP and UKATA.

Sessions are currently on FaceTime, WhatsApp or Zoom because of the Corona restrictions.
