Wow, where to begin! The moment we saw Irton Hall we fell in love with the venue. It truly is The Lake District's hidden gem.
We chose Irton Hall for our wedding venue as it ticked all the boxes, incredible building and setting (15 mins drive from Wastwater Lake), self catering cottages for family and guests, hotel for more guests and the Bridge Inn down the road for the Groom the night before and even more guests! We wanted a church wedding so the close proximity to St Paul's, Irton Church was perfect.
Once we booked the wedding we often visited with family and friends to show the place off and enjoy the amazing food, usually a Sunday roast. The food is excellent and on the wedding day all the guests said how great it was from the breakfasts provided, to the canapés, the wedding breakfast and the evening food! All exceptional.
Everyone loved the accommodation, the cottages in particular really are amazing, Broughton House is stunning and was the perfect setting for my family and bridal party to get ready.
I can't thank Martrece our wedding planner enough, there were a few hiccups during the planning stages, but these were handled so professionally she prevented me from turning into Bridezilla. Martrece and the staff really did add to our wedding day, very laid back, friendly and accommodating, the overall atmosphere was wonderful.
Thank you so much, Mr & Mrs White xxx

A really fine place. Although it's a large building, it's not full of bedrooms, which gives it a more personal feel (unlike a non descript hotel); food was great and varied; staff really helpful (they need another person in the morning though, as the main one has to serve breakfasts and also be on the main desk!); the only let down for me was that the bedroom corridors were slightly dark, even with lights on, and the rooms too ( brighter bulbs?). However, I'd definitely stay again. More...

The hotel grounds were beautiful, the accommodations completely surpassed any expectation I had. The staff was super friendly, and the atmosphere in the bar & restaurant was casual and inviting. I wish we’d had more than one night here — will absolutely make it a priority to stay here again the next time we visit the UK. More...

I can only conclude that the person who rated Irton Hall as 2* either had an agenda of didn't stay in the same hotel as I did recently. On arrival at the beautiful building we were warmly greeted by the receptionist. Our room was spacious and freshly decorated with a jacuzzi bath and separate shower. We ate in the restaurant and the food, including shin of beef, partridge and lamb were exceedingly well cooked. The butternut squash puree was a very tasty surprise. Next morning the breakfast was superb, lots of choice and the cooked items were of excellent quality and flavour. All in all I would highly recommend Irton Hall, just steer clear of Hardknott Pass if travelling from Windermere. More...

My beautiful woman found this little gem late as we visited the lakes. I can't fault the place as it is not at all pretentious.
The "wild" fowl, including peacocks roaming were free were a nice touch and the view, grounds, hospitality and service were without flaw.
We were even invited to share a night-cap between guests so the clientelle were equally pleasant.

We spent the last two nights here as my fiancée's birthday treat. It was a terrific venue, so peaceful and a beautiful setting.
We ate in the first night and enjoyed delicious steaks, cooked to perfection.
Thereafter we relaxed in the bar and enjoyed beer, real ales, a selection of gins and a lovely choice of single malt whiskies.
Our room was clean and comfortable.
Staff were friendly and provided a first class service.
Breakfast each day was superb.
Over-all a fantastic experience.

If you can handle the relative remoteness (or perhaps if you are seeking it) this is an absolute gem.
We are about to visit for the third time having discovered Irton Hall initially through a unplanned overnight stay.
Coming over the Fell road at sunset climbing into thunderous skies certainly adds to the atmosphere, and we felt as if we were en route to Dracula's Castle via the ends of the earth.
The accommodation is first class and the staff friendly - Our first stay was in the hotel in a wonderful huge room with spa bathroom at a laughable cost.
Subsequent visits have been to the Clockhouse on family holidays - dogs are welcome - which for us is a big bonus.

It was very well looked after, and the bathroom had a jacuzzi bath. And the beds were comfy, apart from one of them as one was a bit hard considering it was a sofa bed but overall it was great.
