What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
The understanding of what are clients want to say and being able to translate that into an image or video we create on their behalf makes a great photograph.
There are obviously lighting, composition, emotional and technical considerations to be included but as we create marketing content for businesses the most important thing to remember is that the imagery must translate what our clients want to say to their target market or there's simply no reason to create them.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What are the main goals of your business?
What do you want to achieve by creating this content?
Who is your target market?
What do you love most about your job?
Meeting different people, the diversity of work and being inspired by each and every challenge.
To give you an example; one day I was photographing Sir Cliff Richard at the Royal Albert Hall, the following day I completed the edit then on the third day I was photographing luxury cufflinks in the studio for an online retailer! Both had completely different technical requirements but offered amazing creative challenges in completely different environments which I wouldn't trade for anything.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I had been in the creative industries for many years owning my own brand design, print and web design company for over 10 years. After selling the business to a wealthy client I wanted to do something that fulfilled my creative needs but was quite technical too.
Personal and commercial photography are completely different beasts. I love this diversity and challenges they present, so simply love what I do.
