We currently have our 16 week cocker spaniel doing his puppy training. Maddie is so dedicated to teaching good behaviours and our Louis is absolutely loving (and learning) to be a well behaved pup!

Louis loves playing and socialising with the other dogs. He is so happy after his day there and has a well deserved sleep when he comes home. I can’t wait to see photos and read his report card after each visit. More...

Axel loves his time here and their communication is fantastic. I look forward to his report card every day he goes! (Although it'd be cool to know what we need to keep working on at home as well as all his best bits)

My 14 month old dog Sally has been going to the Hound Lounge twice a week ever since she was 4 months old. Maddie and Lisa and the rest of the Hound Lounge team are wonderful, with an unwavering commitment to all the dogs in their care. They encourage them to have fun, be silly, all whilst learning nice manners. The Hound Lounge comes highly recommended by me, and by Sally, who still excitedly rushes through the door each week! Cannot speak highly enough about The Hound Lounge! Our pup Betty has so much fun there, it has been so good for her socialisation and manners, and leaves her exhausted for the rest of the week!

My dog doesn't want to leave when I pick him up. That speaks volumes. Maddy and Lisa are super committed to the dogs in their care.

I was recommended to Hound Lounge by my dog sitter. He was no longer able to do overnights. Spoke to Ashely about coming to see the facility. She was professional with a detailed email check list. Wanting to see if the pups were a good fit for daycare. She asked for all there updated vaccines. Met Ashely and Jackie to drop the pups off. Picked them up meeting Demitree. He let me know the pups were great. Gave me details of how they interacted with other pups. They both got A+ puppy cards welcoming them back.During there for two week stay. I emailed half way though checking in. Ashley wrote back saying there great. That my dachshund is in charge of the big dogs. That wasn't a surprise to me. He grew up with 34 foster Pitt bull pups. She did let me know that at night my girl would cry some. That they consoled her to reassure her she is fine. This was a new environment for her. It's normal for pups to be unsure there first visit. I have been involved with rescue over 15 years. I see the Importance in a half day trial. Day care might not be for every pup. For some it can be a very stressful area. Where others love being social playing all day. If some pups have anxiety with barking. It does create more anxiety with pups that in the same area. I was very happy Hound Lounge wanted us back. Was happier that they were not looking at just a money option. They were looking out for the pups in day care. They want a fun playful environment for everyone's pups.Had both my pups washed by Hound Lounge Groomers. I have never had a profession wash before. I have always washed them at home. Or a pet store with washing area. Have two hounds that can smell hounds.  They came back cleaner than they have ever been. There wash lasted for weeks was so good. I even e mailed Ashley thinking her grooming staff.About the negative reviews here. I always take the positive to see how many.  With any business you can't please everyone. Yes our dogs are our children. We are very protective of them wanting the best.If Hound Lounge wasn't a caring business. They would not be operating more than 17 years. I give Hound Lounge and Staff Five Stars More...

Charlie, my Cavalier, loves the Hound Lounge and the staff have treated him beautifully. He has been groomed there several times and always with care. He has never had a nail cut too short, or a nick of any kind.I am very picky and a bit of a worrier, so to know Charlie is having fun and being treated with love, makes my leaving him for the day a worry free experience. Thank you! More...

My puppies home away from home and family away from family. This team is phenomenal. Ive been brining my pypuppy here for a few weeks and everyone the staff treats her like their own dog. They care for her while Im at work all day and I have peace of mind knowing they are helping her with basic training and making sure she gets plenty of exercise. Recently my puppy fell ill and the manager called me, urged me what to do and helped us save her life. She wont be able to go back until she has all her shots due to her lowered immune system but to have that support from them was invaluable. They text me to check up on her and say how much they miss her and its those personal touches that make a place like this feel like a family. More...

The only groomer I will use in the Bay Area. I had a groomer in San Diego, but had struggled to find a groomer that wouldn't cut my dog's hair short. They are amazing and my dog seems happy when I pick her up because they let the dogs roam in an inclosed area after they are groomed More...

I rescued Mikey two years ago.  He had extreme separation anxiety.  I needed some place safe to leave him during the day while I worked. I found Hound Lounge and couldn't be happier.  Mikey has become a calm loving dog since coming to the Hound Lounge day care.  They all take time to play, cuddle and love on the dogs.   Mikey loves it there.   When I drive him there he knows when we get close and starts getting excited.  I also have him groomed.  Britini as all the groomers do a fantastic job.  He's still not easy to groom but they handle him perfectly and he always looks great!!  I will always bring him to Hound Lounge for day care and grooming.  Mikey and I have never been so happy.  Thank you! Everyone at the Hound Lounge are absolutely amazing! You can tell they love animals because of their interaction that I see with my dogs. This is most definitely my favorite dog grooming shop to go too! If you want to spoil your dog and go somewhere with AMAZING customer service and care for your dog, I would definitely go to the Hound Lounge. They have an amazing environment for your pup and unlike other dog grooming salons that put your dog in a cage to wait they have a play area for your dog to make new friends! I have come multiple times and the dog groomer Eelan and manager Britni have always taken amazing care of my dog as he comes perfect every time. They also have new side services that added an extra touch to have my dog looking show ready! Best grooming saloon in town hands down! More...

I brought my feisty 8 month old Coton de Tulear to get groomed today. He had been wearing a cone collar after surgery and was terribly matted.  His groomer did an amazing job.  He isn't the easiest one to hold still.  Everyone is wonderful and they are so nice to these little guys.  The main reason that I was attracted to Hound Lounge is because the dogs are not caged and there is an enclosed area with other small dogs to play with until I pick him or my other dog up.  They also have 1/2 day and full day daycare.  Just a few weeks ago, they added overnight boarding.  I highly recommend Hound Lounge. We’re thrilled with the progress our nutty little 9 month old meat stick, Chewie, has made since attending day care here x2 a week. His behaviour has improved greatly. He’s generally over excited by absolutely everything- but we can see now he’s really trying to do the right thing and calm himself down. He’s walking at heel better, he’s more responsive to the commands he knows, and has much better manners. Well on his way to being a good boi, thanks to the gentle guidance of the pros at THL. 10/10! I've only ever come into this business for a nail trim/grinding for my little Ginger. This review will be about the results of that, and my experience at the location.Hound Lounge allows walk-ins for nail grooming, and they do a fantastic job! Ginger and I always leave with her nails trimmed down short, WITHOUT any nails being cut too far, and I couldn't appreciate it more. The employees are always very friendly and personable. The front desk receptionists have always been nice to chat to, and are never rude or make me feel awkward. The energy in this place just feels... welcoming! While Ginger is in the other room getting her nails done, I can wait by the front desk, pay for the nail service, and say, "Hi!" to the dogs in the daycare as they come up to greet me. By the time I learn one dog's first name, Ginger is ready to go and we are out the door to continue our day.Since I've lived in Walnut Creek, this is the only groomer I've been to and WILL go to for the foreseeable future. The SF Hound Lounge is a second home for my beloved small dog Beatrice.  Because she is high energy and needs other animals, daycare during the days when i am at work or cant take her to the park is the only solution.  Thankfully, the Hound Lounge is there for Beatrice to spend the day playing and socializing with the other dogs.  She has a good time.  I know this because she comes home exhausted and gets excited in the morning as we drive up.  The staff is always friendly, professional and welcoming.  They keep my dog happy which makes me happy. Nicci at the hound lounge is one of the most committed groomers I've ever met. She has gone out of her way to find out EXACTLY how we like the dog trimmed and she does it perfectly.  It does take awhile but mostly because she gives the dog a break in the middle so he doesn't get too frustrated and I like that. And the proof is that my dog actually WANTS to go in and see her, despite not really wanting a bath. He also come out knowing just how handsome he looks. His smile says it all. Thanks Nicci!! This review is for SF Hound Lounge and Nicci, who always takes great care of our pup Robin and we absolutely love her. Our dog Robin is a collie mix and sheds quite a bit, so we take him to Nicci for regular grooming. She always fits him into the schedule -- even if it's last minute -- and spends as much time as she needs to do the grooming right and and makes him comfortable while he is there. He loves visiting Nicci and gets excited when we walk by the shop on our neighborhood walks. Thank you Nicci!! More...

We have been taking our dogs to HL for 10 years. One of our dogs was very problematic, she was the sweetest do but she was noise sensitive to an extreme and had panic attacks. The stuff was absolutely amazing. Another one of our dogs who also passed away was getting old and was not so well and again, the staff at HL took really good care of her. All our dogs including the one we have now, have been going in every day waging their tails which means to me that they were/is happy. The happiness and safety of our dogs have been our top priority. We would have been long gone if we did not feel that this is the right place for them. More...

We recently took our little Maltpoo in for grooming. She was quite matted and needed a lot of work.  The groomers did a beautiful job on her. It took a lot of work to get her coat back in good shape. They gave her rest breaks throughout the process so that she would be more comfortable.  They were kind and gentle with her and  made the experience a positive one in spite of the amount of work they had to do on her.  She came home looking beautiful and not fearful in the least. The facility is clean and welcoming with a big play room for the dogs instead of cages. I will be back on a regular basis , and highly recommend the Hound Lounge. Prices are very reasonable too. More...

Brittany and the gals at Hound Lounge WC are the best groomers ever.  The ladies are so kind and loving to the dogs.  My baby jumps out of the car before I have a chance to put her on a leash and runs to the window of Hound Lounge to see what is going on and then goes to the front door and waits patiently for me to catch up with her and open the door so she can run in. They do a wonderful job with all breeds especially mine who has hair issues.  They manage to make her look pretty with what hair she has left.  She looks forward to her grooming and I look forward to knowing she is in good hands and I have nothing to worry about.  They also offer daycare and pet sitting.  I called last minute for a week long pet sitting and they gladly took care of my four legged babies while I vacationed and allowed me to relax knowing they were being loved and cared for. Both my dog and I love SF Hound Lounge!  We've been part of this community since my shepherd was just a pup, and I attribute a lot of her good behavior to her experiences at Day Care.  I also use their grooming services, and after some bad experiences at other locations, I can say that Ashleigh the groomer is a Dog Whisperer.  The entire staff at SFHL is incredibly well suited to working with dogs.  It's not just play time back there!  They have experience as trainers, and when I've had issues with Luna behavior at the park, I never hesitate to ask the staff for recommendations.  I've gotten so comfortable with the crew, I'm starting to leave her for overnights.  While she's happy to see me when I pick her up, she always looks like she's had a great time, and I know that if we so much as walk past the place, she wants to drag me in to say, "Hello!" What a great place with a small dog area! They take care of your pooch like they are one of their own furr-kids. Tazz comes here on occasion and he gets the socialization he needs for a grumpy old chihuahua. He prefers to watch from a distance and he gets to do that here. He still sniffs and socializes but he can also go sit in a bed with a friend and snuggle the day away and watch the other pups play. They are very in tune to what Tazz needs and his preference in play. Prices are very comparable and I love that they offer professional training sessions during daycare if requested. They also do first day report cards to let me know how my pup did and if I have any health/behavior concerns I can request an update for when I pick him up. They also do grooming! Parking is available right out front for easy drop off and pick up. Score! More...

This is definitely a long overdue review - this is  a great place if you need a flexible doggy day care for your pup! When I first got my puppy, I brought him here for day care services and Ashley and her team were very helpful, communicative, and friendly. I knew I was leaving my pup in good hands :) and it was even better to get him back all tuckered out at the end of the day. Hound Lounge is easy to get to, to drop off/pick up your pup as well! Unfortunately my dog doesn't go here anymore due to my own transportation issues, but I'd still recommend Hound Lounge for anyone in the neighborhood (Mission), or for someone who has reliable transportation to get your dog to/from. I didn't need to get any grooming services while my puppy went here, but it's really nice and convenient that they have that as an option as well - overall, great one stop shop for your pup! My dog has been at SF Hound Lounge for day care and boarding for 8+ years. I had a situation in which my daughter was very sick and had to get hospitalized right away. Then, I needed to figure out someone to take care of my dog. I emailed and called Ashley, the owner of Hound Lounge, around 4:30pm if I can bring her in on that night. She responded me immediately that I can bring her in. I didn't even know how long her boarding could be, and her  check-in was after 7pm. Nevertheless, Ashley and the staff of Hound Lounge took her in without any question. I am so grateful to have a place and people like them in our life... Also, Ashley, the groomer is fantastic. Now she takes care of my dog every 2 to 3 weeks. I don't know how she does, but every time after her grooming, my dog comes back with mellow and peaceful state. Her grooming must have some healing effect. My dog always looks forward to seeing her. More...

This review is long overdue.  Once upon a time, there was a girl who'd just gotten a brand new, 2-month-old puppy. One day, when I'd, er.  she'd.. just finished school at a coding bootcamp, she was anxiously awaiting a callback from a potential employer for an interview. What luck she had when she finally got that call!  The potential employer said to her, "please, come in on Wednesday afternoon!" This was on Tuesday afternoon.  Her husband had a meeting on wednesday, and being a first time pet-owner (guardian for you folk out in Berkeley), she wasn't ready to leave her sweet, ball of energy, er puppy alone for a few hours.  Yet, the one place she'd heard of before didn't take 2-month old puppies! In fact, there are only 2 in the entire city of San Francisco that do, and only one of them was anywhere near where she lived, and needed to go for her interview. With no car to speak of, and a puppy that can't be allowed on the ground yet because of all the nastiness that lives on the SF sidewalks, that could be a serious problem. Stress was piling on.  To top it all off, this sweet little bundle of dog is a *cue ominous music* PIT BULL MIX! *cue shame I give upon all yee who judge pit bulls* who might get discriminated against.  She frantically called the SF Hound Lounge, the one that was in/near the mission and explained the situation.  Vanessa and Ashley were amazing to talk to, and they immediately calmed her nerves, and were wonderful about letting this puppy come in for a day of daycare.  Oh, and that job - she ended up getting it.  and is now happily employed.  The puppy is now 55 pounds, 7 months old, still a huge bundle of energy, and still goes to the Hound Lounge 5 days a week. The End.So, besides the story itself.  Hiro (the puppy) absolutely loves it there, he comes home exhausted every day.   As soon as he realizes we're walking to daycare in the morning, not even an exuberant pigeon or an especially floaty leaf in the wind can distract him from getting there.  The past couple of months have been rough for him, we've found he's got a pretty sensitive stomach.  Yet, they've been super supportive the entire time, with all the different weird food combinations we've had to try.  Everyone we encounter is amazed at how much he loves people, and other dogs, and I attribute most of that to Hound Lounge. They also help out with his manners, making him sit at doorways before walking through, working on his little jumping problem, and building an awesome pack mentality amongst the dogs there (I particularly appreciate that they don't do treats, given the sensitive stomach). So, while I may be biased because they were so awesome when I was looking for a job, They've continued to be amazing for me and Hiro since that faithful day. I was traveling from Miami with my dog Macie, a very energetic 6 month old rescue. I stumbled across this cute dog boarder/groomer while roaming the neighborhood. Macie was way overdue for a nail clipping and a bath after playing in San Fran's parks. She is usually a nightmare to clip her nails but they handled her easily. I picked up a very clean, well groomed, and HAPPY pup. Very reasonably priced too! More...

I took my Pugs (Rambunctious and Lebron) to get groomed by Ashley today, and she did such a wonderful job!  She even gave them adorable bows.  They seemed to feel comfortable with her and that is always a great feeling!  Kudos to her!  Thank you Ashley! More...

SF Hound Lounge gets an excellent rating because three main things:1.  Consistency:  my dog is treated well, she comes home happy.  2.  Consistency of staff:  the regular staff are why we keep coming there.  If they should have a turn around and not have the same calibre, we wouldn't go here.  But year after year, it's the reliability of seeing familiar human faces that make the difference. 3.  Consistency in service:  They have never said "no" outright to any of my dog's needs.  For example, SF HL gives in and out privileges and my dog walker can take my dog back to HL for a wash or brush out and feed her dinner if I can't get back to the City in time. Other reasons is that it's super convenient, close and the prices are fair. They screen the dogs--so I don't think the owner will allow your dog to board with the rest if he or she has aggression/fear aggression/behavioral issues or illness.  But, if your dog is a good dog, then you won't have any problems.  Esme is an energetic Aussie.  She's been coming here since she was a puppy (10 weeks old).  She's now 18 months old (over a year and a half) and she's grown to be such a well behaved lady because we:  1. train her manners at home, 2. socialize her with other dogs outside HL and, 3. positively train her and keep her mind engaged so that she's happy and healthy.  I also think that the daily brushing, grooming and great food also make for a happy Esme. So, take care of your dog.  Don't be a careless owner who lets their dog jump on you or doesn't know manners.  Those bad behaviors rub off on good dogs which mess it up for the owners who provide 360 degree care for their dog.  She's not perfect, but I see that they love her because she's a good girl and just wants to please everyone. Staff will work with you if you specifically have to train them.  For instance, my dog needs to sit and wait before she can be let inside.  I am teaching her manners and respect; and, HL is consistent and does the same.  This helps me out at home--she doesn't charge at the door at home because she's not charging at the door at HL or the vet or any place.  Dogs are generalists. Another reason why we go here is that we've boarded Esme here and she's been treated so well.  She has a lot of friends here and leaving her at home (away from her HL buddies) is unfair.Update: They now offer grooming. And, I like the groomer's work so far. If my dog comes back muddy from a walk? I've gone in there a couple of times and have washed her. The schedule can be tight, so please call ahead. More...

Correction:  I got the names wrong.  It was actually Angela that was so helpful, not Ashley (though she has been reasonable and fine to work with, Angela really went above and beyond)Update:  After several weeks, my dog was asked to leave because he was too anxious.  Not sure what happened (though I haven't seen Angela around for a few weeks) - but had to let folks know the deal. This place is wonderful!  Every member of the staff is considerate, thoughtful, and go way, way beyond what is expected!  We got  a puppy from SPCA and immediately realized he wasn't quite ready to be left at home alone.  Given his anxiety and the fact that my husband and I both work, we were in a bit of a pickle.  I spoke with Angela and she invited Nelson, our 10 month old husky/collie mix, and me in for an interview.  She made it really clear that not all dogs are conducive to doggie daycare, so I crossed my fingers when I rode off to work.  Within 20 minutes, I got a friendly voicemail saying that Nelson was doing great and adjusting quite well.  That evening, I got a thorough follow-up on what happened (he jumped fences, but got along with everyone, didn't yelp and cry until the end of the night, and did his business no problem).  Later Angela passed along a referral for a trainer that specializes in separation anxiety - I mean, really!  Way above and beyond the essentials!  I feel so grateful that SF Hound Lounge exists and that I have a place such as this stocked full of caring, loving, intelligent, and generous folks for the newest member of our household! This is my dog Sam's second home, and he absolutely loves it here. The moment we walk through the door and he spots a staff member his tail starts wagging faster than should be possible and he is in doggy heaven. Sam's an 11 month old lab so he is normally a big bundle of energy, but by the end of a day at the Lounge he is ready to curl up on the couch with me and be amazingly well behaved. I simply don't think I could have a high energy lab like Sam if it weren't for places like the Lounge. The staff here are incredible. They're always very friendly and give me updates and little stories about Sam. Any time I need them to pay extra care or attention to something they more than happily do so.I sometimes joke that I need to setup a trust fund so that if anything ever happens to me Sam's daycare costs will be paid for life. That's how much he loves going here. More...

I have been bringing my dog, Dasher, occasionally for the past three years.  Recently I brought him in after a long hiatus, and the wonderful person greeting Dasher both remembered him and was so happy and excited to see him!  The folks here are across the board warm and friendly.  Normally, Dasher has a lot of anxiety when we separate but at SF Hound Lounge he was so excited to play with the other dogs he hardly gave me a second look goodbye.  So great to have a place I can reliably leave my dog with no notice whatsoever. I take my four legged grandson there once a week and took him there more frequently when he was still a puppy, he is nearing 2 years old now.  He loves the place and is ready for nap time the rest of the night after a visit.  I know he was definitely high maintenance in the beginning as he still doesn't lack much in the energy department, but the staff always seem happy to see him.  I think the staff are fabulous.  I have never met a group of more caring young people in any business.  Loso is happy to see all of them when I take him there.  I had another service initially and I like the SF Hound Lounge much better.  My dog went to puppy training at another place, but I know they offer that too and I believe that is a must for all dog owners.  If you train them properly when they are young they can be great companions.  I can't say enough good things about them and I think the owners are really nice people and know me whenever I go in.  I was surprised to see such a hateful review below.  The rules they have are in the best interest of all the dogs they care for.  I would recommend them to anyone. I just read the few negative comments and I was floored. The owners and staff at the Hound Lounge are outstanding, friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We have gone to the HL for over 6 years and the staff put up with our high strung and nippy puppy,  patiently helped through her "issues" and and assisted in making her a great dog. We have boarded her many times and have come home to a contented, happy dog every time. We are very fond of everyone there.Go to the Hound Lounge! You will not regret it. More...

yelp can be so harsh--especially when your customers aren't even people right? Are Doug and Ashley quirky people with odd senses of humor? Yeah, but our dog pushes open the door in the morning to get in. What else do I need to know? We almost left Hound Lounge once because Doug was concerned that our pup was having anxiety attacks as each of her little friends would get picked up before her. The way he said it scared us into looking at another place. Big mistake and we're happily back at Hound Lounge and the dog is growing out of her issues (she is still half poodle though) and Doug is actually a pretty cool guy. As for turning away a particular breed, that's one reason our dog IS there. Sorry all you fighting dog owners with your heads in the sand. More...

I've been meaning to write a review for quite some time now.   I was reading over the other reviews and although I cannot dismiss someone's bad experience, I can relate my own experiences as honestly as possible.   My sweet little "Rocky" was adopted after being found astray in San Jose.   I brought him home and it was a very difficult process at trying to socialize him because he was terrified of practically everything.   At the suggestion of neighbors in my building I decided to take Rocky to The Hound Lounge, which fortunately was just around the corner.  I began with several days per week to get him accustomed then weaned off to every Saturday when I would be away most of the day.   From the day of our first interview I felt nothing but admiration and sincere appreciation to the owners and staff there.  They were always very accommodating and when Rocky would be having problems they would be sure to update me of his visit with them.   I had never allowed previous pets to be boarded ........that is, until I started using The Hound Lounge.   Rocky simply "blossomed" over time.   Granted, I worked a lot with him but it was also the help given to me by the Hound Lounge owners and staff.   Rocky was never happier than when he got to go for the day to play with his "friends".   In fact, when we would take our early morning walks around the neighborhood, if he pulled me toward the Hound Lounge I would simply drop him off for the day.   He loved it.   Ashley and Doug were always extremely pleasant and great to work with.....their staff always had a smile on their faces and always greeted Rocky by his name and welcomed him into their "group" for the day.   I miss The Hound Lounge since I've moved to another neighborhood but will continue to use them as necessary.    I can't recommend a place more than The Hound Lounge. I have two dogs who absolutely LOVE this daycare!  My "kids" have very different personalities: the 21-month-old puppy is extremely active and highly social with people and dogs, but my 8-year-old border collieis a little more shy and aloof.  This daycare suits both of them.  The puppy can run around to her heart's content, and my 8-year-old can keep can eye on her from a quiet crate.  In addition, the amazing staff taught the puppy how to sit in only 2 visits!! (Mind you, I had given up after 3 months of trying.)Lastly, my older dog recently had major back surgery and I wasn't sure if or when he'd be able to visit.  In addition, I wasn't sure what I would do with him while I was at work since he couldn't be left alone for more than a couple of hours.  It turns out the daycare has an "apartment" next to the big playroom that was perfect for him!  The room was gated, but adjacent to the playroom so he could still watch his "sister" but keep calm and quiet while recuperating.  In addition, he had the company of smaller dogs, as well as a very caring and attentive staff. And for final proof: every time we visit, my pups RUN toward the front door and into the playroom without even turning around to say good-bye.  I'm so impressed they love it here, and I can go to work without the guilt of leaving them alone for so long. My 7 Month old Ridgeback mix has been attending daycare at "the Lounge" since she got her 3rd round of shots and I couldn't be happier with the affect it has had on her socialization and adaptability. The staff at the Lounge are courteous and attentive to the needs of each and every dog that comes in. If I ever have a question about my dog's day, I can get a full report as they are constantly taking notes on play and behavior. They even taught her a command "Enough!" that has saved me tremendous hassles at dog parks when she doesn't want to leave. Now when I say it she's at my feet in no time. The added perks of late pick up, walks and feedings at little to no extra cost, grooming and exceptional cage free boarding make the Lounge the best place in the Bay to leave your pup, rest assured they are in the best of hands. My dogs are so well taken care of here it is nuts...I have two small dogs, about 20lbs of dog between them, and they come home tired and happy.  The staff know my girls, even when we haven't been in for a month or so, meaning they actually remember my pups and they know their likes and dislikes.  One is 12 and is more easy going and likes to play with her little sister and only a few other dogs, and they accommodate that.  The other is 4 and is very silly, but since they have a group of small dogs that are apart on the weekdays they are contained and there are no issues.  Their service is unmatched.  The younger one was attacked by a dog on our street and became very skittish and apprehensive toward any doggie that wasn't her big sister, no matter how sweet they were; and once she had healed a bit and needed a day at the sitter we called to discuss her situation.  Not only had they already heard about her situation from the news paper and word of mouth, they were happy to see how she would do.  She was spooked, but with their attention she was able to just hang out in the lap of her favorite person there (or so we were told).  The next day she opened up and was much happier playing with her friends.  Nowhere else would we have received that same attention, without paying some sort of premium. We use them for overnight boarding too, and they are great! The fact that someone sleeps with them and doesn't leave like a kennel would just shows their family style care.I have never seen a huge amount of dogs, and usually I drop the girls off later in the morning when most people have already brought their pups in.  I am happy they screen their dogs and ban certain dogs that are aggressive or need more care.  I could not have a repeat of a dog mauling one of my little girls again.  I am pleased with their service always!Plus, I love that you can ask them about your do and they will write a little report card.  We once asked about our girls coming home so tired, and they gave them extra naps.  Plus it is always clean and they wash it down all the time, as a client for over 2 years I am pleased at all times! Plus the birthday treats are very cute, and yes, they remember birthdays! More...

The SF Hound Lounge is the best doggy daycare and boarding facility that I have ever come across and I've tried lots.  My dog is so happy there and she is well taken care of. I don't worry a single bit when she is lounging at the lounge. The staff knows all the dogs by name, they lavish them with attention and exercise and they remember individual instructions. I just love the staff: especially Donna, Mallory, Kendal, Karly, Ashley and Doug. When my dog has been boarded at the 'Lounge, I am relieved that she is left in such good hands. When I have called the lounge to check on Loulou, they cheerfully provide me with updates - accurate updates. I have also had the experience when picking up my dog that a staffer will come out and talk to me about loulou's day. They are helping me get Lou into a little better shape, so that she can take off a slowly creeping pudge.  I feel like we are a team taking care of my darling dog. I know you cant please everyone, but this place really tries. My dog is so anxious to get out of the car and into the building that we actually have to practice ' wait' , and no leash pulling on the way to the door. He pulls me toward the place. And why not Lots of dogs to play with, friendly positive staff, and they steam clean the place !  Its really clean. We have been taking our dog to SF Hound Lounge for over a year. We have had an excellent experience. Our 17 month Australian shepherd runs to the door every morning, and it is even faster after a long weekend. When he sees the staff, he snuggles up and starts whining out of excitement. The staff is considerate, caring, and responsive. They communicate consistently about our dog's day and anything that we need to be aware of. Our dog couldn't be happier. He comes home a content, well socialized and tired boy, and for that we couldn't be happier. I appreciate the staff and owner's desire to make sure that the dogs are happy and not aggressive. As a result, our dog (who started at Hound Lounge at 16 weeks) is very well socialized with other dogs because he has not had negative or aggressive encounters. I know that my dog is safe and as I said, I appreciate that. I believe this is a very good place for dogs of all ages since they have a smaller dog/puppy play area, larger play area, and an area for older dogs that just want to kick back and relax. I couldn't be happier with SF Hound Lounge and have recommended it to many other owners. More...

Two facts: Dogs want to play with other dogs (unless they have some serious issues) and Humans love their dogs most when they're just hanging out, totally beat from playing all day. Both happens when you leave your doggy in the trustworthy hands of the Hound Lounge staff. The place is safe (they don't even allow you to drop of your dog if he's sick), fun, clean and affordable. My little Napoleon has come here twice now and we love the place! He comes back to me tired from playing (I hope!). The staff is very friendly and they're always willing to write a "report card" so you know how your doggie did that day. Doug, the owner, is cool and always nice. They remember your dog and who their "buddies" are. There is always someone in the small dog area so that they are being constantly supervised. Only downside are the prices, $38 per visit unless you get a package and also it's indoors only. The only time they get fresh air and sunshine is when they get walked. Also, you can just drop off your dog without calling in, so they don't limit the number of dogs there. The small dog area just didn't seem big enough to accept an unlimited amount of dogs. I guess there are pros and cons of being able to just drop off your dog.All in all, Poli head and I love this place and I just bought a package for 10 visits at $350. This means we're here to stay! An update, as my last review is now (gulp!) years old.  We still LOVE the SF Hound Lounge, they are very friendly and attentive and we really appreciate the screening process they go through with their dogs.  It makes for a very secure and safe environment for all the pooches they care for during the day and night (yes, they do overnight boarding too!).Our Ruth Ann LOVES coming here -- she plays, naps, and knows all the staff on sight and instantly starts wagging her tail so hard her entire butt is waving.  A good sign.  Also, their attention and care for their charges is top notch -- if any issues are noticed (Ruth Ann was squinting out of one eye last week) they immediately call and let you know and have even offered and escorted the dog to the Vet nearby -- what service! On top of the daycare and boarding, they offer baths, nail clipping, and brushouts for dogs as well.  Great job Doug and Ashley! My little Bella Valentine is such a doll.  She's been to Hound Lounge 2x now, and every time she comes back home shes so tired - its great!  Haha.  Since she's still a puppy I like to know how she did at daycare, who she plays with, if she went poop/pee on the grass, if shes being good etc, and they have no problems with letting me know.  She also doesn't come home smelly like I thought she would.  The front office staff knew Bella V only after seeing her one time!  Just one little hicup in the service.  I had called to make a reservation for Bella V for the first time and the receptionist who picked the phone up told me that "Tuesday, is a very busy day, especially for a puppy, blah blah, I'll take your phone number down and I will check to see if we can fit your dog in."  So I called back later that afternoon since I didn't get a callback and spoke with another lady - and she reassured me that Bella V can be taken in the day I wanted - since I WAS BUSY THAT DAY - duh.  Anyhoo.. very happy with how they treat my little girl. Updating my review from 2 years ago:My experience at the Hound Lounge has been more than I could ever want for the Gib-dog. He loves it there; he spends long weekends 'Lounging' around when we have to travel out of town. We spent T-Giving in SoCal and he unfortunately wasn't invited but we didn't worry since he shacked up at the HL for 5 nights. When we picked him up we were so excited to see him and to our surprise they had given him a complimentary bath. I don't know what shampoo they use but I need to get some, it blows the 'buddy wash' we use at home out of the water. I have read some of the other reviews and people say they have too many dogs here but I'm not sure what they are barking about. The other day cares might as well be called kennels. Dogs stuck in cages that get a 15 minute play time for every 4 hours in the cage....sounds like prison to me. Besides a few crates in a segregated area to give dogs a private lunch the dogs are free to roam, play or hang out in one of the many dog houses. Anyway I am glad they make the interview process difficult, not everyone should own a dog and not every dog should be allowed in day care. If you are upset your dog doesn't get into daycare then wait until you try to get a child into school in this city! Kudos to the Hound Lounge and I look forward to many more years of sharing our mutual love for my dog Gibson.1998Gibson has been going to the Hound Lounge for a couple of weeks now. He is a 5 month old Golden and not only has the HL been great for socializing our puppy but it's clear he would rather spend his days there than lounging at my office. He drags me in the AM never looking back as he is escorted to the play room, and at the end of the day he wags his tail (and butt) when I pick him up. We love our dog, we love living and working in the city and the Hound Lounge is the middle man holding it together for us. More...

H is a well loved dog (see other reviews that are H focused..about 80%).  His mom and dad are over protective but realize he IS well, a DOG, even though we like to think of him as a child in furry, 4 legged form.  As a dog, his favorite thing in the whole wide world is to play with other dogs.  He is also a mere 15 months and has A LOT of puppy energy.  He gets to run it off about twice a week at SF Hound Lounge where he is just the happiest dog you'll ever see.  He cries about 3 blocks away (heaven forbid we are just passing by) and gets all excited.  Once we pull in the driveway and I open the door, he loses it and does his weird doggy circle dance and   bounds in there.  He does not notice me when I leave (contrary to when I leave him at home) and when I pick him up in the evenings I have to bribe him with a treat (nicely provided in a treat jar by the door) to leave.  Doug, Ashley and the staff are super nice and are great with dogs.  H boards here as well and we feel good about leaving our baby here.  He gets either home boarded or stays in their loft upstairs with their staff overnight.  During the day he is a regular day care client.  He is never left alone.  He is always happy and smelling good when he comes home.  Thanks to SFHL for taking such good care our lil 4 legged baby.  This is your happy free roaming, doggy play time.  No 23 hour kennel for our pup. We're pretty satisified with Hound Lounge. Mainly because the owners and staff truly like dogs. I feel my baby is in good hands. He's never gotten sick. He comes home completely exhausted, just the way I like him. More...

If Boston loves it (I am only speculating he likes it--b/c he has yet to talk to me, even though I seem to talk to him as if he undersatnds a damn word I am saying)...then it works for me.  Ashley and Doug rock.  As for those with bad experiences...I wonder how much of it is your dog.  My caveat to all dog owners, I know we all love our dogs (especially those in SF) but you know what....they are still animals and their actions are unpredictable.   Oh btw--the poster who suggested wags...I hope your pooch enjoys their 2x2 cell for 23 hrs a day. Bella had a great day here. She came home completely wiped out (which was a blessing). She made new canine & humane friends to help socialize her. After her traumatic stay at the fancy & overpriced kennel, she was pleasantly surprised and thanklful for the people and environment here. More...

Tyson absolutely LOVES this place! He cries in the back seat when we're just heading in their direction. If it were up to him, I think he'd rather be there than any place else on earth. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They treat every pet as their own and you can tell they truly enjoy what they do.The picture added of the sad looking little brown lhasa apso is my Tyson on his first day at daycare. The picture does not reflect how he feels about the place now!! :) More...

We are big fans of SF Hound Lounge - you can not ask for a better situation for dog day-care!   Our dog Sabrina goes there and it's an excellent place for day care, exercise, and meeting her fellow pals on a regular basis!Doug, Ashley, and the Hound Lounge staff are unparalleled in their care for the dogs, upkeep of the facility, and knowledge of each of the dogs.  It's like a second home:  Sabrina arrives excited and comes home happy and tired! The location and hours are great, too - if you are considering a fun, trustworthy, social day care environment for your dog, look no further! My Boston Terrier, Kennedy loves the Lounge. She comes home exhausted, well exercised, and with bloodshot eyes, having played all day (when she is used to sleeping most of the day). Ashley, Doug and the entire staff take a special interest in your pet, as if your pet is their own. In addition to the excellent reviews below, here are some bonus points: parking for drop off and pick up is super easy; they offer discounts if you buy daycare in bulk, they walk your dog up to twice a day, it is cleaned and disinfected often, the dogs get birthday and holiday presents. How thoughtful is that!  I completely trust Kennedy in their care. More...

My girl Cuba is one of the most important things in my life.  I treasure her companionship, loyalty, and unflagging high spirits.  I take my responsibility as her guardian very seriously, so I looked at a number of dog daycare facilities before deciding on SF Hound Lounge.  In the year and half Cuba has been going to SF Hound Lounge my respect for their highly professional and abundandtly loving work has increased every day.
I recently considered a facility SIGNIFICANTLY closer to my work, but after visiting their generally nice facility I realized just how brilliant the folks at SF Hound Lounge truly are.  I trust without reservation that they will always treat my little treasure with ultimate wisdom and love.
Don't even consider any other dog daycare.

In addition to all of the positive comments listed by other reviewers, I'd like to add the following:  1)  the staff know my dog on sight (and vice versa), 2)  the staff actually CARE about my dog-- they look after her health and they always keep a dog's personality and tolerances in mind when exercising them in a group, 3)  some of the best pictures I have of my dog is of her having fun with her buddies at Da Lounge, and 4) my dog is never happier than when I saw those two words "hound lounge".  As an occasionally neurotic dog parent, I can't think of a better place for her to be! These people run a tight ship, they are open 7 to 7, and for busy people it is incredibly convenient and provides peace of mind versus other options.

We'd tried several dog daycare places in the city before we found the Hound Lounge. This dog daycare is definitely top notch. There is lots of space for the dogs to play. They have tunnels and slides my dog just loves (the highlight, though, has to be the fire hydrant in the sand box where the dogs are trained to do their business).   The staff is absolutely wonderful, and the dog-to-staff ratio is better than anywhere else.In addition, I know that my dog is very safe at this dog daycare. They have a great screening process that prevents a dog with behavior problems from getting in. This may have upset other reviewers, but it guarantees the safety of the majority of dogs. More...

Popcorn goes there and she LOVES it.  She gets to play with all of her friends and it is a pretty regular crowd.

Helping people love their dogs is an honor. I never take that for granted and thus always work as hard as possible.

Seeing dog care options that I didn't think were viable.

The owner and managers of Hound Lounge facilities are boots on the ground. Being physically on site with constant communication amongst each other is how we ultimately offer the best care possible.
