Can't believe I only found out about this place now! Amazing fully vegan menu with lots of different choices, all at fab prices! Even had raw vegan options. The best chocolate pudding I have EVER had in my life (including before I was vegan)! A few shelves with vegan products on offer (books, sweets, toothbrushes among others) which was a really nice touch! Extremely friendly staff, can not fault the place at all. All i would suggest is maybe getting more seats because as more people find out about this place it will be queued out the door! Absolutely LOVED my experience here and will definitely be back! Since first visiting GrassRoots not long after it opened, it has grown in its range of food options, vegan staples to purchase and client base in the community. The homemade veaty seitan and fresh dressings are incredibly tasty and there is a tremendous range of teas and oat milk as standard in hot drinks. Of course it is also a great place to sample a Doughnut Family doughnut or Cool Jerk pie. The owners develop a wonderful rapport with customers and it is a genuinely welcoming and cosy cafe. More...

Found this little vegan gem in Tollcross (Edinburgh) amongst all the great charity shops and fab new cool coffee hangouts. I sampled the Jack fruit and avocado wrap and it was super tasty. Had a good chat with the owners around products and general veganism which l found very informative. Also bought some nutritional yeast to try in my cooking. I'll definitely be back for an oaty coffee sometime soon. It's just off the Meadows and along with The Forest Cafe, Tollcross is looking like a great destination for vegan food. More...

You have to go here!! This is my new go to vegan cafe in Edinburgh. The owners are so lovely and great to talk to. The food is excellent quality and full of flavour! I purchased the seitan roll with cashew cheese and kale, it was yummy!! I highly recommend it. I also purchased a chocolate raw cake, that was great too. The customer service is excellent, vegan places are limited in Edinburgh and out of all the vegan cafe's I have visited there, this is by far the best one. More...

As most of you know I went through a bit of a change over the last year. I became vegetarian moving towards vegan (stopped eating earthlings) and in the process lost over 20kg. What you may not all know is that most of this was due to my wonderful wife Joanne Thomas who studied and designed a nutrient rich and great tasting meal plan to help get me through the transition. Now my weight has been stable for over 6 months and I exercise less and feel better than I ever have before.

If you need any proof that you are what you eat then just look at my photos. : )

My friend and I spent a goodly time here on 14th September on our visit to the Capital from Peterborough (England). What a delight it was to meet such well informed, helpful and just plain nice owners! Lunch was a delight too. I was visiting to look for my son who has various food intolerances and Jo and Dean were most informative and helpful on so many things. We came away laden with goodies but more than that we came away with a real feeling that we had learnt a lot. For a wee shop you pack a big punch! Wishing you all the best as I am sure you will go from strength to strength, it is just a shame that in the city I live in there is nothing like this. By the way the yeast extract has gone down a bomb, it is delicious and I look forward to cooking with the other foods I bought. Our visit to you was one of the highlights of our short stay in Edingburgh, a real delight to meet you. Many thanks xxxx More...

I absolutely love this place and it is currently my favourite vegan place in Edinburgh! I've been here many times and every time the food has been amazing. Today i tired the falafel wrap with spicy sause and it was simply delicious. The food is great quality, very yummy and the prices are very good. Quite cheap for what you get. I have also had the raw dishes and they have been the best thing ever! Only place in town that you can get such good raw food that it's not just salad. I've had veggetti bolognese, tacos and zucchini lasagne! I can't reccomend them enough! Such a treat, especially for foodies. I also love the place as in the atmosphere and the owners are such lovely people. They are doing beautiful job with this place! More...

Q&As

What you eat every day is a far more powerful determinant of your health than your DNA or most of the nasty chemicals lurking in your environment.

Helping people to achieve health and wellbeing by making simple diet and lifestyle changes that bring real benefits.

I discovered raw vegan food as a treatment for the chronic illness and pain that I lived with for over 20 years. In 2014 I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis and was put on a plethora of medications for symptom control, which left me extremely lethargic, and in constant severe pain which negatively effected my moods. Due to the dangers involved with the conventional treatment I decided to find alternative ways to treat myself and began the journey of training as a certified nutritional therapist and raw food coach. I now want to share that knowledge with others.

Our physical and mental health is under constant attack from the air we breathe, the food we eat and the society we live in. My passion is to bring healing and health to others to help them find their happy selves again through food and nutrition. I help my clients, who include children, adults, seniors and families, guiding them on their journey to healthier lifestyle that can be maintained for evermore.

I know that no single approach is the right one for every individual, and so my programmes are created individually, tailored for my clients needs and wants. These programmes draw on my education in Psychology, Nutritional Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy as well as being a trained Master Herbalist, Aromatherapist, and Raw Food Coach and Chef.
