I have nothing but praise for the great job that GDB have done. Quoted 12-15 weeks, the work was finished in ten to a very high standard. They took the additional work in their stride, and any glitches were sorted with the minimum of fuss. I didn't get any sense of integrity or knowledge on loft builds. We received a quote from good design and build. They had left out a substantial price of the project, which I noticed when I had a quote from another builder. When I asked Amol about it, he said 'don't worry, it will be a minimal difference'. When I rang he was speaking in circles without giving a direct answer when I asked "Is it included, or not included in your quote." Because I had done my homework I was able to press a bit more and this is where the facade quickly crumbled. "I called the company and received a £11K quote for us to be compliant, are you saying that is included in your quote, the £11K, you've accounted for that." And then Amol said "ok you use them, and then we will do the rest of the build" - ok so when were you going to tell us this? Overall, he did not understand building specifications and thank goodness we didn't go ahead or we would have a ~£11,000 surprise, and an 8 week lead time on a £55,000 quote. I believe this is because he is not a specialist in lofts, but it is up to them to quote accurately. More...

We used GDB for the architectural design of our house. They explained the process well at the outset. They provided us detailed drawings of our property and did the alterations where needed. Ben was very helpful and responsive, did a number of calls with him to go through the design. We hired Good Design and Build (GDB) for to carry out a rear extension, loft conversion and full refurbishment to our newly bought house in London. GDB was efficient from design to completion, helped us secure planning consent, did technical drawings and managed the build to completion. We needed an open plan kitchen to the rear and an integrated garden with the living space. GDB created a perfect layout to achieve this and maximised natural light. We recently had a ground floor extension completed on our semi-detached house in East Sheen. The extension was a ground floor extension at the back of the house to increase the size of the kitchen and ground floor of the house. The overall size of the extension was about 35 square meters. I approached a number of companies and picked GDB as they provided a detailed specification and competitive price. The contract covered the complete build including the architectural drawings completing the planning application/approval. The building work started at the beginning of September 22 and finished in December 22. The quality of the work was of a high standard and also completed quickly, with the minimum disruption. Additional items were added but always explained and justified by GDB and the builders. We had regular (weekly) meetings with Nuan (the GDB Project Manager) and he supported us well, giving good advice on issues that arose during the build. I recently used GDB architectural services and building contractors to build a side infill extension at the rear of a 1930s house. Hadi Kaiser from GDB was the project manager. Hadi was great he visited the property once a week to ensure everything was progressing according to plan and was always available to listen to any concerns and resolve any problems that occurred immediately. Adrian Gavril the builder from GDB and his team were also great. They were courteous and very professional, Basically Adrian brought my vision to life and I am extremely pleased with the end result, which is now a beautiful and very comfortable home. We used GDB for a hip to gable and dormer loft extension, as well as for creating an open plan kitchen/dining/living space at the back of the house. The work started in November 2021 and was scheduled to be completed in March 2022. In the end things finished up in April 2022, not least because we decided to redo the first-floor bathroom as well as complete the work originally specified. Apart from the extras there were no unexpected costs, and the work was completed to the agreed budget. Sapna and then Nuan from GDB came along weekly to check up on how things were progressing. I have never had the experience of working with such an incompetent, lazy and uninterested company before in my life.

Good Design are anything but! They were inept and totally useless. They fell out with the builders and so communication was a joke. I did most of the liaison with the builders and am still awaiting final paperwork for our kitchen extension which was completed 6 months ago! They have refused to do any more work.

I would absolutely not recommend these crooks who walked away with 17K for doing absolutely nothing! They should not be allowed trade in my opinion. More...

We used GDB in 2021 for a kitchen extension on our Victorian terrace house. We are very happy with the end result. Adrian and his team were our builders and they did an excellent job. The team worked extremely hard through Covid restrictions, supply shortages and bad weather, and finished the job in good time. Despite some initial communication issues with the original project manager, after GDB brought Hadi onto the project, everything was much smoother and even an enjoyable experience. Domestic builds can be infuriating, particularly when you stay living on site as the work goes on around you, but GOOD Design & Build - with Hadi Kaiser project managing and Adrian Gavril building - have done a great job on our single story extension, downstairs WC and interior ‘opening up’. It’s true there were delays and we were sometimes frustrated trying to get clarity about when and how issues would get resolved, but Hadi was always accessible and responsive to our concerns, and we can’t fault Adrian’s work and that of his team. Does that mean it was all plain sailing? No. But would i recommend GDB and consider them for future work? Absolutely. It’s particularly commendable that they pulled this off during mid Covid pandemic, with building supply shortages as well as a fuel crisis to contend with. We had a side infill and rear ground floor extension, along with complete refurbishment of our entire mid-terraced house (ground, 1st and 2nd floors) in Strand-on-the-Green, Chiswick in September 2020 - April 2021. We chose GDB as we were impressed with Amol's attention to detail on initial consultation. He was also the only company owner to provide a fully itemised quote and transparency from the outset was very important to us. From design through to planning, party wall, build, finishing and snagging, we felt extremely well supported. We were extremely hands on as owners (to put it euphemistically!) and Amol and the team were very accommodating to that attitude and level of involvement throughout all stages. To say we are happy with the overall result would be an understatement. It was also completed to time and budget, which considering the fact that the work was done over a COVID Winter period, is pretty remarkable when we think about it retrospectively. As with any project, especially of the size we had, things inevitably can and do go wrong. Apart from the quality of the work, the second most important quality in a design and build company is probably how they react to adverse events. Amol is a highly trustworthy individual and so this was done in an honest, accountable and fair manner. We used GDB for a kitchen extension combining an old kitchen, side return conservatory, corridor and dining room into one lovely open plan dining and kitchen space.

Adrian and his team did an excellent job under difficult circumstances as Covid and supply issues meant the works were late in competition. We remained living in the house during the works and the builders were always considerate of us and our young children.

We are extremely happy with the result as it has added a new heart to our house and is where everyone congregates.

We have undergone a loft extension and 2 floor renovation with GDB and unfortunately our experience has not aligned with all the reviews seen online.

Throughout the time of our collaboration (around 6 months in total) we were shocked by GDBs overall work. At most we were able to get the project manager to our flat once a week - and that only after we had to call them several times to please give us an update. At some occasions, the project manager didn’t event visit the property for a few weeks in a row.

The overall communication was extremely unfriendly, which we found very surprising as it all started very professionally and competently. However, as soon as the first payments to GDB were made, the quality and quantity of their work went don’t rapidly.

The biggest issue came after 6 months, as we started to see cracks in our floor structure. Although we had a written contract that included structural calculations, it turned out that GDB has never done any. After further investigation, we even found out that GDB has been withholding information from the building regulator, who strongly advised GDB to not continue any work, before structural calculations are done.

All in all, the work with GDB has led to over 4 months of delays, an increase in anticipated cost of more than 100% and GDB is still filing a lawsuit against us as despite all the quality of work and obvious mistakes, they are now asking for even more money than originally agreed in the contract.

I wouldn’t wish anyone to have such a building experience, hence I would recommend to not choose GDB for your projects More...

We have had a horrendous experience with this company, whom we commissioned in good faith to build our side and rear single story extension. We would love to hear from anyone else who has had a similar experience.

Following Amol (from Good Design and Build)’s sales pitch, primarily that he would personally oversee our project from design to completion, we need to highlight how inaccurate this description was. All Good Design and Build did was sub-contract building work to other firms over whom they had no control. There was no oversight or management from Amol, and once the contract was signed contact with him was minimal and sporadic.

After repeatedly giving Good Design and Build the benefit of the doubt that they would complete our project, we finally terminated the contract with them some 3 months after the projected build should have been finished. We were left almost £10,000 out of pocket with problems too numerous to mention, and have had to pay other contractors to complete the build to an acceptable standard.

Good Design provided the architectural services as well as building work. It was great to have both bundled into one. They were very flexible and great to work with - nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend them.
