I stayed overnight at The Glenmorag after booking for their Christmas Evening. ||Glenmorag is one of those wonderful hotels from another era with a grand staircase leading off the reception area (there is also a lift) and hidden gems such as a Library with cozy seating area, on the first floor. ||The room itself was extremely clean, water in the shower was plentiful and hot, bed very comfortable, tea-making facilities were provided and the bonus was a magnificent view of West Bay and the Clyde.||The evening was very well organized. In the imposing ballroom the tables were set with small bags of chocolates, party hats and Christmas Crackers. A buffet was included in the price of the ticket and the food was plentiful, varied and delicious, everything from hot main meals, to sandwiches and sausage rolls, burgers, a variety of salads and wonderful deserts. ||The entertainment (Sassy Striker, a drag artist) was hilarious and kept the audience in gales of laughter over two, long, sets.||Throughout the very busy evening the staff was professional, efficient and very, very pleasant. I felt that they all wanted to ensure that their guests had the best evening ever and enjoyed every aspect of their time at Glenmorag.||After a restful night’s sleep I tore myself away from Glenmorag but I will definitely return.||Well done and thanks to all for such a great evening and overnight stay. Well just back from a 4 night coach trip with Urquhart coach holidays . Our coach driver Kjell (aka Alf ) was a great driver . Got to hotel about 6pm after a very smooth journey . Got room no 71 overlooking the Clyde ( fabulous view ) twin beds pushed together (6ft wide in total ) very comfortable ! Room was a bit dated but very clean . Went down to dinner and must say it was delicious ! The home made soup every night was gorgeous . Breakfast next morning was a choice of cereals , grapefruit , prunes , orange juice and porridge . Then you got a full English if you wanted . Plenty of toast butter and jam and marmalade as well .|Dinner had to be ordered for that night at breakfast . Choice of starters , meat of fish main course with seasonal vegetables and salads . Must say every meal I had was lovely . |Entertainment was ok , Scottish musician and a lovely little demonstration on Scottish dancing by 2 young girls . Next 3 nights were singing acts but all ok . |Staff were brilliant , very efficient and friendly at all times ,|Yes the floorboards are creaky but the building is 200 years old ( I’m creaky and I’m only 64 )|Went on 2 of the 3 free trips out ( Oban and Inveraray ) and they were really good . Went into Dunoon town on the day we didn’t go on the trip to Loch Lomond and it’s a lovely little town . Had a few drinks in a couple of the pubs then decided we were hungry so went into the Swallows cafe to get a takeaway sandwich each . Came beautifully presented in a lovely cardboard box with fresh salad and homemade coleslaw for the princely sum if £2 !! Went into Sinbads bar and the lovely lady says as they didn’t serve food we could eat our food in there . Sandwich was delicious and Sinbads is lovely .| Had breakfast on our last morning and picked up our packed lunch we had ordered for the coach trip home ( lovely sandwich , crisps , water and biscuits all for £5 ) |Had a lovely smooth journey home stopping off at Moffat and then another services near Lancaster . |All in all had a great time and would definitely return . |Yes the hotel could do with a bit of tlc but you cannot beat the value for money in this trip .|Thank you Urquhart travel and Glenmorag hotel staff for a lovely break , hope to see you again soon ! We have just returned from a 5 day break from the Glen Morag Hotel, the hotel is dated but what do you expect from an old Manor House . We were a party of 7 with ages ranging from 38 to 65, all of us throughly enjoyed the break. The staff here could not do enough for all of the guests . Like I’ve said the rooms are dated but they are updating the rooms but with more than 70 rooms this does take time & money but for we’ve paid I honestly don’t know how they did this for the money, I’ve stayed in 5* plus hotels & not received such attentive treatment . The rooms were clean, bedding was clean & the food was spot on. ||The only downfall I can think of was the shower , it could do with improving but then again at home I do have a power shower I don’t live in a old building. ||As I’ve said the food was spot on. Breakfast there was loads of choice with cereals, porridge , fruit & a full breakfast. At night it was a full 3 course meal & if there was something you didn’t like the staff went out of their way to make you something you did. The staff never stopped !! The food came out piping out & was like good old fashioned food , this made quite a change from frozen chips from what you’d usually get! ||There was entertainment on at night which was a singer , Scottish dancing , the drinks were great . 30 bob bar! On the Thursday one of our trips was half a day so we came back with the chip shop , Linda the hotel manager couldn’t do enough when asked if we could get tea, she brought teas out & even biscuits for us! As I’ve explained the hotel||Is dated but this is an old building but they are improving this but it’s clean , the food is amazing & the staff can’t do enough for you! Thank you for our stay ! I can't believe some of the reviews for this hotel I read before my visit. To say the least, we are suitably impressed with our stay last week. ||We were on a David Urquhart tour which also exceeded expectations. We were late arriving (nearly 8pm) but the hotel staff laid on a lovely meal for us as soon as we left our coach. Then up to our rooms. We had a Sea View, which was magnificent.||Over the next few days, the food was very good...not what we were expecting from previous reviewers. The staff were brilliant! Courteous ,helpful, pleasant and always there if needed. ||The hotel itself was a bit "tired". Very creaky floorboards and lots of stairs, but it added character to the stay. The only downside was the TV in rooms . Only 2 or 3 channels available and receptions very poor...that needs looking into.||But, overall, it was a lovely stay and I would recommend this tour and hotel to anyone. More...

We had a clyde view room, which was very roomy with bath and shower, and twin beds, and was very nice. The meals were ok, good choice and plentiful, only gripe was you had to pay extra for cheese and crackers , and kippers at breakfast, which on all the tours weve been on, its unheard of, not sure if its the hotel or the tour company. A perfect base for exploring parts of the area. And there's sometimes some big surprises when you go out on a trip arround the Cowal area of Dunoon. The picture I have included is a carving done by a former Employee of the Forest Commission who sculpts wood to produce terrific benches and other smaller items and sculptures of intricacy - many of which can be seen in Dunoon, itself. His tools AREN'T chisels or files. But chainsaw of various sizes. And as you can see. Of a very high standard and quality. He sells these to the general public for between £3.50 to almost £1500 a time. And that's just one example of the qualities of coach holidays in Britain and Scotland itself. Other trips take you to Oban and Inveraray and on the current one. I am tracking toward Loch Lomond at Luss and the Lomond Shores centre. These and one or two places are on the David Urquart brouchurs. This has been of excellent value and quality. Well worth coming in - under my minimum holiday expend by £24 or so. And a solid introduction to Scotland too. If you are going the First time to this land. Especially if coming under estimated budgets. The Hotel Glen Morag used to be a Guest House, expanded in the 1890's and further updated in the 1920's and was expanded to more or less it's current size in 1968. But it is a Victorian building and many of the character pieces still remain in the place. Rooms are comfortable and adequate to the point. The current owners have maintained it's ambience and wonder. Very well indeed.Situated at the edge of the small town. It overlooks into the Clyde Estuary and is - despite being only 45 minutes from Glasgow - one of the most picturesque hotels in Scotland.I have checked out other reviews of this Hotel and whilst I don't hold major qualms - I believe that a number of these - have not been entirely fair. I like the location and the decor of the place - maintenance has kept it in reasonable condition and I wasn't uncomfortable in that hotel. Whose staff have been excellent throughout my stay from the 13th to the 17th May. I believe that the gripes on the hotel's appearance is just that - simple gripes. A hotel in Scotland has it's own charms and character. The Glen Morag is this. And I believe that it outstrips any negatives by substantial margins. More...
