Hi all, I would not normally review a place, however, after hearing a group from another tent moaning about the weather and the cold and then hearing that they would all leave separate 'BAD' reviews because they were unhappy seemed very unfair to me. (As you can probably see by the latest reviews).||||||After experiencing a weekend at Oak Lodge Retreat I thought I would share my family of 4's experience.||||What we expected: Bloody terrible weather, yes Britain in October is, so we were expecting this, be prepared and you will be fine, they even sent us a nice email suggesting extra layers.||||What we didn't expect: ||A warm welcome by Andrew, helpful & polite and always on hand to lend a hand. (Even though we are ultimately camping and should fend for ourselves).||||Large, cosy tent, made even cosier with the great heaters that can be hired from reception.||||Clean toilet and shower block with hot water, we did struggle with the water temperature but realised we were turning the tap the wrong way. You have your own individual toilet block with shower toilet and sink in.||||Lots of great little touches, all crockery and cutlery included, gas BBQ free to use on each tent, comfy beds.||||The food from Steves Shack is top of the bill, using local stuf to cook up a treat.||||The ethos of Oak Lodge Retreat is to take advantage of 'doing nothing' other than spending quality time with friends and family, even with the weather we had the best time ever, playing board games & cards in the enormous tents, still able to knock up a BBQ meal and then toasting marshmallows around the campfire, we were a little out of our comfort zone but thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have already booked for next year.||||Oak Lodge, do not change what you have, it is perfect, we needed to escape from the rat race and this was totally that. Excellent get away. Lovely and quite, allowing the kids to explore the outside and for me and the wife to have a much needed break. A well ran and inviting campsite, the only negative was the weather. We shall be back next year! More...

I booked 2 Bell tents for my daughters 16th birthday. We brought 3 of her friends, plus myself, my husband and other daughter. So 7 in total.||On arrival (we were late) Paul was ready to meet us at reception. He had waited half an hour for us, and didn't even show any upset. Was just pleased to see us. He gave us our breakfast vouchers, and told us everything we needed to know. He was extremely welcoming. On first glance at our tents, they were spotlessly clean. It was very dark so couldn't get a clear view of everything.||Come the morning though, we had a proper chance to look around. Everything was such a high standard. Towels were provided, as was tea and coffee making facilities. The beds were comfortable and the linen was spotless.|| There was a little games room where you can charge phones etc. ||||We went along to Steve's shack for breakfast to be greeted by the chef Andrew. ||Again very welcoming, and seemed nothing was too much bother.||I had pancakes for breakfast which were lovely. And others had the breakfast roll. All very enjoyable.||||We then headed over to the sauna and hot tub, which Paul had already prepared for us, as we mentioned we were going after breakfast. ||Literally nothing is too much trouble for these guys!||||The kids loved the hot tub and sauna, and later on in the day asked Paul to relight it for them to go back in!||||The showers and toilets were always clean and tidy. There are signs everywhere asking to be considerate of other guests. So if shoes are muddy, take them off before entering the bathrooms, there is also a mop provided if you do make a mess. Not only was everything clean, but it also smelt clean too! ||||Paul had recommended us to the butchers in town to do some sausage making. The kids loved it! At first they turned their noses up, but once doing it, was so much fun. The town was around 6 minutes drive from the camp, so perfect! ||||We were unable to light the fire pit, and mentioned to Paul that we were terrible at it, so in the evening he had prepared everything for us, and low and behold we had fire. ||||I can't believe how kind the staff are at oak Lodge. The bend over backwards to keep guests happy. Nothing is too much bother and they do everything with a friendly conversation and smile. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough.||If you want to relax, and enjoy your family with no distractions, this is the place for you. ||On our journey home the 16 year olds said they didn't want to come home. That in itself is the biggest compliment. ||||Thank you so much to all the team at oak lodge! ||You are all simply wonderful. We 100% would recommend anyone to go here. ||Remember though it is glamorous camping, so you still have to make your own beds and teas and coffees etc. ||I've not done glamping before, but if this is the standard. I'd happily do it again! ||Lots of happy faces all round. Thanks you!!! More...

Thank you Andrew for accomodating our requests and Paul who kindly answered our queries before we arrived. This is a perfect way to have an upgraded camping experience! The most important part of our break was to have time as a family along with our friends! This is a retreat and we appreciated the experience, facilities and the lack of gadets! For our teenagers with recent memories of their DofE, this was luxurious! For us adults looking for a compromise between 'full on camping' (put up own tents, sleeping bags etc....) and 'Centreparcs', Oak Lodge was the answer!|The windy, rainy and misty weather added to the fun! Tents had lots of room, heating kept everything toastie and we had everything we needed to have a bbq a couple of times! The fire pit, sauna, hot tub and very clean shower facilities were a bonus! Made wonderful memories during our stay! Thank you Oak Lodge Retreat. More...

My husband, son and I stayed for 2 nights. We had a lovely time. My husband is a city type and needed convincing. Thanks to our stay at Oak Lodge Retreat he has now agreed to go camping again next year as long as it is as thoughtful and well provided for as Oak Lodge Retreat. ||||The tent was large with thoughtful touches. One double bed and two singles with good quality bedding and cushions provided for, all white and clean. There were also places to hang clothes, boxes and plenty of room for bags. Outside was a great private bbq with everything needed to cook. We cooked every night and enjoyed our meal sat at our own private table and chairs right outside the tent. ||||My son had a ball. He made friends with the other children. They played football, badminton and table tennis, all provided for at Oak Lodge Retreat. They also explored the little forest area complete with hammocks. It also felt very safe. There are only 10 tents so it is not too hectic. It is a pleasant retreat from city life for us. The quiet and peace was wonderful. ||||Paul was great. Very pleasant and offered us great tips for local places to visit and recommended a great local butcher with locally provided meat. ||||We had a great time and will be trying to persuade more friends to join us next time. Just back from a wonderful 2 nights at Oak Lodge. Lovely clean and spacious tent with super comfy beds and lovely bedding. Glad we ordered the heater it heated us up very quickly! Everything you need is there to enjoy BBQ cooking in your own area. Provided with great picnic hamper, plastic glasses, cutlery, cups, cooking utensils. Lovely fire pit area to sit around of an evening. Went with my husband and 2 children, 12 and 7 and it was perfect for what we wanted - spending time as a family. We spent a day in Southwold and we spent our time at the retreat playing board games and cards that we brought with us as well as exploring the woods. There isn’t much to do here but we didn’t expect there to be. It’s the perfect place to just be a family and enjoy time together. Sitting around the fire looking at the stars and being away from the hustle of busy life. Showers and toilets so clean! We didn’t use the hot tub or sauna as children under 16 not allowed but others that were there and used it said it was lovely. Paul was super friendly and helpful - his family are building a great business. Great base to explore a lovely part of the UK. More...

We stayed here for 2 nights before heading off to Devon for a week to give my partners kids a taste of camping as they’d never camped before. The tents are huge with a double and 2 single beds and everything you need for your stay including tea/coffee and even towels. There’s a gas bbq outside with a little kitchenette area which is under cover just in case it rained (and it did!) and you can store your perishables in the fridge and charge your phone in the small hut by reception where there is also a couple of vending machines for snacks and drinks. The kids loved their first taste of camping, enjoying being outside and particularly loved the small wooded area where they built a den and chilled on the hammocks. The shower blocks were lovely, they were like your own little bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. The owner was very helpful and friendly and would pop along to see if everything was ok, but generally would leave you to it, but was always on hand if a problem arose. I would definitely recommend coming here if you like camping but need your home comforts, spotlessly clean, well maintained and very peaceful. More...

The tent was a great size for a family of 4, comfortable beds, very clean, and well equipped. Gas BBQ was great - very clean, and came with a kettle and frying pan etc. The toilet and shower facilities were great - I have never camped before, or stayed anywhere with shared facilities and was a little apprehensive before we arrived but they were spotless - cleaned thoroughly every day. Steve's Shack did the "best ever pancakes" according to my children and all of the staff were so friendly.
