Wow! Jose and his crew just finished landscaping my front yard and it looks amazing! They checked my irrigation system, trimmed all of my bushes, built a small stone retaining wall, planted lots of new plants, and added new bark and gravel. When looking for a new gardener after having my 2 guys for 10 years I came across this lovely young lady. Well all I can say is " wow ", not only was the price very reasonable, Helen and her colleagues did an amazing job of re landscaping my extensive garden. 8 visits later over 8 weeks, they not only kept my grass green in this extremely hot weather. JDH built a low 70 foot long retaining wall around our pool.  The wall was built with Allan Block / Calstone to replace an old wood retaining wall.  Jose hit every point of our specifications, returned calls promptly, and responded to emails the same day.  His bid for the job was priced lower  than others and was more complete.  He provided samples of our chosen material on site to confirm our selection and its appearance in the landscape.  He was on the job when needed to direct his men, who were also experienced in their work.  The work occurred over a rainy period causing a few lost days, but picked up without delay.  The work started on schedule, and was completed in a timely manner.  Jose and his men offered several suggestions during the work that proved to be beneficial.  Each day and at the conclusion of the work, site cleanup kept the area in good shape.  The final cleanup exceeded the boundaries of the job. Jose and his crew did an amazing job with our back yard transformation.  We had used his services in the past for irrigation I and remembered what a fantastic job he did, so I didn't hesitate to call on him again. His crew is extremely competent, clean, efficient and very courteous.  We had him put in  additional irrigation, new plants, leveling/grading of the yard as well as adding  gravel, flagstone and other hardscape.  I appreciated that Jose gave us a very itemized and accurate quote and made sure the job was done to our complete satisfaction.  He made some great recommendations when we were picking plants.  JDH did a wonderful job and we couldn't be happier.  I would recommend JDH Garden Services for any garden job. We just used JDH Garden Services again, this time for a full replanting of our front and back yard.  We are so pleased with the end result!  Jose and his team were extremely helpful and polite.  Jose had some great ideas for how to implement our vision, and he brought some new ideas to us that we hadn't thought of.  We noticed his team put forth extra effort in certain areas to patch up some broken stones that had come loose, which was really appreciated.  They were quick and efficient and always did a good job cleaning up at the end of each day.  We are so happy with our new yard! We've moved several times over the last twenty years and have therefore employed a number of different landscaping service and gardeners and I have to say that Jose and his team at JDH are easily the very best. We initially hired them to install an entirely new lawn. We got bids from four vendors and Jose stood out as the most professional and thorough of all of them. They finished the job earlier than expected and the team was outstanding. Hard-working, on time, detail oriented and extremely thorough about cleaning up at the end of every day. We then hired them for weekly service. They showed up exactly on time every week and were always extremely professional and extremely thorough. Afterwards, every walkway and deck was always left without a blade of grass. He has a very well trained and skilled crew who work efficiently and are very respectful. JDH was recommended to me by a co-worker and I have to say they exceeded our expectations. We used Jose and his team to remove two large dead pines in our back yard and could not have had a better experience. JDH was great with scheduling and called us before Jose arrived to our house to take a look and give us an estimate. The proposal was priced well and they were very efficient in getting that information to us. They also informed us that permits would be needed to remove the trees and worked that into the estimate and handled it with the City of San Carlos, which my wife and I greatly appreciated as we did not need to do anything to get the permits on our end. In terms of the actual job, we could not be happier. The team was very efficient, professional and did a great job. They removed 2 large trees in our backyard with difficult access and on a hill in just three days! In addition, they cleaned up after themselves and left the place spotless at the end of the job. They were considerate of our time, place and our neighbors. They emailed and called in advance to let us know when the team was arriving and kept us in the loop the entire time. My husband and I love to work in the yard but finally had to admit that we weren't finding the time and it was in disarray. After bad experiences in the past with gardeners not using discretion in the weeding, trimming, etc, and losing some plants we cared about, we were nervous to try again. Jose walked with us through the yard and listened to our ideas but also expressed his strong knowledge, providing details on how to better care for what we had already (citrus, fruit trees, various bushes, flowers, etc). He also had suggestions on what to add, move, or remove that would be consistent with our vision. He was patient as we wrote every "please do this" and "please don't do that" into the contract.In the end we hired Jose and his team to do a major clean up and check the sprinkling system; to select and purchase several plants and wood chips; to get everything in the ground; and to provide ongoing maintenance. We are so pleased with the plants he selected, how the yard looks, and how well he continues to communicate about extra available ad-hoc services. Jose and the team have just fixed a retainer wall on my property in Emerald Hills.  I believe JDH did the job quite well.  I would call them up for another project with no hesitation .A few things to be desired.  They had to move a schedule a bit, since they had some issues with other project they were handling simultaneously.  However, I can understand this kind of change on their line of work.  Things happen as they work through their project.Actually while they were working on the retainer wall, they have found one of wood beams is rotten.  They needed a few more hours to replace it.  It would have been really nice, if they have given me a range of cost (likely cost to at most cost), instead of just a dollar amount.However, those are a hard issue to avoid completely.  Again, they did a wonderful job and I am pretty happy with the outcome.  And, it was a stress free project thanks to Jose's excellent communication skill. We contacted Jose because we were impressed with his positive reviews. We needed to remove our old front lawn and replace it with drought resistant plants and schrubs. Jose came to our house at the agreed time and gave us suggestions to best transform the curb appeal of our home. We really appreciated him meeting us at a local nursery to educate us on different plant options that would work well for our project. We received his written proposal a few days later and found his prices more than fair. We took a leap of faith and allowed him to come up with a great design. Jose is a rare find.  He and his crew just replanted and cleaned up both our front and back gardens.  "Cleaned up", however, doesn't even begin to cover the amount of work, thought, planning and execution it took to complete our job.  Every inch of hard, compacted soil in our back garden had to be turned, soil added, amendments added and old plantings cleared out.  Our irrigation system had to be replaced.  Palms and tree ferns had to be removed.  Our 30-foot palm had to be trimmed.  Our front lawn was removed and stone spread to replace it.  But that was only the beginning.  We'd had water-intensive landscaping and needed to replant with less demanding shrubs and ground covers.  We had no idea what kind of plants we wanted and needed to replace the old growth.  Now here's where Jose really showed his "stuff"!  He knows his plants and their requirements like the back of his hand.  He listened to what we liked and didn't like and came back with incredibly good suggestions and ideas. He took us to his favorite nursery and picked out our plantings with us. He turned a barren area outside our bedroom into a flagstone "patio" with a potted tree, climbing vines and other small plantings.  He put in native grasses along with attractive rock/gravel in our front garden.  He replanted a tough area around our koi pond.  He and his crew re-potted a large number of plants on our side patio and put in a drip system so that we no longer have to think about hand watering them.  I can't really begin to tell you the amount of work that was done over a two-week period.  Jose's men were hard-working, organized, meticulous and clearly knew what needed to be done and how to do it.  They were courteous and caring with our older dog and puppy.  There was no "lag time" from the start of our project to the completion of it.  The work was done efficiently and thoroughly.Finally, Jose is a great communicator.  He is very hands-on and promptly responded to our questions and requests via email, since that was easier for us due to our work schedule and his.  His office staff is great.  Jose was running 10 minutes late to meet with us one day, and the office called to let us know about the delay.  Imagine that!We could not be happier with the results of Jose's work and all our interactions with him and his crew.  We are also using him to do the regular maintenance. Jose's team restructured and replanted our complete backyard. What started out as a huge mess with old garden beds, random terraces and old concrete retaining walls, became a beautifully landscaped property that fulfills our kids' need for lawn space, my husband's love for fruit trees, and allows me to still grow plenty of vegetables as well. Our job was smaller than most of the others mentioned here but Jose made us feel like it was his top priority. We moved to a townhouse with a small backyard a few months ago and decided to replace a few trees. I recently worked with Jose on building a long set of stairs in the hillside backyard of my new home.  I had a fixed budget and Jose worked with me on what he could do for my budget.  His communication is top-notch,  both by phone and email.   The project turned out beautifully, even better than I had pictured in my head. Jose's crew are skilled and worked very hard.  They were polite and respectful the entire time, and cleaned up each day before they went home.  I give JDH Garden Services my full endorsement.  If you are looking for regular gardening services, or landscaping projects of any size JDH will impress you. We contacted Jose and meet with him to discuss our needs.  He had good ideas and recommendations.  Jose was easy to work with and did a great job. His price was fair and he started work within a couple of weeks.  A week earlier than he had originally estimated.  We wanted to remove our dead lawn and old irrigation.  Jose sent me a list of plants that should work well and I let him know my preferences.  I liked most everything and he brought a few things that were not on the list that look great.  He even saved one of the few plants I had been able to keep alive and replanted with the others.  There was lots of clean up of overgrowth which now looks great and as if it was part of the whole landscaping plan.  We now have a drip irrigation system going and Jose even put a drip on my container on the front porch so I don't have to think about watering anything.  This was a small detail and nice touch.Our project was completed within a few weeks and I am very happy with the results.  I'm pretty easy going about where things were placed, but Jose was patient with the few changes I wanted and I could tell if I had been more picky he would have been very accommodating.  I'd say the only downside was that sometimes email communications were not always super quick, but I wanted someone to landscape my front yard, not be a pen pal.I would recommend JDH Garden Services. I can't say enough about Jose and his guys, except, hire them :). You won't be sorry.The quote was very fair, and only changed with added requests that I made. First, what I look for is dependability (there's nothing worse than wondering if someone is going to show up). From day one, Jose's team arrived on time, or sometimes a little early to start working on our yard. The guys were friendly, very hardworking (8 hour+ days with very little break time), and left the work area clean and tidy every day when they left.They leveled 800 sq ft of yard, laying tons of base rock, sand, and 400 sq ft of pavers, plus 3 tons stones, assembled an 8x15 shed, and ran drainage and electrical pipe underneath. They also reconfigured our irrigation system. All this in under two weeks and always with a smile :).I would definitely recommend you contact Jose for a quote. I will for any other work I need done. My husband and I just moved into our house and we wanted to totally redo our front yard, which included putting in grass.  I found JDH Gardening Services on Yelp and was impressed with the great reviews .  Jose Henriquez and his team came by to give us an estimate and upon meeting Jose, we knew that he "knew his stuff".  He was very knowledgeable of the right sod to put down and what plants/trees/shrubs worked best for which area of the yard.  He gave us some great suggestions to our proposed "ask".  His team came out to start the job.  My husband wanted to do flagstone in the front entrance, but I wasn't 100% with it.  So, mid-job, I asked Jose if we could just use bigger pavers than what we had in this other area.  I picked out the bigger pavers, but then my husband said "well, why don't we just continue using the same size pavers we currently have and just hope that Jose can find the same color match."  Well......HE DID.  Jose found the perfect match and then the job continued as planned. So, even with my multiple changes in the plan, Jose graciously worked with me on it and told me that "he would rather do what I like and do it right, than for me to not like the end result."  The end result is a BEAUTIFUL front yard that I love to wake up to.  My husband and I were very impressed with the level of professionalism, knowledge and kindness Jose and his team displayed.  They did a lot of work, a GREAT job and it was reasonably and fairly priced.   We were only going to have Jose and team do the front yard landscaping.  But, have now decided to have them continue maintenance, as the yard is so nice now and we don't want to mess it up.  :-) Net-net, If you need any type of landscaping or lawn maintenance... call JDH!!!  Jose is your guy for the job!!  Thank you Jose!! Late this summer I employed JDH Garden Services for the third time within the past five years.  Once again, Jose Henriquez's crew did a fantastic job for me! Jose is very professional, friendly, and responsive. Jose prepared a written list of services with a cost estimate, which I then modified (after thinking about what really needed to be done). He responded in a timely manner with a new contract and estimate, and we set up a job start date which worked for both of us.   This was a 3-full-days job, 2 men on the first day, then 3 or 4 men on days 2 and 3. I have about 7 separate garden areas that were in need of a detailed clean-up, bend-a-boards and boarders needed to be added to several areas, parts of the irrigation system needed modification, and finally every area with plantings, trees, shurbs, etc. needed a new deep mulch layer.The crew was great to work with, followed my instructions and were professional, careful, and meticulous in their work.  When I altered a few tasks as we went along, they cheerfullly and politely made the changes for me. This was hard, hard work, and I greatly appreciate what they did for me. Jose was very professional at every opportunity, from scheduling a time to scope the job, drafting the initial quote and eventually the final invoice. He had a well qualified team working the project who communicated at just the right level to make for a successful project.No surprises, no breakage, and when everything was completed, his team cleaned up the site and verified everything was in perfect working order before they left. We hired Jose to completely re-landscape our front and back patios. Jose and his team were fantastic to deal with, friendly, professional, and hard working, even on some of the hottest days of the year. The project involved tree and plant removal, adding irrigation with timers, flattening ground and covering with pavers, installing a section of artificial grass, planting a variety of vegetation, and other things. And during the job, they worked around a somewhat interfering fence installation without complaint. We are completely thrilled with the end results and have received many compliments from neighbors and visitors. Jose was responsive to all our questions and changes of plans and clearly explained things along the way. Really the only area for improvement is in the final invoicing where we only got one small receipt for some material. Don't get me wrong, there was absolutely no reason to question any charges. Estimates and costs were checked beforehand and whenever changes were discussed, but I think many customers expect to see copies of all receipts with a complete breakdown of costs.We will continue to have Jose periodically maintain our plants and irrigation.Very highly recommended!
