We have lived in an old pit house for 15 years and suffered with condensation and associated mould for 13 of those years until we had a direct ventilation box fitted in our loft. We'd tried a dehumidifier and it was a complete waste of time, even though it did collect masses of moisture. I cannot tell you the difference this Environvent made. We considered installing a PIV system several years ago soon after we moved in and decided against because of the cost. Having now had Envirovent install a system, we wish we gone ahead before. The impact was immediate. The Envirovent system is not the cheapest but they are the only business we could find to offer a guarantee of success. Given that we were not totally convinced the system would be 100% effective, the guarantee was important. Our system comprises the loft based PIV fan and inline ceiling extractor fan in the kitchen. A bathroom extractor fan was already in place. Installation in my 3 bed bungalow was quick and straightforward, clean and tidy. The system is almost silent and the kitchen fan has yet to activate boost mode. Within a few hours of installation residual window condensation had disappeared, damp bedroom window reveals dried out and the humidity level dropped to the low 50s from the upper 60s. Seeing was believing! Even one of the kitchen base cupboards that was always wet inside is now dry. In the couple of weeks since installation, there has been no mould regrowth which previously we would have had to treat regularly. An unexpected result has also been the improved circulation around the house of heat from radiators, so that all the house is now the same temperature. We have been able to drop the thermostat 1 degree to achive the same comfort level. It's too early yet to comment on running costs but on balance, we consider the initial cost is more than offset by the improved living environment and the saving on deteriorartion of the building fabric. After trying and failing to get rid of the damp and condensation in our house, we finally came across Envirovent. If only we had spoken to them sooner! The change was amazing and a wonderful surprise, as we were originally a bit doubtful about their claims for something that appeared so simple. Good News is the Mr Venty system works more or less immediately and you will see a reduction in condensation, in our case the successful eradication of mould in a north facing bedroom wall and the wardrobes against it. The less than good news is you have you pay quite a lot of money to secure a deal with the company and I found their product costs high albeit their installation costs seemed OK. As they appear to be the only company offering a money back guarantee and 7 year warranty on parts and labour for domestic ventilation systems then you may consider paying extra will be worth it in the long run. I had a vent fitted earlier in the year and so far its been fantastic. Fresh air regularly pumped through the house without making the house cold. Also the Envirovent saleperson/technician was excellent. He really is a technician more than a sales person. He did all the damp readings and was very honest stating in fact that the house was not too bad rather than making out it was imperative we had a vent. I am glad we went ahead with one though as I can definitely tell the difference. What I would say is that if you are not sure if you need one or not, if you are not sure how bad your damp/condensation problem is, give them a call because they will analyze all that for you and give you an honest verdict, then show you the equipment so you have all the info to make a decision. I am a fan of your fan and cannot fault it so far. Bought a 'Filterless Fan', which clears my bathroom of steam from a VERY steamy shower in less than 5mins, and the clip off blade is a brilliant idea.
